For my husband's birthday, he wanted to have an apple fritter taste test. I went to 8 different donut shops in SLC, West Valley, Bountiful etc. JJ's won my family of 5 votes for the best tasting apple fritter. It had the most apples, best flavor, and not too sweet. It was so good! We will be back to try some of their other donuts for sure. The girl behind the counter was also really friendly and kind, so great service as well. read more

Glad they are still around but how? This place must cater to more the corporate accounts which get a set amount of donuts weekly which hopefully gets a better price. - The donuts are expensive for what they are. - If you walk in just due to a craving, you'll be highly disappointed at the selection. For example, I came in on a weekday at 10am, there were only a handful of varieties and only a few of each. I've been by many time after lunch, forget it, pretty much nothing left so a wasted detour. - The $2 donut I recently tried tasted like old cold grease and this is at 10am Like I said in my previous review, this place is a convenience tax, I'd go elsewhere if I had the time. read more

I think I just found one of my new favorite donut shops!!! And I have tried a lot of donut shops, in this state and anywhere I travel. JJ's donuts is so yummy!! And they seem different to me, just a bit more unique than most. (Something about the dough... I'm not sure what it is.) If you're unsure of what to try you won't go wrong with their apple fritters, Boston cream, or glazed rings. The apple fritter was still warm!! It was so full of apple chunks in the best way, it was crisp on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside as they should be. They were sweet and cinnamon-y. I wish I could eat one every day because they are THAT good. The bakery was clean, and nice. The employee was kind and patient. And because it was the day before mothers day they were handing out a long stem rose and a glazed donut with cream and blueberries on top in a separate clam shell. That was so sweet of them and made my day! The taste and quality of JJ's donuts are outstanding and I'll definitely be back. They are really some of the best donuts I've ever had. Solid donuts! The woman working was super nice and helped us out quickly. We came in around noon on a Saturday, so they only had a few left, but we liked what we got! I tried a chocolate raised donut with pecans and an old fashioned, while my partner tried a vanilla raised with cereal and a chocolate cake donut. A hidden gem! We were just driving by and spotted them. It's a small shop and the selection was fine for a Saturday at 11am (most places are sold through by then). Prices were definitely comparable with other shops in SLC (or less) and the quality was MUCH better! The dough is light, fluffy, and not too sweet; borderline perfection. Toppings are great without being too much. Everything we got was truly great but the Fruity Pebbles donut (which I expected to hate) and the Croissant Sticks (something unique here) were truly delicious showstoppers! We loved this so much we ate our first order in the car and went back in for more... Also, the service was great and friendly and it was spotless clean even though it's in a pretty rough looking strip mail. Still a big fan. Bought custom birthday donuts for my wife, and they spelled out "Happy birthday" and her name. Let us pick a color scheme and everything, and they were both very cute and delicious. I will say that after a few more visits we have found that their chocolate donuts aren't our favorite, and we still prefer a nice fresh Dunford chocolate cake donut. But JJ's wins with their regular yeasted dough. And along with the hours being quirky, their assortment also changes frequently. So just because you had something amazing and unique one time, doesn't mean it'll be there next time. read more

Great little donut shop! I've been waiting for this place to open and finally went in a week after they opened. Their donuts were tasty and very light and fluffy! I got three different kinds and enjoyed all of them. They don't have the biggest selection, but I think that's understandable for a small place that is just starting out. I've been excited to have a local donut shop in North Salt Lake. After several months of watching their shop get built out we've now been twice. The branding is a little awkward, DIY, the kind of place where the food quality needs to be way better than their branding if the place is going to succeed. Inside its very basic, very clean, a little sterile but I'm not expecting much from a donut place. There is not much in the way of selection. They open at 6am and I've now been at 7am and 8am and each time it was pretty limited. Raised glazed plain Raised frosted with cereal toppings Raised bars with frosting Apple fritters Some turn overs Nothing cake, nothing sprinkles, no old fashioned, nothing 'signature' The dough quality is the high point. It's definitely a better recipe with better ingredients than most donut places. If you just had the dough alone you'd be able to pick out the soft, lightly sweet flavor, it's very good. But it takes more than dough. 1st visit - we had to ask for raised with chocolate, they had to frost them for us. There was ample frosting, it's milk chocolate (my personal favorite) but it was dripping everywhere. Hot, drippy donuts are good, but in this case it was also an indication of poor organization and planning. On this visit I'd have given a 3, maybe 4 star rating. Great dough, good frosting, bad planning, next to no selection. 2nd visit - I went today planning to get just 1 donut, but couldn't resist getting 2. I immediately noticed the amount of frosting was less than half of what we got last time (again, poor planning, quality control,etc) but it was so tasty I thought maybe it wouldn't matter. I bought a plain glazed and asked for a "raised chocolate." I couldn't see any with nuts from where I was standing so I didn't even think to look before I got home. I absolutely hate nuts on doughnuts (ironic I know) but I stand by it. I have purchased donuts at least 1x per month since I was 18, 23 years later means I've ordered donuts at least 276 times. Never once have I needed to specify 'plain' when ordering 'raised chocolate.' It's implied that I'm asking for plain when I don't add "with..." Now, this is likely an honest mistake which can happen to anyone. I'm not pretentious enough to say something stupid like what if I had a nut allergy because of you have a nut allergy you shouldn't be eating at a donut shop. But it cost me $3.84 for a plain glazed donut (not pictured here ) and this monstrosity. A half glazed, nut covered donut ring. Tl;Dr - I'm going to give them another few months to get things dialed in. You should go, you may hit them on a good day, but be very intentional about what you order, keep expectations low. Local businesses need our support. I'll happily update my review if things improve. Please give them a shot, we want them to succeed. read more

Amazing donuts! I recently moved to the area and I'm always looking for great donuts and look no further! The glazed twist is one of my favorite donuts of all time because they put cinnamon in the dough. The chocolate and maple rings were really great as well. This was my first visit. I ordered the French crueler, old fashioned, chocolate cake with chocolate icing, and the croissant donut. The crueler and croissant were quite good, but I was disappointed in the other two. The old fashioned didn't have any buttermilk in the dough or whatever it is that makes old fashioned donuts unique in taste. Both the chocolate cake/icing were very bland. Not sure if they're using cheap chocolate or what. In any event, I wouldn't order the last two donuts again. read more
