When we first walked in, it was busy and we heard the hostess tell the couple in front of us they would need to wait over an hour for a table - Lucky for me my wife made reservations and we were seated immediately! It was a bit on the noisy side but not so bad we couldn't have a conversation. Our servers, Thomas, was fantastic start to finish with good recommendations, attentive service without being overbearing, and a great personality. Good staff make a business shine! We started with glasses of wine and were impressed with how generous they poured. Perhaps it was a visual illusion, but they felt like very large glasses of wine and made it feel like a very good value. They have a good selection of wines to choose from along with a full bar. Appetizer was the Crab Cake Egg Rolls, something I don't think I've seen anywhere else. They're cooked in Beef Tallow which gave a very savory flavor and crispy texture. They were a bit on the oily side but overall flavor was delicious, and I really liked the dipping sauce which was like a very herb-heavy tartar sauce. For entrees, my wife had the Filet and I had a New York Strip. I don't have the words to describe how delicious and perfectly prepared both of these were. I didn't even bother asking for steak sauce because the perfectly tender and seasoned steak didn't need it. Nobody wants to pay high prices for a steak and receive something low quality, and I was thrilled with the quality of the steaks here. Surrounding tables likewise had great looking meals and I overheard them voicing pleasure too. As sides go, the baked potatoes and salads were excellent too. I got the hot bacon vinegarette dressing and was surprised it was actually served quite hot. It had a really rich and slightly tangy flavor that was unique and I really enjoyed on my salad. I have no complaints here and will absolutely be back. Of course it's on the pricey end, but this is the type of establishment you reserve for a special night out, not your average Tuesday night. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed!

To be fair none of us ordered steak... at a steakhouse, so that could have been our issue. Our server was really friendly and attentive. We did have a small mishap and one friend's meal was forgotten and came out late, but the atmosphere was so pleasant and we were enjoying chatting so it was easy to overlook. Don't leave without ordering the cream corn. Just trust us.

Don't let their small, intimate space and simple menu fool you - these dishes are absolutely packed full of flavor. We went here for our annual Christmas Eve eve dinner with friends and now we've already planned another girls night! Firstly I wasn't expecting the dishes to be as massive as they were. These are definitely shareable plates. Secondly the flavor coming out of these dishes is unmatched. The pork schnitzel with the beer cream sauce is one to remember. Also the perfectly seasoned and cooked ribeye stood out. Oh, and don't forget the octopus appetizer. I'll get that again and again. Not to mention service was impeccable. I can't wait to return in a few weeks to try their spring menu and hopefully dine in their patio!

Highly recommend the crispy frites. Wow - the best fries I think I've ever had at a restaurant. I also love the fact that they use local vendors as much as possible! You can never go wrong with Bobby Boy Bakeshop goodies. The only downside was the parking and the fact that the restaurant is in a corporate building. I think it hurts the ambience, but the food and service are definitely still worth coming for.

This is in the heart of downtown Winston so parking is pretty limited but there are street spots and garages nearby. Service was good, prompt and friendly. We enjoyed a variety of cocktails and wines for beverages. Entree orders included steaks/filets, gnocchi and the fried chicken. The courses were paced nicely, giving us time to savor each bite and engage in great conversation. I really liked the Caesar salad with the fried artichoke and my filet was cooked medium as requested. The Mac and cheese side was delicious too, thick cheesy and super satisfying. I had some of my friends charred Brussels sprouts too and those were tasty as well. All in all, we were all happy with this pick! We cleared our main plates and sadly did not have room for dessert- next time! Gratuity is included (I assume it starts at parties of 6 or more). @azfitfoodfun

A friendly server brought us water and we were able to order drinks and appetizers. The restaurant on the ground floor was not large but it was very nice looking and modern. There is an upstairs that we didn't see. The waiting area is large which is nice because I imagine at time there is a wait. It is an upscale place though you saw a variety in patrons there. Anyway, we ordered the pot roast nachos and a cup of the soup du jour which came very quickly. Both were excellent and a great start to the meal. Someone decided to bring us bread that we didn't order which was nice. It was probably a good thing the server spilled the water at our table and gave us the bread for free since we didn't order it. again, anyway, the entrees came and they looked good. Seafood risotto was cooked well, not over done. And there was a lot of it. The fried chicken was also nicely cooked. Both were under seasoned and needed salt which is not my favorite when in a restaurant such as this. However, it is also understandable. Once we were done, our server informed us that they were treating us to dessert (because it was our anniversary) and brought us their warm brown with ice cream. It was delicious. We scraped the plate clean. It was a lovely meal and lovely evening.

