OMPark...there is so much to do at South Park. Another one of those places I have spent my life at with friends and boyfriends over the years as well as family. Amazing playground area. It's big with lots to do and was a favorite for my daughter as a toddler. There's the wave pool which is great on a hot summer day. BMX trails, remember those fondly with boyfriends. Hiking, biking and walking trails, horses and stables. Loads and loads of picnic and wooded areas for more hiking. Ponds, and BUFFALO...did I mention the buffalo? Amazing. Not to mention plenty of open land (once the fairgrounds) for festivals and concerts, have seen several bands. Lots and lots of beautiful flowers and vegetation, and wildlife. Literally something for everyone here. read more

This park is great! Pretty much has everything that you can think of. I went to the game preserve today and really enjoyed it. I saw the buffalo along with ducks, geese, and turtles. It's the perfect spot to take your little ones to check everything out. They also have a nearby playground for the kids. Lastly if you get the chance check out the farmers market on Tuesdays by the ice skating rink. Highly recommend! read more

It's been awhile since I've been here but there is a herd of buffalo you can just go and get close to. It's pretty cool. They also have a swimming pool that's ok. It's not as nice as the North Park pool but that is hard to beat. read more

What a perfect way to spend time on a Saturday morning! South Park is an amazing place to enjoy the weather and burn some calories. The park offers many amenities from a track to a roller rink to many pieces of exercise equipment. They recently installed solar powered lights to illuminate the 2 mile strip of paved trail along Corrigan Drive. There are many wide trails to encounter wildlife and get lost in the majesty of the Western Pennsylvania landscape. The walking/running trail is fairly flat and well maintained. Growing up I trained for many 5k races using the rolling hills of South Park. read more

South Park wave pool! Now we love the pool but the refreshment counter needs some help. All we wanted was a couple of soft pretzels. It took 35 minutes. When my wife asked about them the girl said would take 5 minutes. 25 minutes later and after a bunch of customers got their food before us. The counter is run by high school people that I really don't think care all that much. How hard is it to bake pretzels. read more

Came here to hunt Pokemon with my friend. It has a nice path to circle around. From my experience it's a decent sized park, it's just enough to walk around and get some steps in after a few laps. Lots of shrubbery and logs riddled around the park. If you need to use the restroom they have portapotties (not a huge fan of those). There is a gazebo and pond surrounded by the track. Apparently there's a lot of events they hold here, but I'm always here when it rains so. I didn't get to experience that. Parking is free, they have plenty. TL;DR Free parking. Catch Pokemon here. What's Schenley Park? Huh? I kid. A ladyfriend and I cruised through here today. It always seems to be a Sunday whenever I come to South Park, and I always forget how much they have here and how easy it is to get lost. And yes, it's the most pleasant labyrinth to get lost in. They even have concerts here. Again, it's easy to forget. But being I don't hike, play miniature golf, ride a BMX bike, or fly RMC planes, when I do come here, I just like to ride about the park, look around, find a pavilion, and just hang, enjoying the serenity of nature and some companionship on a spring or summer day. Speaking of which, dogs love this park! Bring yer furry buddy out here and watch him/her run like a jackrabbit. Note: The park closes at midnight. So no *ahem* parkin' afterhours. Ok? OK? Seriously. My 300th review is goes to the location of the most fun event i've ever experience--- slide the city! My best friend and i were patiently waiting for tickets to go on sale. We ordered them and then 20 hours later the event was sold out. from all of the other pics online, it seemed that slide the city would be actually in the city but im assuming due to the t. swift concert & arts festival the same day, it would have caused chaos. Hopwever, the slopes at south park worked probably better than a crowded city would have. Going down a 1,000 slip & slide was the time of my life. I was all smiles and giggles the entire (what felt like) 2 minutes. But this review is about the park!! I felt this park was very nice. We rode by plenty of shelters for parties, an indoor shelter, a spring with a fountain (that happened to have a wedding going on at the time- how pretty), plenty of playgrounds, bike trails ect. There were many people having fun at the park that werent part of the 5,000 people at Slide The City, I will head back to South Park to take a closer look at what all this park has to offer. read more

South Park is a great park for all. It has tons to explore and is a nice slice of the outdoors to the surrounding communites. I remember going there as a child to the playground and having a blast. I go there now to walk and take my dog to the dog park. Talk about being safe, I feel very comfortable walking on Corrigan at night. If you don't want to walk Corrigan, there are various trails throughout the park and there also is a track. They also have a little pond that is nice to walk around and watch to see wildlife, especially if you have little children. Just yesterday we saw a massive turtle on a rock. Right off of Corrigan there is a massive fenced in dog park! This is the best dog park I have been to by far. It is all grass with some wood chips, plenty of trees and shrubbery, a water fountain and bowls for the water. There is so much room for your dog to run around, play, and explore. They also have a smaller park for the small dogs. Everyone that is out is always really nice and watches their dog. Also check out South Park for events and free concerts, they always have something going on for entertainment. I believe over a year ago they had a free concert with David Cassidy. South Park also has nice pavillions if you are looking to host a picnic or family reunion. read more

