Crystal Cove Beach Cottages - From the porch

These are just fun to do and so California. They are very hard to book so if you happen to snag…read moreone, it's definitely worth a visit. They have a checkin area where you can unload all your stuff as well before moving your car to the parking lot. The cottages have a microwave & a refrigerator with a sink. You can't use the stove/oven, just FYI. I did a 1 nighter in a shared cottage in November. It was cooler weather and we were in the white house upstairs. We had the loft and another party had the side room. We have no issues sharing the common space and it was fun to experience. This April, I scored a 2 night in cottage 4B on the only rainy/gloomy weekend we've had here. Of all the luck. Within 6days of reservation date, you lose 1 night stay so it was sunk cost so I went ahead and did both nights. Easy to check in and checkout. If you are down the hill, you can get a ride on the golf carts which are very nice. 2 cars overnight as well per cabin. Rooms were clean. There is no AC so be prepared depending on your weather. I wanted to leave windows open but most don't have a screen so you get bugs and I was afraid of critters coming in. (Saw it on a youtube from someone. ) Each cottage is different but great to get away. Beautiful location! SYOY!

Ok. I grew up in Orange County and only found out about place this a couple of months ago…read more The history of the cottages is way too long to go into here, but it is very interesting. Currently there are full cottages (like an Airbnb), dorms (private rooms with shared living space),and three ADA cottages. The prices range from $53 -$338 per space, per night, all year. Reservations for the cottages open up 6 months in advance at 8am, and the dorms open up 1 month in advance at 8am. The max time length is 7 days, per reservation. They are located right on the beach in Crystal cove, with full kitchens, bedding, towels, and toilet paper. The views are GORGEOUS!!! Lots of windows, and there is nothing like falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing. We stayed in 29B which is the loft inside building 29 (4 twin beds and private bath downstairs) so cute, so comfortable, and just a lovely stay! The Beachcomber restaurant is located right on the beach as well, serving breakfast lunch and dinner. SUPER packed in summer, not such much in winter. There is a snack bar area, a couple historical building, and a souvenir shop adjacent to the restaurant. The Shake Shack is up at the top of the cliff, up a huge flight of stairs, on PCH. There is also a private meeting room located next to the reg office if you wanted to host a meeting overlooking the ocean. PLEASE NOTE FOR PARKING: the reg office is located past the ranger station, and you have to drive up there to get your keys and unload your car. Then you are given a parking permit, and have to drive your car across the street (PCH) and walk back to the cottage area, about a 10 min walk with minor hills. For the ADA cottages, you can park very close to the cottage. PRO-TIP: bring your own coffee cups, plates, silverware. Very limited in the cabin

The free-standing clawfoot tub was so relaxing (bubble bath provided.) The walkable location has green, lush trees and is super safe. It was assuring for us girls to book a clean, quiet property with kind, unobtrusive hosts. They were invisible, but there... and never too far to address questions and allow us to feel cozy and well-cared for. Originally wanted to be closer to the beach, but we don't regret our choice for Casita Gundry. There's great cafes and breweries to walk to and we were able to drive to the ocean in only 15 minutes. The cottage is small (as disclaimed), but Casita Gundry is well-appointed and stocked with everything we needed. The hosts go above and beyond to provide so many extras and little touches that give guests a warm welcome. There is only one wall air conditioner/heater, but it's effective in making the small guest house comfortable. The beautiful private patio and front terrace are the only areas to socialize and eat, but you can't beat great Cali weather!

Perfect location close to highways and Long Beach Airport. Very optimized use of space. Although overall compact, we were able to comfortably work on the large outside tables and inside on the folding tables. Attentive and helpful host. Highly recommended.

I came here for their Super Bowl event (definitely a long overdue review), but it ended up being…read moresuch a fun experience. They did a really great job with the setup. Everything was set up around the pool with a beautiful ocean view, which already made it feel a little more elevated than your typical game day spot. They had a huge screen so you could enjoy the game from pretty much anywhere, and the overall vibe was just really chill and well put together. The food was buffet style with all the classic Super Bowl favorites, plus some really cute themed desserts. They even made desserts inspired by the teams playing, which was such a fun touch. I also loved how they set up the buffet stations; there were options in both the front and the back, so no matter where your table was, it was easy to grab food without walking all over the place. They also had a raffle going during commercial breaks, which was actually really fun and kept the energy up throughout the game. It made the whole experience feel more interactive instead of just sitting and watching. Your ticket covers unlimited food, which makes it easy to just relax and enjoy everything. Drinks were separate (they had an open bar option for an additional cost), but overall it felt worth it for the experience. It's a great option if you don't want to watch the Super Bowl at home but also don't want the chaos of a crowded bar. Perfect for going with friends or family; good food, great setup, and just an easy, fun time. I'd definitely go again if they host it next year

Partially kidding-friendly but not as we hoped…read more Kids club is amazing and allows 3yos, villas are massive, and the property and views are pretty. The food situation on property is not convenient - expect to wait. The breakfast buffet doesn't start until 9am (what toddlers can wait until 9 to eat?) and even when we arrived right at 9 there was a 30min wait... with half the tables empty. They said they didn't have enough waiters. This is a buffet. Then again for lunch, Catalina and Bashi don't start til 12pm - if toddlers are hungry at 11:30, too bad. And Nelsons had an hour wait. Did not feel easy and relaxing. We were celebrating our 10 year anniversary and picked Terranea because it had a kids club + spa and we wanted to get a couples massage. I booked 6wks in advance. Then when I showed up they said they forgot to actually put the booking in. They were able to scramble and get us separate massages at a different time but not relaxing and not the experience you expect for a $300 (x2) massage. I was hoping this would be our go-to spot near LA but I would not recommend it. I hope they take this feedback and we can try again some day.
