When I arrived his office staff informed me that I was to pay an additional $200 above what the plan said I was to pay for the "special materials" he was going to use . I refused. If he wanted additional money he had 3 weeks to contact me and discuss the situation. Instead he chose to spring it on me 3 minutes before the procedure was to be performed. I left. If he is "participating'" he's agreed to accept the payment outlined in the predetermination. Don't trust this provider. He's not on the up and up. I reported this incident to the insurance carrier.

Dr Shank and his staff provide great service and truly cares for his patients. When you walk in, you see a small waiting room. There is a basement play room for where the younger kids can play while they wait to be called in. The receptionists are courteous and always on top of things...very efficient. They greet the kids as they walk up come in the sign in. Dr Shank embraces technologies. He has a web site where you can check your appointments, and register for TXT reminder for appointment. Recently he sent out mail and emails about an event he was having to show his appreciation for his patients. A day when any one of his patients could come in a get free ice cream. A small gesture, but a very thoughtful one. Went there today to have my son's braces adjusted (only ran into 2 people that we knew), and he walked out with an Italian Ice. :)

For example, my insurance allows 4 cleanings per year, in other places they were calendared ahead of time one each quarter. Here: they only schedule 1 appointment, then tell you the next available appointment is 4 months. So basically you miss your second cleaning. So you ask them to proactively schedule the 4th appointment so you ensure you have it- they won't! Then to top it off they just cancel your appointment because all the hygienists call out sick on the same day. You would think they would try to fit those clients into the schedule. No! Sorry wait till next year. Awful location. Save yourself some grief.

But, a good glass of cabernet and a night of discussing random topics with my friend, had got me thinking about how I left this swindler to con her way around town. I need a chance to rectify this and here it is: I saw Dr. Glazer a couple of years ago. She claimed that I had 12 cavities (Yes, TWELVE). I was shocked and of course, being so young and naive, I trusted her and unfortunately, did not get a second opinion. She did work on my teeth with my go-ahead. This was one of the most painful experiences I had ever had at the hands of a dentist and I love going to the dentist. After working on about 6 of my teeth (over a few visits), she began to work on one of my bottom teeth. She gave me a shot in my gums to numb me, however, while she was drilling, I stopped her and told her I still felt it. She basically told me to deal with it because she did not want to give me another shot. After this, I smartened up and I went to a different dentist who turned out to be amazing (Dr. Branca who is located in Smithtown right across from the Smithhaven Mall). My first visit was amazing with Dr. Branca. First of all, his office is immaculate; unlike Dr. Glazer's run-down hole. To add, his staff is so kind and helpful; unlike Dr. Glazer's staff who seemed to not have a clue what they were doing. Dr. Branca is so nice and creates trust which blossoms into friendships with all of his patients. I will say that Dr. Glazer comes off very sweet and friendly... However, they do say that the devil doesn't come dressed in a red cape and pointy horns. Furthermore, when Dr. Branca's staff contacted Dr. Glazer's office to have them send over my x-rays, she REFUSED. She claimed she did not have the means to send them. This has got to be illegal, right? How could it not be? She is withholding patient records. Anyway, when my new dentist peaked around my mouth, he saw her work and had to re-do everything! Did I have 12 cavities? No. But she worked on 7 of my teeth and each one had to be fixed because... and here comes the kicker... SHE DID NOT CLEAN THEM OUT. SHE DRILLED THE TOOTH, LEFT DECAY, AND JUST FILLED IT RIGHT UP. No wonder I was in pain after I left her... she could have caused a huge infection in my mouth, and now that I think about it, maybe to have me keep coming back to her!? Fortunately, for Dr. Glazer, she was able to go through my insurance to pay for her horrendous work. Unfortunately for me, there was nothing left to cover the 7 teeth that needed to be fixed, the two root canals I had to get done, and the 2 cavities that I had which she didn't even touch. Thankfully, Branca and his staff sat down with me and helped me figure everything out and I was able to get my much-needed work done. Please don't go to her for the sake of your health and your wallet. I am just sorry it took me so long to write this and hope I save someone from this evil-doer. No no, I am no hero... Just a good samaritan.
