I always buy new cars and i bought a new car from Amato in the spring of this year. After the sale in a week or so the salesman will call to check how things are going with the new vehicle. Not the case with Amato Hyundai , no follow up from Amato This past September i was helping and teaching a relative on the process of buying a new car. My relative was having a difficult time with the purchase process at Amato . I called Amata anonymously to get some information from my relatives salesman at Amato . I did not identify myself but the salesperson somehow knew who i was. When the salesman shockingly identified who I strongly requested he not tell my relative I called . . Guess what,, he called my relative and told my relative I called which he was not to do. As a result my relative was very upset with me and altered our relationship. For this and other reasons if you want a Hyundai please move on to a different dealership . First off, the moral of this story is don't lose your smart key. I did on June 13, 2025. I had to purchase a fob from a dealer further away because Amato didn't have one. They gave me the rundown on what everything else should cost. The next day, I had my car towed to Amato so they could program the fob. They charged me much more than I was quoted; the service department told me to tow it to the other dealer if I didn't like it (yes, really). The fob is sold without the emergency key, so I ordered one from Amato-again, their quote was almost double what the other dealer gave me. I waited several days until they received the blank key, then they couldn't laser cut it to work properly with my car. They ordered another key to be pre-cut. (Makes me wonder why they didn't do that in the first place.) I asked if they could mail it to me since I'd already been there twice trying to replace what I'd lost. They did, in a plain business envelope. USPS charged me $4.56 for postage due. I received the key July 3. Works perfectly. Needless to say, in the future I don't care how much further awayvi have to travel, I will NEVER return to Amato. read more

Today was my first day going to this location since they moved from North 76th. I made an appointment ahead of time for oil change and when I arrived no one came to greet me and I was looking around as to what to do. One of the workers happen to be walking by and said someone should've been out here and asked me to hold on and he open the door for me to go inside. Two workers were sitting down, one on the phone and the other was listening to a coworker complain about something. When he ended his call he addressed me and checked my appointment and told me that my oil change will cost $90 because they use synthetic oil now. I was totally surprised and told him that I should've been informed of that when I made my appointment since they didn't keep the same prices as before. I understand prices have increased but $90 for a typical oil change! That's ridiculous and I was thinking about buying a new car from this location, well that won't be happening. I'm very disappointed in their extraordinary high price for an oil change and that I needed to go somewhere else. Needless to say, I will not be going back!! read more

We had an oil change the other day and then a day later the engine light comes on. We drive the 20 miles to get back to the dealership on Monday. The serviceman Mike said the diagnostics would be on them. He comes back about a hour later and says there is water in the gas tank and there will now be a $60.00 charge for diagnostics after all. This was a cost I wasn't expecting and I only had my checkbook. I get to the counter and the lady says they don't accept checks. What kind of a car dealership doesn't accept checks? They offered to drive me to a bank to get funds out. Seriously? I was steaming mad by this time. Finally they offered to take my $60.00 check. Am I to assume I will need to carry a huge wad of cash with me for repairs in the future? They are supposed to cover the power train. I am praying I don't have trouble with that. read more

