As a new puppy owner, the dog park can be a really intimidating experience. What if my dog bites…read moresomeone? What if my dog gets bitten? There is a lot of anxiety about how the dogs will react to one another when you've never had your dog in that situation. That being said, I have only had great experiences here, with not only dogs but also their owners! Living in Polish Hill, this is a nice stroll away from home and a great opportunity to socialize my puppy. The park has two separate fenced in areas so you can gauge which group your dog will be better suited. I usually start my little guy off in the less crowded area and then move over with the big dogs if I think he can handle it. Hanging around with different people at dog parks has made me love the culture that surrounds them. You can really feel the love that people have for their dogs. People who are willing to put the effort into taking their dogs to a dog park seem to see a real importance of exposing your dog to other dogs---teaching them how to play, to resolve conflict and also to keep them exercised! My puppy gets easily intimidated and sometimes growls and snarls at dogs that get right up in his face, especially other puppies. All of the other owners that I've met here have been so friendly, respectful, helpful and loving to my puppy. It creates a level of comfort that I wasn't sure I'd ever have within the chaos of dogs running around chasing each other. The only thing complaint I have is that the park isn't very well marked, so if it's your first time going, it might be difficult to find it--especially when driving. There is a parking lot and once you make it there, head to the left and you'll find a trail that will lead you right to the park. Come play with me and Otto!

This is a little hard to get to. You have to drive all the way down to the end of 38th street. The…read moreentrance way(which is a stretch of dirt over a train track) is between Three Rivers Packaging and Edward Marc Chocolatier. Apparently, you can park in that area. The park is all dirt and there is water there for your dogs and some benches to sit on. This is not a place to go in the rain as it will get muddy or at night as it would be a prime place for crime.

Hound Haus - East Liberty's New All-Day Hangout for You and Your Pup…read moreJust opened in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood, Hound Haus is a creative new venue that combines a coffee shop, bar, event space, and off-leash dog park--all under one roof. Whether you're looking to get work done with a coffee, wind down with a beer, or let your pup burn off some energy, this is the spot. I stopped in and tried their maple vanilla latte, which was super cozy and comforting--perfectly balanced and not too sweet. I also had a warm muffin that was absolutely delightful. The drinks are crafted with Commonplace Coffee, and there's a rotating selection of prepackaged sandwiches, salads, and baked goods through Catapult Culinary available all day. The space itself is bright, modern, and immaculately clean. You can sit inside or out on the dog-friendly patio, where pups can roam while you relax. Dogs do need to be registered at the front check-in station and must be vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and at least 4 months old. Hound Haus offers daily, monthly, and annual passes--but you don't need to bring a dog to enjoy the vibe. It's a welcoming place for anyone to sip, snack, and socialize (furry friends optional). The owner is incredibly friendly and clearly passionate about creating a space that's both functional and fun. Whether you're a dog owner or just a dog lover, Hound Haus is worth a visit. Open Tuesday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

I was fortunate and privileged to grow up with Frick as my backyard and walked all over the place before graduating to riding mountain bikes on the trails when the sport was in its infancy. Later, I ran high school cross-country races in Schenley and trained in Frick Park. Nowadays, we enjoy the flowers, wildlife, and groomed and maintained trails. I never appreciated how unique, rare, and amazing the parks are until I moved away and it's so great to see them treated as the unique assets they truly are.

I keep coming back and exploring different paths, only to realize there's always more to discover. It's one of those places where you can return again and again and still find something new, which makes it feel really special to me. The way the trails connect is one of my favorite things. Nine Mile Run flows into Deer Creek, which then connects into Tranquil Trail, creating an easy, continuous experience through the park. And thats just one corner of the park. While bathrooms are not abundant, you will occasionally find a porta potty, and there is often trash cans and benches toward the entrances and parking lots of the trail as well. Overall it's just a wonderful place to spend a sunny afternoon, and I really hope spaces like this continue to be preserved as an important part of Pittsburgh's identity and history.

A really nice playground. The park is also beautifully landscaped. It seems to perpetually be in bloom from early spring through the fall. Voila, Highland Park saved the day. The thing that attracted me most was the playground that featured plenty of shade as well as playscapes that worked for various ages including babies with a soft floor. I also want to highlight that this park features hiking trails and a great view overlooking downtown Pittsburgh. It's tucked into a historic neighborhood so the drive to the park was also pleasant. If I lived in the area, I could see myself frequenting this park. Overall a wonderful experience and we will definitely visit the next time we are in Pittsburgh!

From my experience it's a decent sized park, it's just enough to walk around and get some steps in after a few laps. Lots of shrubbery and logs riddled around the park. If you need to use the restroom they have portapotties (not a huge fan of those). There is a gazebo and pond surrounded by the track. Apparently there's a lot of events they hold here, but I'm always here when it rains so. I didn't get to experience that. Parking is free, they have plenty. TL;DR Free parking. Catch Pokemon here.
