What do you do when you don't get your way, cant win the argument you started, your concern is not valid enough to prevail in a contractor complaint and nobody is around to witness your tantrum??? Exaggerate your version of the story online... One of these people didn't know roofing nails were supposed to go through the plywood and insisted something was wrong, they made some calls... then called me back desperately trying to find something else to complain about but as that proved to be a challenge the call ended with one of the parties mad enough to post a review. The other person didn't like that the door from the door company allowed water to enter the shed. Good thing I didn't install the door or hire the door company, then maybe I would have to correct it for free. So a fall and winter goes by and they need someone to blame, they call the door guy first and he don't say what they want so there is only one other guy to try and blame... me... I said call the door guy. And that phone call ended with one of the parties mad enough to write a review. I have built around 300 sheds since 2006 and have finally got 2 negative reviews in the last year. I have finally started saying NO when I need to and some people cant handle that. It takes some effort to write a review so it takes some vengeance to properly motivate one to follow through. The other 297 were not as motivated I guess. The credit card thing is ridiculous, nobody ever heard anything of a fraud investigation, nobody lost there job, everything is spelled out clearly and they knew exactly what was going on... Its not like I just woke up that morning and made up a new policy to try out on them. Last week I had a guy order a shed and when I met him he mentioned the reviews he read, he said after reading them he knew I was his kinda guy... needless to say it was cool to work with him and we got along well. read more

I'll preface this review by saying that the shed I got from Justin serves its purpose. It's not horrible. But he has been pretty much the worst contractor I've worked with in the past several years (that's somewhere between 10 and 20). He's a bad communicator and sloppy in his work. I paid $1300 for a custom lean-to shed with cedar shake, and it ended up with a door that didn't hang correctly and was constructed with corner boards and casings of plain hem/fir 2x4s. I was wrong in my assumption that in paying almost twice as much as he charges for a standard shed, I would get some cedar trim and casing, but the casing's basically framing. Put butt hinges straight onto framing and your doors probably won't hang right. The worst part was that he left it that way, left pretty much all waste materials on site, and then got mad at me when I asked whether he could come back to fix the door. Stay away. My neighbors bought a pre-fab cedar shed online, and it looks 100% better and cost only slightly more. read more

Let's start with unauthorized use of my credit card. I gave Justin my card information to pay the agreed price for the shed. Much to my surprise, a few days later a charge for nearly a $1000 was made at Home deport. As I was not expecting that, I started a fraud investigation. Turns out, Justin had presented my card number to a cashier he was familiar with and charged the materials for our shed. As that is expressly against Home depot policy I'm pretty sure that individual lost their job. When I confronted Justin about it he defended his actions and said he's done it several times before and no on else has ever had a problem with it. Justin eventually provided a reciept for the materials and the overall charge was what we had agreed to but that's not an acceptable business practice. The shed, for the most part is good construction. There are a some areas that we weren't completely satisfied with but overall it's a nice shed. The problem came in when it started raining over the winter. We weren't using the shed yet as we had partially insulated and put up finished panels on the interior walls. It was just too cold and wet to be working outside so we waited until early spring. We were also waiting for our electrician to come back and finish the electical. The shed hadn't been opened in a couple of months and when we went out there we found there was a puddle of standing water in one of the corners by the door. Water had already soaked up into the insulation and finish panel on one wall. The initial problem we noticed was the ramp had been built too high. It was about 3/8's inch higher than the threshold of the door. Rain would collect on the threshold and run underneath the corner of the door. We contacted Justin as soon as we found this out. He wasn't interested in the information. Said it wasn't his problem since someone else installed the roll-up door. We tried to explain, the problem isn't the door, it seals just fine. But it doesn't make a tight enough seal to keep a pool of trapped water from running under the door. My husband even sent him pictures. He said he would call back but never did. After another week passed and my husband was consistently going out there and mopping up water and running a heater he had a friend come over and look at it. My husband is handicapped so he is not able to inspect and remedy the situation himself. Using a level, they found the shed was one and a half inches lower in the rear. That was contributing to the problem. I called Justin myself and explained what was going on. He was immediately defensive and said (this is a quote) "I would rather go through some sort of litigation than come over and rebuild the ramp". I told him we don't need it rebuilt, it just needs to be shaved down and maybe put some sort of sealant on the threshold. I explained to him that although we can think of the solution, due to my husband's physical condition, we are unable to accomplish the necessary adjustments ourselves. At that point Justin agreed to come over and take care of the ramp "in the next couple days". That was three weeks ago. Obviously he has no interest in taking care of it. My husband had to enlist the help of friends to come over, jack the rear of the shed up by two inches and shim it up with two by fours. As the shed is no longer so low in the back the water problem has gotten better but it's not 100%. The upper edge of the ramp still needs to be shaved down by 3/8's inch so the water can no longer collect there with heavy rain. During the building process, Justin and his assistant were late every day. Neither did call to communicate when they would be showing up. What was supposed to be completed in two days turned into four. Justin's helper did most of the work and he stayed until 7:00 the night the shed was completed. So don't let Justin fool you into thinking he builds every shed himself, he definately does not. Overall very unprofessional and a horrible communicator. I would not recommend his services. read more

Justin and his crew did a fantastic job on my 6X12' lean to shed. It's now a real focal point in my yard. My backyard is a hill and he built it on the top without any complaints (a lot of trips up and down during building). One cool thing about him is he was willing to use some windows I had where other shed builders said they were not willing to use any customer provided materials. Pictures online are wonderful. Product is slightly less, if you read on. First the positives: we really love it and it is very attractive very available up front; stayed true to the pricing; actually added another window and framed the french doors, rather than one front door (we purchased ALL windows and a set of antique french doors); framing and cuts were very well done; leveled the area so the shed would be nice and square; looks to us better than a Tough Shed. Things to work on: 1) took his final pay BEFORE finishing with the entire shed-a no-no in anyone's book; 2) poor communicator-days went by without seeing anyone and at one point-before all was accomplished we heard nothing for over a week. Finally had to contact him. He basically claimed he was done, but hadn't finished the trim on the front doors nor painting the body of the shed; 3) used OUR paint, rather than as in the quote, where he stated he provided the paint-when questioned he argued that he had put in extra window/one door. Sort of, but those were up front, not really extra. No point arguing. I finished painting the shed, put up the door knobs and latches and rehung the front doors to eliminate a big gap left-not because the doors were old and off kilter, but because the opening was over 1" too wide. I purchased two 3/4" slats, took the doors off, nailed them on and mounted the doors back on. Perfect fit and I can now lock the shed! Overall, I did at least 6 hours of work he should have done with his crew. I would recommend the crew and company if you are certain you use a check to pay WHEN finished, since it is a really good product. Communication skills need some fine tuning though..... read more

it sounds like Josh got upset when JM shed did not run out and alter a door for free or the neighbor got a cheaper shed elsewhere. whatever the case may be its no secret that people love posting negative stuff about a company when they want to do damage to it. it requires some motivation to post at all and a satisfied person is less likely to post given the energy it requires. of all the sheds I have seen in jmshed's photo album the doors all seem to be the same style and trim boards are consistent. go to jmshed.com and look in the photo album to see if you can tell what cedar shingle shed josh is describing, you might find that josh is over exaggerating in an attempt to hurt. I like the work jmshed does. I like the guy, he is a great carpenter and a close friend. it is to be expected that someone will complain eventually, I think he has been building sheds exclusively for 8 years and does about 1 a week average. you cant make everyone happy read more
