Lexie did an incredible job with my Husky/Samoyed puppy. Tonka's coat is extremely thick and difficult to work with and she looks so beautiful now. I'm hesitant to write this review given the aggressive, condescending, and patronizing responses Dave often leaves to even slightly critical reviews, but it's clear Dave and JK Grooming care more about their reputation than the safety of their customers' pets. We've taken our dog to JK Grooming four or five times in the past year. The first time or two were fantastic; he received a great cut, and we were very satisfied. In September 2020, however, he got violently ill about 12-18 hours after we picked him up. He vomited repeatedly and had bloody diarrhea. After he spent the night at the vet, the veterinarian concluded it could well have been something he was exposed to at JK Grooming--something he ingested, perhaps. Further, COVID protocols seem to be at most an afterthought, as not one employee wore their masks properly. We gave JK Grooming the benefit of the doubt and took our dog back in November 2020 but, again, he got sick soon after--though thankfully he didn't need to go to the vet. Again, we thought perhaps it wasn't the groomer's fault, and we returned last week. This time, we picked up our dog, and he had been shaved so closely on his scrotum that the skin is raw. (Pictures attached.) It is abundantly clear that the groomer was negligent and at fault. Of course, no one mentioned anything when we picked him up. Our dog is miserable and will yet again have to go to the vet because of the carelessness at JK Grooming. read more

So, first and foremost, "Dave B" likely attack me for this review. It is his tactic to respond to negative reviews to reduce the effect on review weighting on Yelp. What makes a true evaluation is the experience of the customer, not the indignant response from the owner who doesn't own the failure to satisfy their customers. In addition, look at the actual reviews on this account. Many of the 5 star reviews are one-review reviewers, out of area. Many of the others are reviews that only have one or two reviews, most is which are out of area. Think about it, would you take your dog to get groomed if you don't live in a city??? Now, to my review. They stink. I have a beautiful mini schnauzer and in 4 visits they shaved her twice when I scheduled groomings in three-week intervals. She is a trained comfort dog. She came home every time shivering. The last time I sent her treats and instructions on how to relax her. They didn't even give her a single treat. Every time I brought her home she spent two days under a bed, hiding and traumatized. I assume they just put her on a chair and shaved her. And the cost? I paid at least $100 a visit. Once I even gave the groomer $50 cash because he complained about her. It is all a lie. Never, never, never take your dog here. Why would you charge $100 to shave a 18 lbs dog to her bone? read more

This place is HORRIBLE! If you love your dog, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO JK Grooming. This place was recommended by my vet who takes her German Shepard there for grooming. I made the appointment and asked for an experienced grooming who is good with big dogs/ German Shepard's. I arrived and the staff was very hesitant about taking my dog Zeus. I offered to leave but was asked to stay but it seemed like the groomer was scared of my dog. It seemed like she was UNCOMFORTABLE/ HATED big dogs and clearly, she did. 30mins later I was asked to pick him because he wasn't allowing the groomer to dry him. I was asked to pay by the phone before being informed that my dog was towel dried. However, my poor dog was soaking wet and water was dripping from his belly. I asked for towels and dried him myself in the lobby. When I asked to talk to the manager, this red hair guy freaked out on me and argued that my dog was towel dried. My dog would get groomed in Nebraska without any issued. But would let anyone dry him? He is a big baby and loves people. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH GROOMERS WHO ARE UNCOMFORTABLE/HATE BIG DOGES. read more

Once we finally got our pup in, they were rude, inconsiderate, and refused to groom our dog unless we would allow them to shave him because they said he was matted. He was very slightly matted and we were able to take care of it ourselves at home. This was a huge inconvenience for us and I will never go back. I've lived in Denver before in LoDo so am not just new to the city & used JK Grooming many times before. Jackpot is a difficult dog to groom, has been turned down many times over the years, & sometimes come back incomplete. He's just a 17 pound poodle mix rescue & is a sweetheart, but gets shook w groomers. I tried a different groomer since was close to my new condo & not only did Jackpot look terrible, he was terrified for a couple days before he got over the experience. I decided to go back to JK Grooming since we had a great rhythm before & so glad I did. We got the same groomer that we had last time we lived here. Lolli is a superstar! Yesterday, this