I work in the plaza and went to get coffee for my boss and food for my self and the waitress and she immediately was rude saying that she adds gratuity to takeout and don't have time for takeout I wasn't greeted and she proceeded to say i don't care about takeout. So once I placed my order I was going to go to work to pick it back up and I didn't see that she put the creamer in front of me so I was going to ask a question about it and she immediately gets rude and says i don't have time to fix your coffee. Nobody was asking for help i was asking a question. I've been here before and it's a good place for breakfast. Today the restaurant was half empty, but being a Tuesday morning, not entirely unexpected. The inside is cutely decorated and there are 5 booths along one wall and about 8 tables of different sizes. A low wall seperates the restaurant into two rooms and in the other room is a counter with seating, the open cooking area and a few more tables. My server was very friendly and my order was brought fresh and hot. My softly scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked (unusually lucky for me), since most restaurants never seem to understand what soft scrambled eggs should look like. The pancakes were large and fluffy. This is an old time, rather dated, breakfast & lunch spot. Reasonable prices, quick delivery of food. Nothing special or unique about it. We had the hamburger and a turkey cheese deluxe sandwich. Our server asked how we wanted the burger cooked, so I had high hopes. Alas, it was thin enough that it was either gonna be still frozen or cooked through. Stopped in for breakfast - hadn't been there since the business was sold and was curious. Sat at the counter, first seat next to the register, and the server asked me if I wanted take out. I said no, can I sit and eat here? She then asked what I wanted to drink, if I wanted a menu, then brought my drink and took my order. I ordered eggs basted; they were not - they were sunny side up, over easy. Ordered rye toast; it was slathered with margarine (way too much). Ordered home fries; happy to discover they were served with onions (although if I did not eat fried onions, it would have been an unhappy surprise). Overall: food was greasy; by the time I got out to the car, I was reaching for digestive enzymes, then 2 hours later Tums, then 30 minutes later, baking soda and water. Won't be back. read more

Visited this established and within 15 min of seating ourselves no one ever came to greet or acknowledged us.. not sure if this was race driven or just simple poor customer service . I love the food, but lately the service is not acceptable. The new owner needs to make some changes and see to it that they stick to his plans. I was chatting with the person sitting at the barstool who was the new owner. Sad what this place has become. This USED to be my husband and my weekend breakfast place. Then the waitresses changed a couple of years ago. I think the previous waitresses were there for like 10 years. I was sitting at a booth and there was a man a few booths down who got up and was making his way up to the register to pay as the waitress goes to his table to pick up her tip. She loudly said "Oh he left a dollar, well you can keep it since you must need it more than me" I was shocked. The man did not turn around and he was older so not sure if he heard the rude comment. The register is up on the counter. He was standing at one end paying while the rude waitress was at the other end of the counter now asking the other waitress "Here you want this, its a whole dollar" we were mortified and haven't went back for about a year. Today our normal spot was crowded, there was a wait and it was a rainy day so we decided to head over to Jo-Jo's. We got in and sat down. We had to get our own menu, the waitress comes and we place our order. She noticed we had no silverware and said she would bring us some. I ordered over easy eggs with grits and sausage along with lightly toasted dry rye. I even said it twice. She brings out the toast with the food and asked if it was ok because she knew it was not lightly toasted. I would have said yes but it was swimming in fake butter. I like to cut up my eggs and mix in my grits and make it almost like a sandwich. We still had no silverware but she brought that to us right away after we had to ask again once she put the food and check down. Well I ate the sausage, she took other orders, delivered drinks and delivered other tables food. My husband and step daughter had already finished their food and at this point my eggs were cold when she finally brought the toast 30 minutes later. I told her I ate the sausage but my eggs were now cold and everyone else was already done and please remove it from my bill and just keep the sausage on there. Well the bill was already on the table so when I brought up to register the owner was taking the money. I explained to him what happened and to please remove it from my bill. Instead of apologizing for the obvious mishap on their end he said "Well did you eat any of the grits" really ??? Are you kidding me?? I told him no as I cut up my eggs and mixed the grits into it and like to put on my toast that did not come until almost 30 minutes later. He still over charged me because I thought the total was high and even grabbed a to go menu and the bill should have been about $3 cheaper. Ate here after a procedure at JFK in spite of the only review posted I thought the food was really good and the waitress (I'm sure she was the same one from the other review) was a real hoot. We have been to Jo-Jo's many times. Use to love going for breakfast but the last 2 weekends we have been there and the wait staff is horrible. Food is still good as it has always been but the waitress need some training. 2 weeks ago we were eating and the waitress decided she couldn't wait for us to finish eating and reached across our table to get the sugar bowl to refill it. Her hair was hanging across the food not to mention her arm pit was in my face. Last weekend we thought we would try it again. This time the waitress brought our food and when she gave my husband his plate there was gravy on the bottom of his plate. I mentioned it to her and she replied with " I did the best I could do". Really, she couldn't take a napkin and wipe off the bottom of the plate so he didn't get gravy on his shirt. Won't be going back there until they hire new waitress's. read more

This review is particularly difficult to do. I'll 1st say that the food was actually pretty good. However due to other actions. I couldn't enjoy my breakfast. The 1st thing I noticed after I was seated was the waitress. She had the kind of look that you don't want around your food. She was apparently responsible for the toast. She was using her bare hands to put in and take out toast. She let that station to handle money and came back without washing. She scratched her head using her nails and continued handling the toasts. Ok should have left then but I didn't.
