Let me start with the good, because it's only fair. My husband and I have eaten at this JJ Fish & Chicken several times, and we've always considered this location the best JJ Fish & Chicken in the McDonough area. We've actually recommended it to others, bragging about how the food is always good, hot, and fresh--and how the service has consistently been pleasant.
That's why what happened today, 4/25/2026 around 5:30 PM, was so disappointing.
We decided to call in our order instead of dining in. When I first called, a young lady answered. I placed my order but realized I said it incorrectly. I apologized and corrected myself, but the call disconnected. I called back--disconnected again. After waiting a few minutes, I finally got through and placed the order.
About 20 minutes later, we arrived to pick it up... and everything changed.
The moment I walked in, I was honestly shocked. The music blasting through the speakers was extremely offensive--loud, vulgar, and filled with constant profanity. I heard repeated cursing, including the "B" word and the "F" bomb, and lyrics that were degrading and disrespectful toward women. It wasn't just background noise--it dominated the entire space. As a customer, it made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.
I tried to stay calm and respectful, but when another song came on with the same level of profanity, I felt I had to say something. I politely asked the young lady behind the counter--twice--if the owner was present. She eventually responded by shaking her head "no."
Shortly after, when my order was called, I asked for an extra bag. The same young lady rolled her eyes at me. That small moment said a lot. It made me question the level of customer service and care at this location.
Then I noticed other things that added to my concern. This store used to be very clean, but today it didn't feel that way. There was hot sauce spilled in the sauce container area, and the customer before me got sauce all over her hands. The employee behind the counter didn't react or assist--she just stood there, completely disengaged.
At that point, I couldn't help but wonder: if the atmosphere and service have changed this much, can I still trust the quality and care put into the food?
Needless to say, this visit was a disappointment. Honestly, thank God we didn't choose to dine in.
And the food? It was just... okay this time. Nothing like what we've come to expect. read more
