I had been having Jen widen it as it was too narrow before, and now it's all one length, which is nice. Got in, got cut, got out. Went to the house to go shower and get all the little hairs off, and for the first time in months, put some product in my hair. So, I needed to stop and get some smokes for outside things, and I stop at the gas station right across the street. The girls working say something to the effect of "I love your hair, my son would love to have a cut like that". So, I reply "thanks, I just got it cut", and they are like "ohhh, fresh!" and I say, "yep, right across the street" and point to your place. Then they discuss wanting to go watch duck dynasty... for some reason.

I'm the sort of person that typically goes to a discount chain hair salon for his haircut: Borics,…read moreSupercuts, cost cutters, etc. I decided to give this local shop a try this time, and I'm not disappointed. The stylists that own and operate this place used to work at the Boric's in Urbana (next to the county market), and they are pretty good at what they do. I was surprised to see them in this place, since I knew they are both good at what they do. The difference, of course, is that here they don't have to pay the franchise fee, which could be as high as 60%! The result was that my stylist (Jenny, which I highly recommend her work) took her time and paid lots of attention to what she was doing to my hair, while I always felt rushed when going to Borics, super cuts, etc. with lots of machine cutting. They make a point to keep their prices the same as national chains, so an adult haircut is $13, which is very reasonable. They run coupons in local magazines and ads, and Jenny told me that they would even accept competitor coupons as long as it brings them business. One small point: It's better if you call and make an appointment. You can walk in of-course, but they give preference to people with appointments. I'll call in next time before I go there.

Asked for basic easy-to-manage trim with long layers. My hair looks WAYYY worse after getting cut by her! I need to get another cut elsewhere now. She said she was a recent graduate from the Rod Sickler school. I should have walked when she started the consultation by talking about how she couldn't find her stool that she needed to cut my hair... She cut a random really short piece off the TOP of my head. So now I have shoulder length hair with a Little Rascals, Alfalfa piece flailing helplessly about off the TOP of my head 5 inches shorter than the rest of my hair. Guess this is why she needed her STOOL? She was new and didn't know what she was doing. She stated multiple times that something could not be done, which even I can do.... Examples: drying my hair without it frizzing? So I left with wet hair... did this so I wouldn't immediately see her mistakes? She argued that I didn't need shaping around the face and that it couldn't be done. Oh yea.... She said negative things about previous customers too.

Shelby really knows her stuff, she gave me some great hair advice. Also she gave me the choice of cutting my hair dry or getting it washed and cut. First, I was charged $35 for a haircut that would have cost $11 at the barber school. Not embarrassing, but not good either. Second, they DO NOT TAKE CREDIT CARDS and since I did not have this much cash, I was asked to Zelle the money to the stylist and caption it so it appears to not be a payment. What a way to avoid paying taxes.
