The test was really fast and I had a good experience but it's located right beside a busy road so depending on when you go, it could be a challenge to pull into or pull out of. Also, it's a very small and tight space, so moving my car around there gave me some anxiety. I have a long car. It cost $55 and took 10 minutes. read more

Do yourself a favor, and go to JJ for your next smog check! I actually went to another STAR smog station down the street from JJ's yesterday, and ended up wishing I'd gone to JJ first. JJ is the type of business owner you just don't run into very often anymore. After the first smog check outfit failed my car because they said they couldn't read the numbers on my catalytic converter, I felt uneasy with their explanation, with how little time they'd taken in the attempt to read the numbers, and with their overwhelmingly unenthusiastic attitude towards customer service. I sought a "second opinion," and ended up at JJ's, just up the street from the first place. JJ was clearly busy, but greeted me promptly and in a friendly manner, and as his only female customer at the time, offered me a place to sit inside his shop (which I thought showed a great deal of class and chivalry). After learning what the shop down the street had told me, JJ mentioned that he couldn't perform the inspection or pass my car (since another STAR station had failed it), but even though I would not be a paying customer at that point, he actually offered to crank my car up on a jack, get underneath it, use a wire brush to clean the catalytic converter, and write down the numbers for me so I could take them to the first shop. I was completely blown away by his generosity and kindness. He absolutely didn't have to do anything of the kind, especially as busy as he was. He repeatedly refused payment for his time (though in the end, I went and got cash, came back and put it in his hand, and told him I absolutely insisted he take it, because this is a guy who completely deserves to be paid for his time and efforts, and rewarded for his amazing kindness and helpfulness). Even assuming that I would not be a paying customer, JJ went to FAR greater lengths to help me, and was much more pleasant in doing so, than the shop down the street. This is just a good guy. I don't know how else to put it. He's honest, hardworking, and obviously has integrity and ethics. 5 stars (and then some!) for JJ!! read more
