It was my first time visiting Joe taco, and I had my family with me. The place had a nice layout and decorations. But, where I was sitting I had a straight shot view of part of the kitchen. The first thing I noticed was that the floor was extremely dirty, and I saw two different employees on two different occasions eating and drinking in the kitchen around the food preparation. I know that this is a major health code violation. It really grossed me out. I had ordered the brisket tacos, and honestly they were delicious. I loved them. The salsa also was good. I posted a photo of the dirty kitchen floors, but I did not include one of the employees eating because I don't want people to lose their jobs that have families to support. I hope that the owners or management will see this and make sure that this practice of them eating in the kitchen will be addressed. It was on a Monday around 5 PM or so. The server was great she was very polite, professional, and accommodating. I would have given this place four stars, had it not been for viewing that dirty kitchen and the employees eating in there. read more

The stuffed avocado is on the verge of being life changing. The deep fried peppers are very good as well. Staff is friendly, quick and the place is clean. They also have a lot of outdoor seating and TVs for games. Highly recommend eating here. read more

This place is SO good I'm thinking I should drive from DFW just to go here.....but probably won't!! I had the Joe's Big A burrito and it definitely was Big A!! Unless you are SUPER hungry, split this with someone or have part of it for lunch the next day! (That's what I would do!) My husband had the stuffed avocado and it was good but not as good as my burrito!! Service was efficient and friendly. I used to love Joe Taco. The atmosphere was great and the food is good. But here lately I am just over that place. The first problem is they are so concerned with making money that they will cram every last person in there elbow to elbow. It is loud and uncomfortable to eat so close to strangers. I would rather wait for a table than be crammed like that. The second is the last few times I have been there the menu and drinks seem to get more and more expensive. It is good food but not good enough to charge the prices they are charging. My go to is the stuffed avocado and I will always love it but they kept seeming to go up in price. It is very frustrating. Well last night they had it on the menu for the price they originally were. $8. I was really excited so I ordered them. Sadly when my food came out the avocados were extremely small and so were my side portions. It definitely wasn't a meals worth of food. I also ordered a margarita that was very good but I'm not a fan of paying $6 for one drink that was mostly ice. So I asked my waiter Darias what was on special and he told me he had a blue coconut margarita or a watermelon margarita. I ordered the watermelon and normally when I order margarita specials there they are $3. When my first one came out it was really good but had hardly any alcohol and was mostly ice. I decided to go ahead and order one more because my waiter asked me at least 4 times and I finally caved in and no surprise it was the same thing. No alcohol and full of ice. Finally I get my check and they decided instead of $8 they would charge me $9.79 for my stuffed avocados. My regular margarita was $5.75 but my so called "drinks on special" were $7.95 each! ARE YOU SERIOUS!? I have never been so mad. And those prices were before tax. That is a complete joke. I have no idea where they are getting prices from because what I paid is not what was advertised. I am very disappointed at this point and honestly could care less to go back. read more

This place was average at best when I went for dinner. It was my birthday and I wanted to try a place I haven't been to before. Being new to the area, I hadn't made it to Joe taco, but had heard of it. So I went with a friend to try it and to celebrate. The server seemed bored and like he didn't want to be there. He was also kinda pushy about getting our order, even though we had never been before, and needed a minute to decide. Atmosphere was pretty nice and colorful. Food came out pretty quickly which was appreciated. But my enchiladas were dry and bland. The salsa with the chips was equally bland. By the end of the meal, I was ready to get out of there. I am not in any hurry to go back. I have discovered better Mexican food places in Amarillo than this. But I guess it's not the worst place I have been to. It's a meal. read more

My family and I have eaten here many times, and always get great service & their food is wonderful. Typical prices for most Mexican food places, but better quality than many that I have tried. Just passing through Amarillo. Our hotel staff recommended Joe Taco. OMG! So glad we ate here! What a find! My hubby had the fajita enchiladas and I ordered the Adobe Chicken Salad. I asked them to substitute the Mexican pulled pork instead of chicken and it was soooooo good! Service by Kason was perfect. Plenty of water, plenty of chips and salsa and timely food appearance! Ambiance is loud and classic rock and roll Music was playing . We come through Amarillo at least once a year or 2 on our way to family. We will be happy to stop here in the future! read more

A never fail choice for "Mexican" food in Amarillo. The stuffed avocados are always great especially with pulled pork and sour cream sauce. The fajitas are awesome as well. Joe Taco also has one of the best quesos in the city. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The only negative is the parking. The parking lot is very small and the surrounding medical offices threaten to tow your car if you park there. Get there early if you want a good spot. read more

Amazing find on our road trip! Inside doesn't look all that clean. But we brought 2 salads back to our hotel and they were delicious! The dressings were delicious! If you need wedding food catered that hungry people can go back for seconds (aka most Texans) this is the place! Joe Taco Catering catered my wedding, we chose the fajita plate which comes with chicken and beef fajita meat, beans, rice, all the extra sides and I added on queso. Really Big Bang for your buck and huge hit with everyone there. Most people appreciated the fact they could eat as much as they wanted and you didn't lose the deliciousness, unlike most catered plates of food. They set up by 4:30pm for my wedding at 5:30pm and asked me how long they needed to stay. When they did leave, they offered to leave the left over food and left the sweet tea/lemonade that comes with the Catering. I will definitely use them again if I ever have a party! read more

Joe taco is one of few nice al fresco dining patios in Amarillo and the patio and cold beer are worth 5 stars. The food and service are worth zero stars therefore they get a grand total of 2. With a pretty extensive menu you might get excited...but don't you'll only be disappointed because IF they get your order right it will be mediocre. Just picked up our to go order. First of all when I arrived they said it was going to be longer than expected, kitchen was behind. That's ok, thank for letting me know. I ordered chicken fajitas for two. When they bring my order out, there are no chips. That's ok she went and got them. Well then we get home. Only got cheese and sour cream for one person fajitas. Only got a serving of beans for one. Also, the chicken was cold, and the tortillas were cold and chewy. For having to wait longer for food, I would of thought it would of been fresh. Stopped at this place on my way to my in-laws in Oklahoma and it was nice ole joint. I didn't get to meet Joe Taco but I did meet my maker in Groom, Texas after my meal there...don't get me wrong the food was really good, I just got a rather sensitive system inherited from my my mom's dad. All the Mexican kids would make fun of him because he couldn't even handle some Tapatio. Anyways will stop by again next time we visit my wife's parents. Meh is the word. A recent visit on a busy weeknight showed how much the quality has slipped since we last stopped in. I had the Chicken Verde (rumor had it that it was the same recipe as the Chicken Con Chile Verde from Santa Fe, a former restaurant of the Joe Taco group). I should have known something was up when it arrived in less than two minutes after I ordered it. So lukewarm that the cheese on top wouldn't even melt, and I'm pretty sure the chicken used was on the verge of it's expiration date. Nothing on my plate was piping hot. The avocado-like sauce served with the chips and hot sauce was the only bright spot of the meal. The fish tacos were only average. An eclectic group of servers to say the least. With so many other good places to eat Mexican food in Amarillo (think El Bracero, El Tejavan, La Campana), there's absolutely no reason to visit the out-of-the-way Joe Taco. read more
