I'd like to start off by saying that this is my 1st yelp review. I have never had such a bad experience that made me feel so compelled to write a review.
My original planner brought JoEllen in to help with our ceremony since our reception venue was at different vineyard. I had never met JoEllen previously, and was just told that she was a great planner. She was also hired to stick around during the reception to drive home any of our elder guests that could not get on the shuttle buses.
JoEllen was in charge of the ceremony, which included setting everything up, then taking me and my mother and girlfriends there. When we got there, I found that the "to toss" rice containers were not hanging on the chairs, so I asked her if she could help. She snapped at me and said she was too busy. I'm not sure why this wasn't set up to begin with, she evidently had plenty of time to do this after leaving the venue, because when she came back to my hotel she spent an hour at our hotel room eating, getting ready and putting on makeup. I would have expected the ceremony setup to be completed before she came to pick us up, which I even discussed with my planner was more important the day before, since I didn't need any help at my hotel.
So instead, my mother and 3 girlfriends were running around while guests had already arrived trying to set up the rice containers, instead of being able to relax and enjoy the beautiful venue. The fact is that they were happy to do anything to help, but I could not believe the way that any of us were spoken to. I have never been spoken to like that in my life and couldn't believe that's how I was being treated. I am a New Yorker and can handle harsh, rude, pushy people and never expect anyone to kiss my butt, but the last thing I expect is to be treated like crap on my wedding day.
Her job was to help resolve any last minute issues and keep things calm, but in fact she was adding panic and stress to all of us. I have never met anyone so frantic, rude and the manner of how she reacted was what upset all of us the most.
If she was that unprepared, all she had to do was ask for some help instead of snapping at us with an attitude, ordering my friends around. Even our photographer asked me if I was ok, as he was in shock too. She was so unprofessional, I'm not sure where the previous reviews came from, perhaps she didn't care to be friendly since she wasn't hired as the original planner.
I felt like we had to tip-toe around her and I was scared when I asked her if she could have the shuttles wait down by the tasting room since they had arrived early and i didn't want the groom to see me. The request was apparently denied because all of the guests ended up by us anyway.
She was also in charge of everything when the ceremony was over, i.e. chairs, taking decor down. My friends told me days after (they didn't want to upset me even more) that JoEllen ordered them to take down some of the decor. There was no rush for her to get back to the reception, so I have no idea why she felt the need to order my friends to do this.
I could go on and on....the glass that was supposed to be stepped on to honor my husband's mother was forgotten (we were celebrating a multi-cultural korean, irish, jewish wedding and wanted to include all cultures/religions). She was extremely hurt that this was left out, as for anyone that's jewish, this is an important part of the ceremony.
When we asked her to drive my grandfather home (he was dizzy and almost fell over), she snapped at all of us asking where her purse was. When we told her it was in the back of the car, she continued to freak out at us frantically looking for her bag (I was almost glad that did this in front of my original planner so she could witness it firsthand).
I can understand that things can be forgotten and nothing can be perfect, and I made it a point to not let any of that bother me on our wedding day. However, I think that the most important job of a planner is to be detail-oriented and to remain calm and help resolve any last minute issues and she was anything but that. read more