was a shelter-dog in with painful matting all over her body. Today, Pearl is a comfortably groomed cutie, relaxing in her new home! I can't even believe that the folks at JK grooming were able to squeeze her into their super-booked schedule. They did an AMAZING job. While they could not bathe her because she's just been spayed, but they took incredible care to protect her incision site and took off all of the crazy matted mess. This was my first and will be my last experience with JK grooming. I brought my cat in for a "lion-cut" due to some matting of her fur. I was told that if she was difficult to work with, a second groomer would help- which was totally fine with me. They called when she was ready and the exact words were, "it doesn't look good, but she's ready to be picked up". When I picked her up, the groomer had the pile of her matted fur sitting on top of my cats carrying case. She brought it to the front desk and showed it to me, and thus everyone in the waiting room. She held it up in the air and told me that the fur was matted..yes..hence my appointment at the groomers. I felt like she was trying to make me feel bad for letting her fur get to that condition. She was rude and condescending. To top it off. The haircut looks HORRIBLE. PLEASE LOOK AT THE PHOTOS!!! So unacceptable. This cost me $90+tip...it was $90 bc two groomers had to be used (my cat was not cooperative). Two professionals worked on my cat and she still looked liked this in the end. This review is long overdue, as I have loved JK Grooming since the first time I brought my labradoodle in for a haircut more than a year ago. Lolli was recommended to us by two other doodle owners and it was immediately obvious why. She is understanding, easy to work with and very patient, even with my timid, skittish pup who hates having her hair brushed. Every time I picked my dog Ziggy up, she was happy and looked amazing! They don't keep the dogs in cages before/after grooming, they let them roam and interact with other dogs, so I honestly think Ziggy enjoyed being there. Lolli was always amazing about understanding the look we wanted for our dog and even called me once after I dropped my dog off to let me know she recommended cutting off a bit more, since she didn't want me to be surprised when I picked my dog up. That shows how much she cares. JK Grooming is also very transparent and consistent with their pricing. Thank you again, Lolli and all of the friendly staff I've met, for taking such good care of Ziggy and making me feel comfortable leaving her in your care. We brought Ziggy there every five to six weeks for a wash & trim, only stopping when we moved out of state. :( Needless to say, our new groomer has some very big shoes to fill! read more

Our pup Wally seemed to have a great experience at JK Grooming! I dropped him off a few minutes early for a 10:15 appointment and was greeted right away by the very friendly staff! I filled out just a bit of paperwork and informed them that my boyfriend would be coming to pick him up after his appointment, which was fine with them. This was his first grooming appointment, so I was a bit nervous about how he'd react to the whole experience, but he didn't seem to have any problem with me leaving and looked like he instantly made friends with the other dogs behind the counter. I really appreciated that when I made the appointment, the gentleman I spoke with said they'd take extra time to make sure he was comfortable during the whole process since it was his first time and just over three months old. Despite all the handling work/paw work we've been doing, I was nervous he wouldn't react well to having his nails trimmed, but everyone at JK Grooming made me feel very comfortable leaving him there. Wally has a fairly fluffy/long coat and they did a great job getting him all cleaned up. He had a lot of extra long hair growing between his paw pads and he almost instantly looked more comfortable after they got it all taken care of. He smelled wonderful after the appointment as well! I love that the dogs play together when they're not being groomed - our pup came home tired and handsome, a great combo for a young pup. When we picked our doodle up we noticed several nicks on his ears and one large one about one inch wide when we got home. We were asked to sign a waiver but there was no mention of him being cut. One of the guys from inside JK saw my pup Yogi through the window and came out to give us their card and we are so glad that he did. We did his first groom at 4 months old and have had him in about every 4 weeks since the . Yogi is a 7 1/2 month old Merle bernedoodle and he always gets compliments thanks to the wonderful job Renee does on him. We love that the dogs are taken one at a time by appt with their specific groomer so the dogs never sit in cages. I've gone in 4 times to get my now 8 month old dog nails clipped and filed. The first two times with Samantha were great, but the past two times with Hailey she's called and said my dog was ready to pick up. The first time with Hailey she was able to clip my dogs nails but not file them, which is fine and not a big deal. The second time with Hailey she called and said my dog was ready, then when I came by I was told that neither clippings or filing was done. It seemed like they were disorganized and didn't really care. They didn't communicate well and didn't seem very kind. If you have a nervous dog I wouldn't recommend going here. read more

