What a great little burger and beer joint. Modern box exterior hides a cozy pub inside. When you walk through the door you are greeted by a bar on the left side that runs about halfway down. Booths and tables on the right then beyond the bar you have more tables. They even have an enclosed outdoor seating area at the back for the good days and nights. The beer selection is pretty good. We even found a nice lingonberry gose to take home in a growler. The burgers are delicious and we enjoyed their fresh made chips as well. The pretzel was pretty good too with a crisp buttery crust that kept me going back for more. The extra find was their fresh made peanut butter. JL burger, hands down the best burger I have ever ordered when eating out and time after time continues to be. Variety of different drinks every week also makes it a great experience to come for a weekly lunch/dinner to try new things out. I've been 10+ times and have always had great service at all 3 Fargo locations. Seating options are cozy but don't feel crowded at all, especially for a bar. If you haven't been you have to go. I came here for an early dinner. It looked like a fairly new restaurant. It was all by itself on one side of the block. I was seated immediately and ordered their classic burger with first a Junkyard Coachgun IPA. I followed that up with a Fargo Mighty Red. I also sampled a few other local beers. The waiter had me sample two other beers that he thought I would like. They were a Southern Tier 2xone and Rush River Double Bubble. They were both good beers. I preferred the Southern Tier. The burger was decent but pretty plain. I might want to try something else on their menu besides the classic burger before I write off their food. Their beer selection was pretty good, so I would definitely want to come back here for a beer or two. read more

I love all the JL Beers locations. What I like most about this 32 Ave S location is the ease of getting here, especially for someone like me who lives in South Fargo. This is especially handy with take out orders. I've done more take out here than I've actually gone in and sat down. The prices are so good for food this tasty. Our take out order from the weekend included 3 burgers (one of them was a double patty) and an order each of the chips and fries - and it came to about $20. Speaking of chips, they are outstanding. I would almost always take the chips over the fries, especially if ordering take out (the fries get soggy on the drive home). Not saying I don't get the fries on occasion, but those chips are good. Visiting Fargo on a business trip and wanted to try a brewery local to the area. I had a chicken sandwich and the loaded fries with jalapeño ranch. All the food was awesome and I had two different pints and a dark beer flight. One of my coworkers had another burger and a sour beer flight along with a few other local beers. OK....someone at JL Beers has been monitoring my dreams. How do I know? 1) Not Just A Nutter Burger - Fresh peanut butter, red pepper jelly, diced jalapeños, pepperjack cheese and cottage bacon. I needed a good burger after walking out of another burger joint in Fargo due to a complete lack of service. Yes, I'll admit that I was driving aimlessly in and in a foul mood when low and behold....a JL Beers sign. I didn't realize they had a location in south Fargo but there is was. Now I'll admit that I've had some issues with JL Beers in the past, at least at other locations. For one thing, it still annoys me that I can't get a damn glass of ice water. But still, this was a sign from above so pulled in and sidled up to the bar. When I asked about the new Nutter Burger the bartender said "it's pretty good if you can get past the peanut butter". WHAT? Get past it? That the main reason I want it moron. So order I did, along with a tall Deschutes Black Butte Porter (another company that gets me) and an order of buffalo blu chips....or so I thought. Burger and chips arrived in no time. But the chips...WTF? There was lettuce and tomatoes and onions and blue cheese and...and...and RANCH. My head might have actually spun around. Who in the hell puts ranch on chips? If there isn't a law against it there should be. So I fought through the fog of confusion in brain and summoned the beer tender. "Those are the BLT Blu chips, like you ordered". Damn it...yes, it was now coming back to me. I had glanced at the menu and accidentally ordered exactly what I was looking at - the new BLT Blu chips, not the incredibly tasty Buffalo Blu Chips. I was crushed. The beer slinger, on the other hand, seemed indifferent although he did add "ya, I don't like ranch either". Yes, I know, it was my mistake. But the complete lack of concern on his part did surprise me. Anyway, the day was saved by the burger. It was everything I could have ever asked for in a burger - well cooked, fresh bun, thick bacon, nice spicy kick and some absolutely amazing peanut butter. How amazing? I left with a 16 oz container. It was still warm from the grinder. My only regret is that I didn't get two. Two burgers and two peanut butters. Next time I'll be smarter. Ok... for a dude who travels all the time, my host told me I HAD to come in and get a Humpty Dumpty (pictured). It's a burger with American Cheese and a fried egg. I decided to add jalapeños, grilled onions and tomato. As a side, I through the Buffalo Blue chips in for the fun. I drank the Brain Wash IPA and then closed with the Vanilla Porter. What a fantastic evening. The staff made me feel right at home. Maybe it's the small town-ness, maybe it's the beer but I ended up having a great conversation with the two waitresses and then a local who comes in every evening after work. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I would come back again any time I am in need of a great burger and some goodness. I recommend this place if you ever on the hunt for some good people and some great chow. Nothing that will blow your mind but it will definitely hit the spot. JL Beers is a must stop in Fargo. Their pretzel appetizer is something you will dream about in nights to come. They have a great beer menu and flight options which I find super fun! I love the atmosphere and could not speak more highly about the service I received. My fiance got called into work just after we put in our order. We were scrambling not knowing what to do since we just settled in and finished our appetizer. The staff gladly changed our order to a to go order, I was able to drop my fiancé off at work (since it was really that urgent), and come back to grab our to go order. The helpfulness of the staff I was beyond impressed with. I felt so flustered but the staff response being so relaxed and helpful made everything go so smoothly. Can't wait to go to JL Beers again! Hands down, my go to place to get a great burger in the FM area, and you can't beat the price of $4-$6 per burger! Service is quick and friendly every time too. My favorite is the 32nd Avenue burger, which comes with bacon, cheese, BBQ sauce, and BBQ seasoning - with an add-on of grilled onions. Chips and fries are made to order - my favorites are the shoe string fries (you can also get steak fries) or the chips, with Cajun seasoning. They also have options for flava town as well, such as their beer cheese dip and their jalapeno cheddar seasoning. Excellent selection of beers as well, and on Wednesdays, this location pours out a beer that they specially infused for the week! Let's start with the good: it's a simple beer and burger joint that is a bit fancy but they do their job well. Best selection of beer I've found on this business trip and a damn fine burger! Where they can improve is: 1) engage your customers and visit a bit with people. We sat two at the bar on a Tuesday night that wasn't busy at all (only 6 other guests in a place that can seat 100). A little dialogue never hurt anyone. 2) explain that your "dips" are extraordinary large servings ( don't order the dips use ketchup instead) and 3) make your hand cut fries memorable and crispy. They were drenched in grease and totally soggy. Was told the other option was frozen fries - quite the up sell. Overall I would return, order a burger to go and drink a beer while I wait. read more

Their beer selection changes at least once a month and they always have a vast selection of Tap beers. Their burgers are made to order as well as their chips (their chips are so good I've not tried the fries so i cannot comment on those).