I bought a new car here about a month ago. Though I got the car I wanted, it was a terrible experience. I know they've been around for a while, but it certainly seemed like they'd never sold a car before. - I called before showing up for a test drive to see if I should schedule an appointment. I didn't have all day to stand around and wait for a dealer to be available, so I thought I'd be smart and plan ahead. The woman who answered the phone said she didn't know if I could do that, nor did she offer to find out. When I asked her, "does it seem busy right now or if I get there in 15 minutes do you think someone will be able to help me?" she said, "I don't know. I'm sitting in an office and can't see the floor." Not awesome service, though certainly a sign of what was to come. - When I showed up to test drive the car I had in mind, the dealer could not locate it on the lot. I've never worked at a dealership, but I saw the movie Fargo and I thought car dealers took inventory management pretty seriously. I guess not. - When they finally found the car I wanted to test drive, it didn't have any gas in it so I had to wait for them to run it out and fill it up. This just seems like such a huge failing. Why would you not have gas in the cars people are going to be driving? - The proposal they wrote up for me was not even for the right car. Had I not been paying attention I would have ended up with a manual turbo instead of the automatic flex. - I came back two days later to purchase the car, armed with all of the necessary information from my bank through whom I was going to finance it (way better rate than offered at the dealer.) The finance manager (Cody) could not figure out how to work with my bank. (Truthfully, I imagine he could have if he wanted to he just wanted me to finance through them so they'd get more profit.) Because he could not figure out how to do his job, I ended up writing a check for the full purchase price of the car. After I handed him a check he said, "you're all set." I sat there for a few seconds, stunned that there was no "thank you" but finally said nothing and got up and walked away. - When I walked back out to the dealer's desk to get the keys there were 2 women at the desk serving employees what appeared to be homemade food from tupperware containers. One of them served the food while the other collected the money. I had to wait for them to finish their lunch business before I could finish mine. - Sitting again at the dealer's desk reviewing the car's features and whatnot, someone walked behind me scattering F bombs like a flower girl scatters rose petals at a wedding. I was so uncomfortable I did not look behind me to see what was going on. The dealer said, "sorry about that" but did not seem alarmed. - The dealer then wanted to show me the service department should I ever need it. The waiting room was teeming with people. There were maybe 12 chairs but at least 30 people in there. Needless to say, I will not be having my car serviced there. They did honor my TrueCar estimate, which is the only reason I went there instead of another dealer to begin with, but that is not enough for an extra star. There was a recall on the passenger side air bags in my vehicle. I called them to make a service appointment and the rude lady on the phone told me that it didn't cover my vehicle. Well, I knew better so I went ahead and made an appointment anyway to come in later the same day. I got there and stood idly for about 10 minutes as employees milled around me promising someone would help me soon. A woman filled out my paperwork and told me John would be looking at it. I went into the waiting room and was called out by John in about 15 minutes. John went into a long explanation about how the recall was for the passenger side only, and my drivers side seatbelt mechanism was broken (strange, I've never had an issue with it before) and that's why my airbag alert kept coming on on my dashboard (strange again, I've never seen it come on). I told him that I'd never had any issues with drivers side or any alerts, but my complaint was that the passenger side air bag OFF sign was constantly lit up whether or not there was a passenger. He told me to sit back down in the waiting room. About 5 minutes later he calls me out to my car to look at it, IT'S NOT EVEN MY CAR! Finally he admits that the sensor is indeed blown and they'll have to send in the passenger side cushions. He says he hopes I won't be driving with passengers for a while. I asked him to clarify... he was ready to send me out driving this car with no passenger seat and no right side airbags! I insisted on a rental car (as the recall notice stated came free with the fix) and he obliged. Once in the rental I noticed that the gas is only at 1/4 tank, the washer fluid is empty (seems like a luxury, but with slushy weather it truly is a safety hazard), and filthy interior. This is a 2015 rental with just over 1,000 miles on it... how is it so gross already?!? I called back to clarify that there was little gas in it and insisted it is noted so that I am not charged the hefty $6.00 a gallon when I return it at 1/4 tank. They were snooty with me then too. He even said my keys were "in use" when I asked for them to get my house key and office fob... so I guess what I'm saying is... anybody got a couch I can crash on for a couple days? This dealership doesn't even deserve one star rating. Sales people are overly aggressive and expect you to take their first offer. I found another dealership where the sales staff were professional, friendly, and offered a better deal which I accepted. Because I purchased a new car at Boucher Hyundai in Waukesha (I highly recommend), I paid off the car I was trading in. I went to Amato dealership to cancel my extended warranty which was due 9/1 and I still haven't been issued a check. Amato loves to sell you an extended warranty but when they owe you money, they avoid answering phone, don't reply to voice mails and/or return phone calls, and are very rude. I highly recommend anyone to not buy an extended warranty if for whatever reason you want to buy a car from Amato. read more