People stop me regularly and ask me where I have Bowie groomed. I love that JK Grooming has a no-kennel policy, and the dogs get to roam freely while they wait. I took two poodles there. First they did not do what we discussed which is cutting their hair short. However, they shaved the hair to the bone. In the process, they hurt one of our poodle with cuts on his belly which they refuse to acknowledge. This is the second day now and the dogs have been scared out of their minds. They have been trembling constantly, and one of them has even thrown up several times and is refusing to eat. This has never happened before. I'm not sure what they did to them in there. Paid $80 to get a 7lb puppy shaved and injured (picture included). JK grooming is not the place for you if your dog has any knots in his/her hair, they will just shave him without telling you. I would only take a dog there who barely just needs a touch up or a bath for a really high price. I have been a scientist for the past 8 years, with a bachelor's and PhD in biochemistry and chemistry, and the groomer at JK grooming told me that they shaved my dog because scientifically it was a good idea to shave him when its freezing outside because he will be warmer this way. WHAT? They also had injured my and dog badly (photos included) and put him back with other dogs regardless of the fact that his wound might get infected. Thank you JK grooming, but science is probably not your strongest suit, and it seems like, unfortunately, neither is grooming as you injured my dog, shaved him when it's freezing outside and told me that I didn't deserve an apology for being upset at my dog's maltreatment (please read below the comment from Dave, the owner of JK grooming). You are also right that my dog deserves better, which is why we won't be returning. And I don't think anyone should remain calm after receiving their voiceless puppy abused by the groomer. I am SO guilty for taking my dogs to JK grooming, because I fell for their 5 stars and didn't bother reading the comments from people who had given one stars as their dogs had suffered EXACTLY like mine. I am a person of facts, so please read the other one stars and you will see the same incidence: JK grooming shaves peoples dogs without their permission if the dog has any knots, then injures them due to mishandling or rushing, and then blames the people for it by lying that injuries were already there. Come on, multiple people can't possible be stupid as you want them to seem JK grooming. I wish I had also read the rude responses to those people from Dave at JK grooming, and I would've never trusted a person who was personally attacking people (Dave dragged in a customer's 12 year old in one star review below mine) after injuring their dogs. But maybe my review will save your dog. If a person can't be kind to other human beings, do you think he is capable of handling your precious baby? I don't think so either, and I wouldn't want to find out through experience. I wish I had taken my time to read through cries of mistreated clients, and JK grooming's rude responses. My dog had knots in his hair, and two weeks ago I had taken 8 hours with lots of breaks, treats, and patience to untangle each knot so I wouldn't hurt him. When it got knotted again in two weeks, I thought I should seek professional help as maybe I was using the wrong detangling spray or something else was wrong. JK grooming injured my dog then went ahead and told me my dogs injuries were hidden under his hair, as you can see in the pictures, all injuries are is places with barely any hair. I promise I would've still paid you if you had just admitted your mistake. My dog is still trembling 3 days after and the vet thinks it's because of mishandling or a harsh handling method used by JK grooming. Same vet who had seen him healthy and happy earlier that same day! JK grooming also thinks that my friend (who they keep referring to as my husband for some reason) and I should only write one response because our dogs were dropped off together. You guys hurt dogs of two different people, they should both get to give you their perspectives. Seems like they only care about their reviews and ratings, not about how people actually left in tears after making the mistake of choosing them. I used to take my dog outside twice everyday, and I can't now because he is shaved, traumatized, and starts trembling even more when I step out. My apologies to my dog (hoping he will stop trembling soon), and sincerest hope that this review will save yours from a similar experience. First Review: I dropped off my little poodle and received an injured poodle back which the groomer had the indecency and audacity to