I almost don't want to share this well-kept secret, but I am SO glad I that I paid attention to the other reviewers. Short Version: ***CURLY HAIR EXPERT***. I have been to a lot of salons/stylist in the north end over the last 5 years and I have finally found THE ONE! Pros: -Great mix of being very personable yet professional. -She was very friendly and upbeat, immediately put me at ease, and was GREAT AT SMALL TALK without being invasive or like she was interviewing me. (I always hate the salon chit chat, but I actually really enjoyed talking to her.) -Joey seems to really care about her clients having a great experience. -When I walked in was not critical about the state of my hair, how long ago my last cut was and I did not get the third degree about the (non-expensive) products I used to date. -Felt like Joey really wanted to partner with me: she treated me as a individual and wanted to do what worked for MY unique hair and she gave me a style I could replicate at home. -Took a lot of time to teach about my hair and why she was doing what she was doing. -Clear expertise (won an award for the salon she owned in Texas) and passion about her work. -NO high pressure upsell for products or for immediately booking a return apt on the spot. Cons -At first, I was wary of the price point especially that it is not in downtown Seattle, but now I would say the experience was worth every penny and that I got a lot of value for the investment. read more

There is nothing new I can say about Joey that all these wonderful people haven't said already but what I can say is.... BELIEVE THE HYPE!! IT'S REAL! I went to cut some of the dead hair off while keeping my length because I am trying to grow it out. She even told me that my hair would feel longer after she cut it and I so did not believe her but she was so right!! I have never experienced that before, its like she is magic! It has been said so many times by other reviewers but she really does take the time to talk to you about #hairgoals and get to know what you really want AND adds her wonderful expertise and artistry in such a humble and fun way. Joey is not at all judgmental or condescending as some hair stylists can be. Her energy is so positive and bright I just did not want to leave! I came in for a hair cut and came out rejuvenated and happy and bouncy and dying for some breakfast tacos (if you go please try to talk her into blessing the PNW with some of those!)! I showed Joey a picture of the last haircut I had that I really liked (which was YEARS ago) and she gave me the haircut I asked for but even better! When she was done cutting my hair she added a little product that gave it a cute curl that my husband said was sexy. Going to have to ask what that was! Even after washing my hair and letting it air dry the layers that she added keep it bouncy and full; it's a wonderful cut for my face shape and hair type, which is fine. I also really enjoyed Joey's company very much, she has a great energy to be around. Cringe-worthy moment of the whole experience: When I hit only 20% for the tip. It's just an auto response for me to hit it, but this was one of the rare times where you can actually use a tip to thank someone for impeccable service and I missed it. I was looking for not just a hair stylist but a true artist. Ms. Miller's book of work, studio space and my own haircut is exactly that. Artistic. I don't understand my own hair and I can't be bothered to. I wanted a trendy, slightly messy, textured long bob. She was able to study me, my hair and how it grows and give me what I needed with respect to my lifestyle. She uses visionary language and clever techniques and I was like yes Yes YES. You're the expert. I love the style she gave me. So I immediately booked my next appointment for color. I want to go back to auburn so badly but it's a lot of work and upkeep$$. Joey is THE hair whisperer. I was blown away by the end result. Simply amazing. Her level of knowledge is astounding! She is also honest with you. So refreshing! I've never been so happy with someone doing my hair! I wanted to get away from the yellow/brassy blonde and go ashy. We had a consultation a few weeks prior and discussed a plan. I showed her pictures and she explained every option. She was also upfront with costs. She is extremely professional and such a sweet person. I feel like my before and after picture really don't do the color change any justice! She also kept the integrity of my hair, which I was not expecting, considering what I wanted to do. I was looking for a stylist and came across Joey Miller Studio on Yelp. I contacted Joey and she quickly got back to me and we made an appointment for a consultation. I have somewhat difficult hair and was looking to add curls and get color and a trim and Joey really took the time to understand what I was looking for and how to work with my hair. The appointment went well and I couldn't be happier with the style. It's not only easy to manage, but my hair is in much better condition even after chemical treatment. Her studio is comfortable and Joey has amazing skills. Her attitude is refreshing since she really focuses on the individual and what works best for them. Joey is a fabulous hair stylist!! If you have curly or wavy hair she's your girl. She did exactly what I was looking for in a hair cut and also added in some beautiful highlights that really picked up the color for summer. She is super fun to talk to and is a very sincere and kind person. She LISTENED to what I wanted and cut my wavy/curly hair in a way that would work for me whether I styled it or just rolled out of bed and put some product on it. I love my hair now. I had the best experience getting my hair colored and cut with Joey!!! I wanted to bring some of my natural darker color back for the fall and not have so much maintenance with highlighting all the time. She brought back natural color through ombre and did baby-lights to bring a glow of lighter color. I honestly can say that she has the been the first person to listen to what I wanted and give the look I have been looking for. Joey is the absolute BEST. She's an artist and a miracle worker, able to transform the most limp and bedraggled mop (mine) into the kind of do that people stop and ask you about in the grocery store. Joey is an amazing stylist! Hands down the best I have ever seen. My children and I have been seeing her for a little over a year. If you want a precision cut, she's the woman to see. My color is always amazing. I love walking in and having complete trust in my stylist. I am very picky and she has never disappointed. As an Asian male, I can confirm Joey can do Asian male hair better than anybody else within the 50 mile radius at the very least.