I am writing in regard to poor customer service experienced at John Amato on 7/17/2018 and 7/18/2018. I have had nothing but positive prior experiences with your company in the past. When I arrived July 5th, 2018 to purchase a vehicle, the process was smooth and the customers service was great. I am currently in a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy , which required my trustee to approve auto financing. I called early Tuesday, July 17th to inform the dealership that I had the approval and I would be arriving at 5pm to finish the deal. I asked if there was anything else needed and they informed me that I just needed to arrive and that they had everything. When I arrived , I was at the dealership for 4 hours. I had been transported back and forth from across the street to the preferred finance side with out any explanation. I was told that I needed an award letter, which I was not able to get until the following day. I was dropped off at the dealership and told the manager at the time that I would need a ride home. He told me I would need to wait until he got off of work and I told him that that was impossible! I am a single mother and had no one to care for my children any longer than I already had. I was placed in a loaner and told to come back the following day. I had to take off of work in order to gather the documents needed. When I arrived at the dealership Wednesday morning, I was greeted by a salesman. I told him that I wanted to speak to someone regarding my concerns and the failure of Amato to communicate,. He directed me to JR. Jr was VERY RUDE. I told him about my horrible experience sitting in the dealership for four hours and having to take off of work. He replied " you are in a bankruptcy, I'm not going to do anything for you. I am currently having talks about not accepting bankruptcy's because of the hassle. We don't owe you anything, you are getting a car". I told him he was rude an inconsiderate and that this was the worst customer service experience. He said " oooh okay". In a very sarcastic manner. I have never been humiliated this bad in my life. people should not be treated poorly because of their financial situation. Don't shop here ! read more

