STAY AWAY!! My fiancé and I bought our first home together and decided to remodel. We both worked overtime for months in advance to save up enough money in order to make our place perfect. Joe was great at first, always answering our phone calls and fixing any issues we had. However, things started to change when we began the painting process. He hired the first painter who did a horrible job. There were paint drips ALL over the house, he missed a lot of spots and there was paint on our brand new floor!! Joe told us to put blue tape on the walls as we did and the painter came and tore them all off without fixing anything! He then sent over another painter who was amazing but could only do so much as there were a lot of mistakes.
Then, a few weeks later as we were finishing up the renovations, the pipe underneath our sink that connects to the fridge bursts. My fiancé and I were not home as we both work nightshifts. There was approximately 2 inches of water in our living room, kitchen and hallway. We were sweeping out the water with brooms through our sliding glass door when we found it. Joe did show up at 4am to help us clean up and stated "I will fix anything that got ruined and replace anything that needs to be". We had belongings on the floor such as pictures, speakers, vacuums, etc.
However, later that afternoon we called Joe to ask what the plan was so that mildew and mold would not occur. He stated that the walls and floors needed to dry naturally on its own and it would be okay. We did not feel comfortable with this as we did not want to have to tear down the drywall in the future, we decided to call a restoration company that does moisture tests and has machines, fans and dehumidifiers to help soak up the water to prevent mold and mildew. The company showed us pictures of the moisture underneath the floors and walls, and there was ALOT as we knew there would be. We called Joe and he stated that it was a rip off and he would bring his own dehumidifiers and fans. We mistakenly trusted Joe and sent the company home. Joe sent a worker back later that day with ONE little dehumidifier and ONE little fan for a 1900 square foot home. Basically he was trying to cheap out and put a bandaid on the situation. We called the restoration company back that quoted us for $3,000 for the job and let them start at this was time sensitive. I called Joe before they started and told him who then changed personalities very quickly, he was very rude and stated he would not pay for this and this was not his fault.
Mind you that we renovated the entire place top to bottom! He hired in a cheap plumber that did not do the job correctly and did not replace the piece that broke underneath our sink when he should have during the renovations. As the contractor, he is responsible for overseeing the work of the people he brings in.
The worst part is the water leaked through our wall into our neighbors wall and ruined their bamboo floors. Their floors were lifted up! Joe stated that day that he would fix their floors and to give them his number, so we did. But the very next day he went to our neighbors home and stated it was not his fault and he would not fix their floors anymore.
On top of all of this, we payed for our baseboards that had to be ripped up because of the water damage and Joe said he would have a worker install new baseboards and paint them. The baseboards were installed but never painted and Joe called us and stated nobody would be coming back to fix anything else. So now we are stuck with unfinished baseboards, paint on the floors and unfinished paint on the walls, $3,000 restoration bill, chipped cabinets (the workers who installed them were not careful with them), wood sticking out in random places on the island and our neighbors floor to replace. He refuses to answer out phone calls anymore and keeps forwarding them to voicemail.
I hope nobody ever uses him in the future as we do not wish this mess upon anybody! I have included pictures of the mess left behind. read more
