Below is an overview of my experiences during a renovation by IMC Buildling/Isaac Montgomery in…read more2024. * The day after I closed, on my new house Isaac called and said "one of my guys" left tools in the house overnight and a window and the outside door to the garage had been severely damaged. I found out later his unlicensed and unsupervised son was responsible. Isaac did not reimburse me for the over $2K for replacements. * My garage was used to fabricate stone for the kitchen (permission not requested). Isaac said it had to be done on-site since it was sintered stone. That is not the case, and in addition the installer was a tile installer who had no idea how to install slabs. Instead of a plywood base he put in a sandy base and used thin set instead of silicone to mount the stone. When he put in a ¼" seam in the middle of my countertop I put a stop to it and hired a qualified contractor who had to replace everything. * I had all of the existing flooring replaced with LVP and told Isaac I wanted to make sure no dust got into the HVAC system since I'd had a motor in my prior home burned out due to that. He said it would not be a problem. I found the flooring buys cutting boards inside my house with nothing protecting the HVAC vents. It caused $1,270 of damage that Isaac refused to pay. * The stairs were modified to open up the wall that enclosed them. Renovations started in April, but there was no banister until July. This was a huge liability for me as a homeowner, but my requests to quickly resolve it were ignored. In addition, the area for the railing on the outside of the stairs was mismeasured. The installation had to be kludged, resulting in very thick bases for the railing that don't look great. * Isaac insisted on ordering all of the appliances so he could keep track of everything (and of course get points on his credit card instead of mIne). The refrigerator was not there when I moved in as it turned out it was not delivered for a week. * I had specified a drawer microwave which required the modification of a cabinet. The cabinet was modified for a standard microwave and had to be re-modified. Then that one was done incorrectly and it had to be modified a 3rd time. * I was told the flooring upstairs would be replaced by the time I moved in and the upstairs would be my "oasis." The upstairs was absolutely thick with flooring dust everywhere - truly disgusting. The downstairs was also filthy and my new (unused) induction range was not covered and was thick with dust - including in the vents. * Multiple new unused items that I was replacing were taken by Isaac without asking (lighting, sink, faucets, over-the-range microwave, pedestal sink). When I asked for them back Isaac threw them unsecured into the back of a pickup and broke a couple of the light fixtures. * By the time I fired the contractor the project was $6K over the entire budget with 12 projects unfinished. I received zero apologies for any of this.

I only met him once and we communicated via text and phone calls while I was 220 miles away and just let him go on the remodel. Jeremy is wonderful on communication, returns calls within 2 hours or less, sends pictures of progress, asks for clarification and gives advice. Workers show up everyday and all trash and debris was taken care of. All the things you want in a GC. His attention to detail is outstanding. He even redid the molding around of the inside of the closet doors, something you wouldn't see unless you looked. The cabinets fit perfectly, every corner of the tile work was clean. Lights were moved and placed exactly where I wanted them. Everything works. He's very respectful of property and we could not have hired someone better. We will definitely be reaching out to him in the next year or two for the next phase on the outside of the house.

We have given several jobs to Casey Johnston at our home on the Central Coast, and you can sum up…read morehis work by calling him a true professional. We started with a small job, the installation of a tankless water heater. What really impressed me was how neat every connection was, and how exacting every joint. It's as good as if I did it myself (and knew what I was doing!). We then had Casey do a complete makeover of the exterior of our home: new stucco, windows, doors, decks, railings and paint. It is really beautiful, both in craftsmanship and esthetics. People stop and tell me how attractive my home is now. Currently we are in the midst of a kitchen/living room remodel, and things are still great. Casey has stuck to the budget and kept on schedule, and we anticipate another satisfying, attractive result. His designer Kathy has been great with suggestions but has also listened to what we wanted, and so the result is exactly what we wanted before we actually knew what that was. Not that things don't go wrong in a remodel - no one is perfect, and neither is every product. When we have had the occasional hiccup, Casey has stood behind his work and remedied the problem quickly and without complaint. I would recommend Casey Johnston Construction without reservation.

I'd even seen some of their timber used in the adjacent Bang The Drum brewery bar garden. But it wasn't until I wanted to build a pergola to support a new Wisteria plant that I actually went in and looked around. You'll need some imagination and a rough sketch of what you want to make so one of their carpenters can show you around and help you find what you need. Everywhere are big heaps of neatly stacked timbers from barns or wineries or old buildings. If you want something old and with character this is the place to look. I found some rough logs still with bark attached, some old fir boards from the days when 2"x4" meant real measurements and some rough thinner logs to go on top of my structure. I received lots of help with refining my design and tips on how to join it all together. They even offered to build it on site for me so I could see it all fitted and then to deliver it so I could build it at home. I chose to do my own experimenting (as its cheaper that way) but they do deliver so that saved my trying to balance it in a regular car. I've seen furniture they build in the yard: gorgeous stuff made from old wine oak flavor sticks which has color and character and a good smell.