This place is dirty and looks like a cheap place for vehicle maintenance, and the waiting area was filthy. The service advisors acted like I was a bit out of place by saying I was dropping my car off and would pick up later. The woman who took my payment clearly didn't enjoy her job. Brought it back to the dealer in 2010 for a moonroof installation and money was stolen out of my "change bin". The salesperson apologized and handed me a $10 bill. During Fall 2011, someone backed into my car. In early January 2012, the Amato advisor put all of the paperwork together and started work on my car. However, Amato's Body Shop hadn't confirmed the claim, and I was denied. They held my car hostage until I paid for the repair. The next year, 2013, with less than 20,000 miles on my Mazda 5, I noticed that there was shaking/wobbling in the passenger side front tire/wheel. While the details are not documented on the invoice, I had to bring it back at least 3 times, though it was probably 5 times. Each time I'd drive to their location, wait for the shuttle, get to work/home and wait a few hours, get picked up by the shuttle, and then wait for my car. At least 3 times, but it felt like 5. I was told that the wheel bearing was under warranty, but the tires were not. I had to pay for tires, though they gave me a "discount". Each time I dropped off my car they uncovered something "new" to discuss. First the wheel bearing, but they didn't have the part, then the tires, but they didn't have the tires, etc. After however many visits, I drove away and noticed that it was still wobbly. I called back -- while I was driving. The service advisor said that the car just needed several thousand miles to even out--it would go away. I don't put many miles on my car. It's 5 years old now and I haven't hit 30,000 miles. On June 25th, 2015 I called to resolve this. The invoice states that if I can't say that I was "completely satisfied" that I should call Mike Evans. I started with Mike. After being short with me from the beginning, leaving me on speaker phone instead of picking up the phone, and only after he realized that I was getting upset, he finally picked up the phone and looked up my invoice... he explained that I took too long to call back. From the start I explained that I was told that it was fixed and needed "several thousand miles" to go away. He stuck with his side--it was a warranty issue and the warranty has expired and, therefore, not Amato's problem. I was told that Amato would not fix the car "under warranty". There was no point in which he said, "Bring it in, we'll take a look at it and set things right." Or something like, "Your satisfaction is important, bring it in and we'll work something out." This is how you handle a difficult customer situation. This is how you keep people coming back--even if they are upset. You stay calm and work through it. I was becoming more and more upset as we talked. But, there was never a point in which I called him names or became rude. Within the conversation, when it became clear that he was not interested in "discussing" Amato's role in my issue, I mentioned that I'd referred my in-laws to Amato to buy a Mazda, and I was not having a good experience. I asked, "Based on what you're telling me, do you think that I'm going to recommend Amato again?" He told me that there was nothing he could do. It was out-of-warranty. I then explained to --Mike Evans-- the person listed to contact if I'm not "completely satisfied", who should be the best at customer service in the organization, that I'd also had an issue with the body shop doing work on my car before insurance approved it--and that they held my car hostage until I paid for it. I kept waiting for his customer service skills to kick in and just have me come in--to resolve it. Instead, I continued listening to him, not believing that THIS is how I was being treated by the guy I was supposed to contact if I was not "completely satisfied". And... he hung up on me. THIS is John Amato service. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS PLACE. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE FOR SERVICE. DO NOT USE THE BODY SHOP. The buying experience was lovely. Worst service all around! They change the locks on my car because of break ins and still ppl are breaking in . I called first to see if someone can rectify the situation The lady was rude as hell like she spent the money! After the rudeness I had to go there to see why if I just paid them close to $1000 to change my locks why are people still breaking in and could they fix the issue . The guy couldn't explain how people are still breaking in and refuse to rekey the car I was beyond mad ! He gave me this story about maybe the thief has a frequency device and I interrupted and said or maybe the problem was never fixed Who has that kind of cash just to hand over and be in the same situation I was in before I gave them my money. John Amato Hyundai service department is HORRIBLE! My 2017 Elantra was there for service several times. They could not fix it and kept giving it back to me saying it did not code. I could have been hurt or killed when the car lost power on the freeway. To make matters worse they made me pay for the rental. I got so fed up I took it to a different dealership. The problem, John Amato never updated the computer. Isn't that service 101??? All things that are computerized need updating. If I could have given them a negative 10 stars I would have. Overall, my experience buying a vehicle here was pleasurable. I had to do quite a bit of work to deal with my trade in, but this was in no way Amato's fault. Regardless, they delivered my vehicle to me easily and with fairly little hassle. There was a bit of a wait when I initially went in, but business is business. It has been almost a month since my original purchase. Although I thoroughly enjoy my Sonata, my customer service experience has been subpar on many different levels in the month that I have had the car. First off, the car that I purchased did not come with floor mats or with a spare key so the dealership agreed at the point of sale to provide both of those items with the car. Two weeks after the purchase, I contacted the dealer to check on the status of the key and mats since I had not been notified that they had come in and I was informed that they forgot to put in the order for both items. Now, almost a month later I am finally receiving both items. The wait for both items is unacceptable and has been a bad experience. Secondly, I have had to fill out an extra form 3 weeks after the purchase due to an oversight. As a buyer, I would expect the work to be done efficiently and accurately which, in this case, neither has been done. Lastly, employees behave professionally in person but the customer service on the phone has been poor. On a few separate occasions I haven't been sure who I'm even talking to since employees do not pick up and introduce themselves or they do not have a message that states who they are on their answering machine. This is unprofessional behavior and should not occur in any business. Some may think that this is a nitpicky item but it has had an effect on my experience with the dealership. As a first time buyer, I appreciate the deal that I got on my car but I am extremely disappointed with the after purchase experience that I received. Next time that I am in the market for a car or needing service, I will not be looking at cars from this dealership or its partners. read more

DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE! Dropped my car off for an oil change and inspection. Had an appointment for 10am. They never called me to update me on the status of my vehicle. Call the store no one answered. Went to the dealership and they never worked on my vehicle. On top of that I couldn't even take my vehicle home because the whole service team left and locked my truck keys up for the night. I have bought several cars from amato, and I would not recommend or ever go there again. They are liars and do poor repair and maintenance.