say was already injured when I dropped him off. I know accidents happen and I think the groomer should have at least had the courtesy to admit and apologize. I didn't mind paying $80 just to get my dog shaved, which I'm sure was worth $80 because we all know how tough shaving a dog can be. I regret receiving services at JK Grooming every time I look at my pup. The business was (a) deceptive in terms of providing the services promised, (b) provided a service that was incompetent both in terms of any grooming standard and my explicit requests for a modified service, (c) was negligent in terms of injuring my pet, and (d) the owner was unnecessarily belligerent when approached to request a refund. I cannot recall ever dealing with a business owner or service provider that has left me literally shaking in anger as after my interactions and experience with JK Grooming. I've received grooming from two other businesses with 3 different groomers seeing this same pup with long hair and never had this kind of service, let alone this level of condescension from a business owner of any kind. Disgraceful. Evidence of the above: (A) I was recommended to JK Grooming explicitly for an appointment with a groomer able to do hand stripping of my double-coated Bouvier. When I called for an appointment, the man who set my appointment assured me this service was available with only one groomer in the business and arranged a time accordingly. When I arrived, I had been assigned a groomer who admitted she is not qualified or trained for the service I requested; the groomer I needed had resigned, and the shop made no effort to inform me otherwise. (B) I got a dog back that looks like a sheep in the process of having its wool removed, or a 4-legged mushroom, depending on your perspective. I explicitly did not agree to the cut that was done, and no effort was made at any time during the 3.5 hrs my pet was with this business to inform me that this was necessary and discuss options - even when I stopped by after 2.5 hrs to see her being brushed and was told she would be ready in 30 minutes. (N.B. other groomers provide a complete cut & bath for her in 1.5 hrs.) I discussed extensively with this groomer what I was comfortable with and provided the explicit caveat that the business was to call me to discuss if shearing with clippers was necessary for matting, as my breed should only be scissored to maintain her coat. The cut I received is nowhere near the breed standard, nor any modified standard, nor any other acceptable haircut that could have been construed from my instructions. * The service that JK grooming performed was so incomplete/ incompetent that my dog was not "blown out" to remove the dead undercoat; I brushed out no less than 3 handfuls of hair upon returning home when I should not be able to do so for a week if services were performed correctly. I found mats directly created by the clippering done by JK Grooming. Hair was not cut between her pads/around her paws. The salon uses shampoo with strong artificial chemicals/fragrance when the business advertised they use only "all natural" products, which caused me to become physically ill. (C) The groomer, in her incompetence/haste, is directly responsible for creating cuts to both of my pet's front armpits. I recently saw my typical groomer who explained that this injury is common to thoughtless groomers who do not pay attention to the flaps of skin in the armpits while shearing. I was also told that it was highly unlikely my pet needed to be sheared for matting at all if the dog was able to be brushed out (as I saw occurring when I stopped by). (D) I immediately requested a call to speak to the business owner upon receiving my pet; given that the groomer returning my dog had clearly gone against my direct instructions and saw nothing wrong with the service, I did not see the point of reasoning with her to create a scene/yell/argue about both the quality and price (literally 2x a groom at other specialty grooming salons). I received a return call from one of the business partners, Dave. When I attempted to relay my concerns and my service to request a refund, he repeatedly interrupted me, escalating the volume of his voice to the point that I had to give an ultimatum I would not be yelled at further and would be hanging up if he continued to be rude. He was condescending and dismissive, and at times his statements were outright fabrications, such as there was "evidence" from the owners of the neighboring businesses that I agreed to the cut performed and that it was his groomer's prerogative to give my pet whatever cut they wish (?!). read more

I took my Poochon Macie in for a simple grooming. When I picked her up I left in tears. They not only shaved her down to her skin, they nicked both ears and her head to the point of bleeding. They recommended I take her to a Vet???.....She didn't need to go to a vet when I brought her in. My poor little dog is miserable and looks like a sheared lamb, bleeding and spots everywhere that they missed. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy!