The Cactus Blossom Brothers - July 29, 2016 If you are going to the South Park Amphitheater for the music, be warned. The residents of South Park treat this free summer concert series as their own private block party. They bring their strollers, dogs, and coolers and share craft beers, play frisbee, and swap guacamole recipes with little regard to the music being played on the stage. The music is simply background music to their end of the week social gathering. I suggest the county charge a minimal fee ($5-$10) to weed out the residential loiters. read more

My most recent visit to South Park was a trip to the ice rink with my 6 year old nephew. We had the rink to ourselves. The ice was a bit slushy, but we had a fantastic time! The admission and skate rentals are very reasonably priced. There are lockers to rent, benches to sit on and a little concession stand. Skating lessons are offered for a reasonable price as well. I've enjoyed many visits to the park including the free summer concert series, swimming in the pool and attending events at the rented cabins. This is a wonderful community resource and I plan to keep coming back! read more

There's a lot I can say for the neighborhood I grew up in. South Park has undergone many changes since my childhood. Once home of the Allegheny County Fair, the fairground still exists and is in the process of transformation. It has a stable for horseback riding as well as pony rides for children, the buffalo trail is still there, along with real buffalo! Beware they do bite if you get too close to them. They have a state of the art wave pool. In the place that once stood two of the original pools they have bike carts, miniature golf and a small pool. The ice skating rink to my knowledge still stands directly opposite it from the vast parking lot. There are many groves for picnicking. Groves can be rented for groups with the Township's permission. The Oliver Miller Homestead is located on Stone Manse drive and offers activities and tours on Suns depending upon what is going on. It is an historic landmark. There is an area designated for BMX and normally one weekend out of the year folks camp out here for a special weekend. There are plenty of walking trails or running if that is your bag along with several playgrounds for children. Part of the Montour trail runs through the park. They also have bike trails, tennis courts and two golf courses. One course is only 9 holes complete. The other is a full 18 hole. They also have baseball and softball fields, a soccer field as well as concession stands. They even have a large park for dogs! The famed "Sunny Slopes" area located off of Brownsville Road is one of the best sled riding hills for kids in the winter. it was used this summer for a water event called "slide the city." The pavilion offers free concerts over the summer. The high school and elementary center were built some time ago but shows how far the township has come to keep up with modern times. Although not quite as big as North Park, South Park has something for everyone and if you are a history buff, it was once called Snowden Twp. Much has changed since I was small but it is still a great place to take the family if you are in the area. read more

Boy did we have a great day hiking! Or should I say "Girl did we have a great day hiking". My girlfriends, my cousin Cindy, and I had a day's hiking at South Park. We are all avid hikers and we fully intended it to be females only. Sorry guys, but no "Y" chromosomes were allowed. As I noted in my previous review, South Park is one of several large county parks in the Pittsburgh Area. The others include Boyce Park and Settler's Cabin Park. South Park has several miles of trails for every skill level of hiker. They have what are called "Blazed Trails". Blazes are paint marks on a tree next to the trail. You follow the the blazes to follow the trail. A double blaze indicates a trail intersection and turn or a sudden turn. It can also indicate some possible point of confusion that requires your attention. When you see a double blaze, stop and look for the next blaze. I highly recommend you bring a trail map with you! If you've ever had an orienteering course, it'll definitely come in handy! Maryann, Sherry, Marla, Lisa, and I met up with Cindy at the start of the Corrigan Walkway at the corner of Baptist Road and Corrigan Drive. We then linked up with the Bison Ridge Trail, which is about 6 miles long. We also took the Fairgrounds Trail, which is another 2 miles or so in length. All in all we hiked well over 10 miles that day, including about 1 mile to and from the "T" station. One note, when taking the "T", be sure to use the Lytle Road Station. Although the South Park Road and Mesta Street stops are geographically closer, Lytle has paved sidewalks. read more

Dog park = wonderful afternoon with my dog (my child). There aren't all that many places where you can let your dog just run wild, so whenever we get a chance to visit, it's always a fun time. The rest of the park is beautiful as well. It's speckled with running/walking trails, a small pond, and plenty of places to picnic or just lay out. It's prettier than Schenley and there is always a lot to do here. During Halloween, there is a really good Haunted house that is done very professionally. Check it out! read more