The attire is business casual or totally upscale as you prefer. This time I came here for a seminar. Their were around 50 attendees so we were seated in the back room on the 3rd level. This is an absolute stellar, caring and accommodating staff starting with the reception people to the amazing servers. I have rarely experienced such hard working, special waitstaff that really care for the comfort of their guests. The food was quite wonderful. We started off w shrimp cocktail shared around the table due to lack of room and so as not to interrupt the meeting. After shrimp appetizer our next dish was a delicious crab dip. Next came the Caesar salad a very simple dish not like the famous salad much lighter in taste. It was just okay. The main dish I selected was filet, medium, if you like your steak med rare this is for you I prefer mine cooked just a tad more done. Nonetheless it was delicious and so tender! The dessert was cheesecake or triple chocolate. Im not big on either of the 2 desserts but they included it w the meal so I selected the Cheesecake to take home; it was plain and unadorned. Can't complement the staff enough they made sure all 50 of us had our food quickly, still warm and efficiently served like a well oiled machine. There were smiles on their.faces and no hint of stress or anxiety just excellent service. I was very impressed. The only thing I don't like is the stairs to the different dining areas. It's a little challenging especially if you've had a cocktail. This is part of the construction due to the slanted topography. If it wasn't as such you wouldn't be able to see the romantic view of the forest all lit up below. It's a great place for dinner so zip in, there's plenty of parking!

Welcome to the next installment of the quarterly bonus dinner series. After receiving excellent…read morerecommendations from the renowned Meena P, my group decided to switch it up and venture to Winston-Salem for dinner. OpenTable made dinner reservations a breeze as we were easily able to snag a table for 6 at 7:30pm a week in advance. With The Katharine being downtown, parking can sometimes be a challenge. The menfolk were gentlemanly enough to drop the ladies off at the door and park the car themselves. After our group was fully assembled, we were seated promptly. I'm not drinking at the moment, so I sadly wasn't able to partake in the craft cocktails The Katharine is known for. However, I did enjoy an alcohol alternative, Evergreen N/A (seedlip, thyme lavender syrup, lemon juice, soda water). It was a nice, light, citrusy beverage. We also shared some appetizers together. We ordered the Oeuf Mimosa (deviled egg, caviar, microgreens), Escargot á la Bourguogne (garlic herb butter, cognac, red wine reduction, puff pastry), Roquette Salade (baby arugula, baby kale, shaved parmesan, toasted pine nuts, lemon vinaigrette, balsamic reduction, cracked pepper), and Gratinèe Soupe à l'Oignon (croute, aged gruyere, chive). The deviled eggs were delicious as expected, which was no surprise, as they are known for them. I would have liked to know that the order only came with 4 egg halves since we had a group of 6. We would've ordered two if we had known, since they're not the easiest things to split. It was also funny to see the table "fighting" over eating every last pine nut on the salad plate. For our entrees, everyone at the table tried to order something different from the menu so we could fully experience it. We were mostly successful, as the only repeat was the Boeuf Bourguignon (braised beef short rib, cipollini onion, wild mushroom, brussels sprout leaves, pomme puree, red wine sauce). The Bourguignon had a nice sweetness to the sauce that balanced the dish's saltiness. I ordered the Saumon et Gruau de Mais (seared salmon, stone ground grits, smoked garlic buttermilk sauce, black lemon, chervil, chili oil). The salmon crust was so flavorful and well seasoned, and the grits were voted the best side by the table for being nice and creamy without being too heavy. Other entrees that were ordered included Truite Meuniere (North Carolina trout, haricot verts, parsnips, chili-almond crunch, brown butter, lemon), Steak Frites (8 oz Brasstown Farms flat iron steak, truffled parmesan pomme frites, beurre de fete), and Steak au Poivre (12 oz pepper crusted NY strip steak, sauce au poivre, pomme puree, brussels sprouts). Both of the steaks were cooked beautifully. Playing musical chairs with each other's food was probably my favorite part of the night. I highly recommend doing this with your friends! Last but certainly not least, we decided to share some desserts to round out the evening. We ordered the Bittersweet Chocolate Pot de Crème (dark chocolate, torched marshmallow meringue, toasted graham crumb, chocolate ganache), Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee (organic Tahitian vanilla bean custard with burnt sugar), and Banana Pain Perdu (croissant bread pudding, caramelized banana, vanilla bean ice cream, banana chips, salted rum caramel). All of the desserts were stunning, and the banana bread pudding was my personal favorite. The rest of the table was fighting over the pot de crème. The Katharine was spectacular and delivered on everything I hoped for in a nice dinner with good friends. I definitely recommend checking it out!

We had dinner reservations at 8:30 our evening there, our host greeted us and seated us within a couple minutes the place was packed. The interior of the restaurant is 1930s art deco, think "Metropolis" and inspired by the original design of the building. The restaurant itself is not very big and gets busy, when full it is also loud. Dinner was very good, the service professional and attentive. The food was good but not exceptional and at the price point, it should be. A dozen oysters on the half shell, were a good start. My entree was good, however very basic in thought and presentation. Trout, nicely cooked with green beans on top, then shaved carrots. Nothing new or original. The Salmon my partner ordered was even simpler in its presentation. Again nothing inventive or original. The food was good but at the price point one expects it to be great. Breakfast, is walk in service, it is as well busy or was on the two mornings we ate there. A different experience overall, more rushed and noisy. The food was okay, but nothing special or beyond ordinary. When breakfast is $30 bucks or more each it needs to be great, this was okay to average. Then with the slow turn around on our order from the kitchen, almost half an hour to get eggs, sort of a let down. The second morning was better as far as timing goes, the food was again okay but nothing special. 3.5 Stars rounded up for the dinner service staff's effort 01132
