My friend was craving a good burger, and Dempsey's did not disappoint. We shared the two burgers we ordered and thoroughly enjoyed both. We also shared a basket of their truffle fries with all of their homemade sauces--and probably 90% of those fries went home with us because we were just too full! Service was friendly and helpful, and I loved the unique atmosphere. The restaurant is in a converted house (as is the entire block), with the bar tucked away in the basement. There's also plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy during nice weather. If you haven't tried Dempsey's yet, definitely add it to your Wichita list!

If I could leave zero stars, I would. We came in with our family, 2 adults and 3 kids, and…read moreunfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the moment we walked in. We were immediately greeted by the host and another server arguing over who was going to seat us. Once we were seated and ordered, we waited about 30 minutes for our burgers and fries. When the kids' meals came out, the orders were incorrect, and the basket of fries we received was extremely stale and hard. We let our server know, and she took the fries back. We then waited another 25 minutes for the kids' corrected meals and a new basket of fries. Our server told us that the kids' meals and fries would be comped, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, when the food finally arrived, the fries were once again cold and stale. At that point, we were frustrated and just wanted to leave. Our server brought us the check, and we were shocked to see that everything was still charged. Nothing had been comped as we were told it would be. Mistakes happen, but the combination of poor service, long wait times, incorrect orders, stale food, and then being charged for items we were specifically told would be comped made this a really disappointing experience. We came in as a family hoping to enjoy a meal together and left feeling completely frustrated.

Mulligan's is an old-school bar. Good food, limited beer selection, slow but adequately friendly…read moreservice...they don't go out of their way to smile at you and chat about your day, but they aren't rude either. That's just the way it is. If you're suffering from main character syndrome and need someone to make you feel like mommy's special little somebody, Mulligan's isn't that place. But, if you want to get your beer and your food at some point, you want to have good conversations, you want a clean but hole-in-the-wall bar atmosphere, and you want somewhere that's not crowded from wall-to-wall with self-important hipsters shouting over one another about which fruity sour beer they like most, Mulligan's will fit the bill perfectly. They're usually pretty dead for lunch, with a few "regulars" bellied up to the bar, but the lunch specials are on point. Their Tacos and Pizza's stand out in quality and freshness, but everything on the menu is honestly pretty dang good...for bar food (remember, you're at a bar, not a steakhouse). Evenings and weekends garner a larger crowd, but I've never been there when I would consider it "crowded" or uncomfortable. Tables are well spaced and overall it's just not one of those places that's so crowded and loud that it gets annoying. It's a fantastic place to grab a few friends, belly up to the bar or find a dark corner, maybe shoot a round of pool or put something on the jukebox and enjoy yourself!