I spent many, many summers biking, rollerskating, running and going for family drives through the park! You can go up on the hill to see the buffalo, swing by the Oliver Miller Homestead on Sundays for reenactments, see the stables, go ice skating in the winter, have parties in the many picnic areas that you can reserve for graduation parties, etc... some even have fireplaces if you want to do something in the winter. People mountain bike and ride their horses through the trails, kids go on hikes with their families.. there is an abundance of tennis courts, soccer fields, swimming pools, the ever-important wave pool and tons and tons and tons of different festivals year-round. South Park is a really great area. read more

I've been to this park a few times now to give a fair review. Now I'm always coming here to ride my bike or skateboard. But I gotta say that parking here is a breeze. The lark it's self is huge so anywhere you wanna go and park there's always room. There's a great paved trail section around the park. It's separate from the runners/walkers/baby pushers. So you don't really have to ever worry about anyone in your way. There's aton of stuff to do here for everyone in season. They have a ice rink, skate park, bmx track, hiking trails, biking trails, mutable parks for the kids, a duck pond with buffalo, horse area for the police. Plus lots more. I'm coming here mostly for the bike trails and I gotta say I've covered a lot of trails and there's still more I have yet to ride. There's no markings really just a splat of paint on a few trees so it's so easy to get lost. I use the app all trails and they have this park mapped out perfectly. I also use Strava and they pick up perfect out here! I just wish that the trails had signs but that's not a big deal. The trails range from easy to hard and sneak up on you. I love the downhill parts. Another thing to mention that sucks is there's no water bottle fill up areas so I kept having to ride to get go when I was out of water. I also wish people who where riding there horses would make sure they clean up the poop from the trail. Overall I'll continue to come here and learn all the trails cause I have a blast. read more

When I was younger this was THE park to go to. On a visit home to Pgh I decided to share this memory with my own kids. The place is in need of a little love and attention to bring it up with the times. The playground equipment was old and faded, and the parking lot (as most in Pittsburgh) was in a state of disrepair. Also, the proximity of the playground to the busy road with no fence made me a little uneasy and extra watchful. this being said, my kids totally still enjoyed themselves. My daughter's favorite part was unrelated to the park equipment but native to the area itself- she loved rolling down the hills. I'd go here if I lived close but wouldn't go out of my way. read more

CM and I visited South Park on Sat. to take advantage of the beautiful spring weather. Given our (mis)adventure at Raccoon Creek State Park last weekend, visiting a county park with paved trails that wasn't too terribly far from the city sounded like a great idea. We parked near the traffic circle in the center and picked up the Buffalo Ridge Trail, an unpaved trail that winds around the park, across the circle next to the Girl Scout Lodge. This trail was a bit muddy near the creek, but not nearly as bad as the trails at Raccoon Creek, and it promptly dried out as we followed it uphill. Generally, the trail was easy to follow, with some minor ups and downs, except for at the U-shaped parking lot, which it cuts across. Eventually, we found the trail's outlet from the lot and continued on our way, circling around and ending up back on the main path on Corrigan. For the second part of our walk, we continued on the main path along Corrigan until we reached the paved loop path. Needless to say, this part of the walk was easy going, since it was completely paved and basically flat. Additionally, it allowed us to see the Maple Springs area with the gazebo, which was quite picturesque. Given that South Park is located in the South Hills suburbs of PGH, and that the weather was gorgeous, there were many people out and about during our visit. Most of the people we saw were accompanied by either young children or dogs. I was honestly surprised that, given the amount of area we covered in the park, we didn't encounter any bathhouses (though I did see plenty of porta potties). I'm not going to lie--I was also disappointed that we didn't come upon the buffalo, esp. when I heard that they recently calved. :-( Overall, CM and I had a pleasant time in South Park, and would definitely be willing to return--esp. to see the buffalo! While South Park isn't quite as large as North Park and doesn't have a lake and kayaks, there's still plenty to see and do there. So, if the weather's pleasant, and you're looking for a nice change of scenery, check it out! read more

This is a really nice family park with lots of things to do. Some of this includes running/walking path along Corrigan Drive, deck and ice hockey rinks, dog park, playground, fitness trail and some equipment and more! Always very clean including the restaurants I've been in. The roads through the park are sort of hilly and windy so it's great if you want a great workout running or walking. There is also a 0.5 mile track near the horse stables which is great for walking and running. The park is very clean and always filled with friendly people. read more

South Park is a great place for everyone! I come here mostly for running or just a walk during spring and summer time. Very nice place! The park has numerous spots for doing barbecues, picnics and many other activities. They have a field where both cricket and soccer is played ( as far as I know). They might have other fields as well. I have also seen a hockey arena and there is an icecastle located nearby. If you have a dog, you could take your dog to the off-leash area for him\her to run and play with other dogs. Overall a great place for everyone whether it be for a run, picnics or just a walk! read more