They don't even deserve one star. My husband had a accident in his car and when we went to the dealership to file the gap insurance claim, they kept giving the run around for 3 months... and still have not filed the claim as of this date. Big insurance scam...they take the money in, but don't want to pay it out...called the finance manager lisa, and every time we go to file the claim they have us waiting 2 to 3 hours or until we leave. I purchased a brand new Elantra back in April of last year. When I met with the finance manager to sign the paperwork I saw "FIDELITY WARRANTY" , a $2000 extra charged on the loan. It was an extra lifetime warranty. I told him that I didn't need it since the car came with 10 year warranty but he said that the bank (Landmark) required it as a security policy on the loan. 10 months later I traded my car in else where a got a different one. I went through the same bank that Amato Hyundai used to finance me and the head of the loans office at landmark credit told me they NEVER required to purchase any lifetime warranties. They required full coverage insurance and it is SUGGESTED to get GAP insurance but never required. I went back to the dealer, told them I wanted to cancel and get a refund. They kept giving me excuses about it but I finally met with a finance manager. I explained to him what I was told at this dealership before and he basically said I was lying. Why would I chose to acquire more debt on top of the loan? I was forced to buy this. Apparently these finance people make a commission on these add-ons. I gave him the paperwork needed for the refund and they told me it would take a couple of weeks. This was on 2-4-2016. A few weeks later, I called back to check on the status of the refund and spoke to the Mrs Wilson, she's in charged of warranty cancelations. I found out the service manager never attached the paperwork I gave him to process the check so I had to do it all over again. Pretty sure he did it so he didn't lose the commission. After waiting almost 8 weeks I finally received my check. Do not buy vehicles from them, if you do please check your paperwork and ask around, call the bank, make sure you don't fall into these kind of scams! read more

I had an appointment to look at 2 cars that were on their website. I came in for my appointment and they didn't have either car. One was actually sold and the other was not on site. Needless to say communication is obviously an issue here. I would have appreciated a call to tell me the cars were not available before making the 30 minute drive there. The salesman was annoying. when i told him that I'm not in a hurry... he said well I am... jokingly. I will not be back. Update: I told them i wouldn't be back. Now they are emailing me, texting me, and calling me. Talk about pushy salesman. I never gave them my email address. I'm very dissatisfied with their lack of respect for customers and their disorganization. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH AMATO AUTOMOTIVE GROUP!!! RUDE. DISHONEST. CONTRADICTORY. INSULTING. These are not only adjectives that represent the GM (jr) at Amato Hyundai Mazda but, are accurate in their use of describing the service manager (mike) as well. Hyundais are cheap, but have a long warranty. However, the warranty is fairly useless if the dealership refuses to do the work. The Service Manager made up anything he could think of to get out of doing the work. I was told that I should have been performing maintenance that is NOT outlined in the owners manual or on Direct Hit as part of routine service. Before I continue I should point out that all routine maintenance and inspections have been performed and there is documentation to support this. Based on service suggestions completely made up on the spot by mike, and that any reputable mechanic would tell you is just plain BS, I was informed the work would not be performed. Jr, the GM, basically said that even though I bought the car from his dealership, because I chose not use his (inconvenient and unprofessional) service department for oil changes and ect. , that I shouldn't expect them to fix my car. While this was going on, without my knowledge, the sales manager was on the phone with my wife saying, "I'm sorry you're having troubles with our service department. How's about I get you in a new car instead?" Really?! Pretty much all dealerships are a bunch sleazy snakes, but this place takes the cake. We bought a used car from this dealership 2 years ago, we put $1,400 into the car a couple of months ago, brought it back in with the same problem and now the cost to fix it is another $1,500 - really?? We trusted that this car was well checked over and had an honest evaluation was given prior to the car being brought, I would think that we would not be receiving a $3,000 bill after only having this car for such a short period of time. Ridiculous :-( My family have been working with Amato Hyundai for over 14 years, have purchased at least 3 vehicles from here. AVOID THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. Scheduled an appointment online, got there they only had me down for an oil change and not the other 2 things I was trying to give them money for (transmission diagnosis and quote on tires). I got a call back a couple hours later and was told the ridiculous price to service the vehicle. I let the gentlemen know I will just pick it up (no hard-feelings, your price is your price) This is what upset me. He stated ok i will have it ready 15 minutes. I waited a while, no call for the shuttle to come get me, so I called back. I was directed to service no answer. Trying to pick up during my lunch break here. I called again, the lady told me they must be on lunch and their shuttle people are all out. So why did the service advisor tell me 15 minutes !?!?. I finally get picked up and get there, was charged $28 more than I was initially told. It gets worse, I was told their emission machine was down all day so they couldn't do my emission testing. NO APOLOGIES OR ANYTHING. SIGH, John Amato please get on your people. I fell in love with Hyundais because of your dealership, unfortunately my next service appointment and vehicle purchase will be somewhere else. read more

I recently had a very bad experience with John Amato Hyundai. I will never do business with them again. I literally had a salesperson accuse me of lying to him. They made me promised just to get me into the dealership and wasted my time, three whole days to be exact. I was contacted by a salesperson named, Adue. I explained to him that I did not have good credit and needed my payment to be under $300. He showed me two cars, both with payments over $300.00. At one point did make a statement that I wanted to look at affordable cars, because I did not want a $400.00 car payment, but I did tell him, at the beginning that I wanted to keep my payment under $300.00. Be basically accused me of lying and stated I told him under $400.00. We were also advised that it would be better if we added my wife to the loan. We did and were told we were all set, but had to come back on Monday to sign the peppers, because it was Saturday and the finance office was closed. I waited until Monday and was told that they were battling it out with the finance company to get us approved. I spoke with my salesperson again and he told me I never told him I had an existing car loan. He used a very accusatory tone and suggested I was trying to deceive him. I advised him, at the very beginning, that we have a $320..00 car payment on our existing car and that is why we needed to keep our payments low. The finance office advised us on Tuesday, that we need to pay a $3000.00 down payment to get approved. I feel that this dealership was not honest with us from the very beginning and wasted three days that we could have gone elsewhere. My biggest complaint, however, is the salesperson accusing me of being dishonest and deceitful. I also left a voicemail with the sales manager and no one returned my call. I am so upset and frustrated with this company!!!!! I've been speaking to a couple of people about the same car for a week. I did my online research and set up a test drive for a specific vehicle. I even went the extended route and spoke to someone last night around 6pm to make sure my test drive would be scheduled for that specific vehicle. I spoke with Jasmin who reassured me that my test drive was scheduled. I get to my appt today only to find out the car I specifically was to test drive is sold. Now that is fine If you needed to sell the car but my issue is that I spoke with 2 different who tell me the car is available and I also asked the car was to sell before my appt that I be told so I don't make the 45 mins drive there. These online car salesmen are horrible and lie. The funny thing is once they tell me the car is sold they don't stand there with there fingers up their butts not knowing what to do. It takes way too long to transact business here. Make sure you read your contract as it's the last thing you sign mine was incorrect. Two separate times for my first oil change no response when I tried to find out which one was correct had an issue call to see if I needed to bring it there no response from salesman. read more

Went to have an oil change, price for oil change was $27.95 plus tax and was quoted that was my price on the phone before I picked my car up . When I got to the cashier (whom was rude) they had added an extra 17.00 to my bill. WILL NEVER return there. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't do business with them. read more

I have had a great experience so far. I had seen a car on Carsoup.com and came into test drive it. My salesperson, Clarke, was really nice. If she didn't know the answer, she found out. I purchased the car & it had a couple issues (it's used so these things happen). They arranged for a car for me to drive while they looked it over. They also made arrangements for extra keys & keyless entry that I requested. It's not a 5 star because I did have to have minor repairs right away. read more

In July of this year, we had our first "car totaled"accident. My husband went looking for another Hyundai. Due to the stress of the accident I had difficulty being a passenger in anyone's vehicle. I trusted my husband, and I trust that Hyundai is a good car. What could go wrong? He went to pick up the used (2016) Sonata, (which was a dealer owned vehicle). The vehicle was purchased the first week in August (2017) and it was supposedly detailed before he brought it home. The car looked great, but when I sat inside, the overpowering scent of something perfumey made my throat burn and hurt my nasal passages. We spent more that thirty hours (that was thirty hours, per each of us) trying to get the smell out. Amato then used an ozonator overnight and it was some better. Today, the 22nd of October the smell still clings to the interior. Whoever "detailed" this, sprayed some orange colored stuff in the vents, so the smell is deep down in the vent system. We cleaned the vents as best we could. But we still need to do more to the interior which we cleaned and steamed cleaned to very little avail. We should have paid the $500 restocking fee within the three days. Who would believe that their idea of detailing was spraying smelly (insert the sh word here) all over the interior. If I had gone with my husband when he picked up the car, I would have refused to purchase it. Oh, live and learn! So I am just letting you know, do not purchase a detailed car from Amato. The smell even stuck to our clothes and hair in the beginning, although it is some better now after WE did three complete interior cleanings. read more
