We shared the two burgers we ordered and thoroughly enjoyed both. We also shared a basket of their truffle fries with all of their homemade sauces--and probably 90% of those fries went home with us because we were just too full! Service was friendly and helpful, and I loved the unique atmosphere. The restaurant is in a converted house (as is the entire block), with the bar tucked away in the basement. If I could leave zero stars, I would. We came in with our family, 2 adults and 3 kids, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the moment we walked in. We were immediately greeted by the host and another server arguing over who was going to seat us. Once we were seated and ordered, we waited about 30 minutes for our burgers and fries. When the kids' meals came out, the orders were incorrect, and the basket of fries we received was extremely stale and hard. We let our server know, and she took the fries back. We then waited another 25 minutes for the kids' corrected meals and a new basket of fries. Our server told us that the kids' meals and fries would be comped, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, when the food finally arrived, the fries were once again cold and stale. At that point, we were frustrated and just wanted to leave. Our server brought us the check, and we were shocked to see that everything was still charged. Nothing had been comped as we were told it would be. Mistakes happen, but the combination of poor service, long wait times, incorrect orders, stale food, and then being charged for items we were specifically told would be comped made this a really disappointing experience. Not a very pleasant dinner here tonight. Walking in first thing out of the 100+° weather, was almost a blast of heat in our faces. Hmmmmm... ac need repaired? Waiting to be seated, girl with a skirt & brunette braid kinda "looked" manager ish, but looked at us repeatedly as we were waiting for a hostess to seat us. Finally the bus boy who just cleared the table came over to us and said, "Welcome to Dempsey's" twice and started walking away. So I guess we follow him...? Sat down & ordered (our waitress was good), while skirt girl mostly hung out at the kitchen, watching the tv, and dropping "F" bombs apparently over the game. The music from the kitchen was building a headache as it was loud and brutal, but perhaps it blocked some of skirt girl sailors filthy mouth. Food came and my medium burger patty was more the red of a medium rare, or rare. The waitress said, "No. that's our medium." It was not a warm pink. Nope. I've eaten in all 50 states and this experience could truly be on a worst of 25 restaurants I've been to. So sad it's in my hometown. Between the music, lack of cooking experience, horrific actions of staff, and the heat, it's almost as if this is a "Go to work and have fun place", not "Let's cook the best food in the city and offer excellent service to become a fabulous restaurant that people have to make reservations days ahead of time to get in to!" First time visiting Dempsey's Burger Pub on a Saturday, and unfortunately, it will be my last. It took 47 minutes to receive two burgers and two sliders and fries, which is already frustrating--but the experience didn't improve from there. The truffle fries were brought out cold before the burgers even arrived, and nothing we were served was hot. I also ordered sweet potato fries and was told later they had run out, yet I was still charged for them. That should have been caught and corrected without me having to say anything. On top of that, the atmosphere didn't help. There was a group behind us yelling the entire time, making it hard to enjoy the meal at all. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed, which I can empathize with, but overall the service and execution just weren't there. However, I audibly heard the back of house cooks saying the f-slur, a very outdated and offensive word, with the whole restaurant able to hear. They disregarded it, didn't even understand the damage they were doing. The supposedly "house-made" pink lemonade is without a doubt Brisk's Pink Lemonade. Stopped here for lunch. It is in a little area that used to be houses but is now a shopping area, parking is limited. It was busy but we were seated fairly quickly. We sat upstairs but it appeared there was also seating downstairs. There are tables also on an outside deck. Staff was quick to take drink orders and followed up with the food order. We tried the grilled pineapple wings, the spin dip, burgers and fries. The wings were crispy and steaming hot when they arrived. A little disappointed in the taste because all we could get from them was a mild buffalo. Spin dip was served with soft pretzels and tortilla chips. It was very good, but all that can was two small containers of it. The amount didn't justify the price. I ordered the burger that was the special. Angus burger with bacon, cheese, onion rings, a house made Guinness reduction and micro greens on a pretzel bun. It was very good, and very good sized. My dining partner got the bacon Swiss burger and said it was good. They have different types of fries toner separately. I got the duck fat fries and my partner got the fire fries. Both sets of fries were tough and I couldn't tell the difference between duck fat fried and regular fried, but you got a lot of them. Got the mushroom swiss and almost three weeks later, I can still remember the flavor of the beef, which speaks volumes to the fantastic quality and skill of the cooks. Good stuff. The mushrooms were also a standout, not your typical little grocery shrooms. The truffle fries left something to be desired. The cheese was just tenderils of grated cheese all over the potatoes, not melted, actually kind of cold. I ended up taking off most it and setting it aside. And the fries were just alright. After tasting my friends' sweet potato fries, I really wish I had had those instead. Drinks were fabulous. Service was nice enough, I suppose, but could be warmer. One of my favorite places in Wichita- my go to place for when people visit. Pro tip: get the blueberry moscow mule! If there's a wait for a table and it's semi-warm out, grab a drink from the bar and wait outside for your table. The wings are my favorite, but any and all of the burgers are fantastic! The fries are great too! The duck-fat French fries don't taste that different to me all the time, so I'd recommend it once but maybe stick with the regular fries after. Went for a work lunch today. Food was better than I had expected. Boneless wings and sweet potato fries were my favorite! My only suggestion is not to use as a "work-lunch" location bc it is pretty loud over the lunch hour. My main complaint was the service was NOT very good. This is a go to place in Wichita. Located in the downtown college district surrounded by great architecture and beautiful landscaping this little joint serves amazing burgers and fries. It can be a little loud but it is always crowded. Outdoor seating for nice days but two levels inside to accommodate for a larger number of people. The kitchen is quick without sacrificing quality. My burger was cooked to the temperature I requested. This burger has tortilla chips, rotel cheese, bacon, cheddar, and an avocado blend. The flavor was bursting. The burger juicy and it was just great. The duck fat fries are always good and the only drawback is the order is large. Cost is around $8 but the duck fat makes the smaller, thinner fries real crispy while making the larger fries soft without being mushy. This order plus a draft beer with a $6,40 tip came out to $40 even. Definitely worth it. I highly recommend this place if you're in Wichita. read more

We've been patrons of Dempsey's for at least 6 years and recommend it to others, but tonight will probably be the last time we eat there due to the very poor service from the waitress. We were seated and waited a good while for the waitress to acknowledge we were there. We asked for water to drink and waited and waited, so I asked the hostess if she could get us water. The waitress came by and told us we needed to be patient they were learning a new system. After that she was short, did not ask if everything was okay or offer any drink refills. She left the check on the table without looking, no thank you, eye contact or anything. She was the most unfriendly server I've ever had. While we were eating, a line formed at the door with customers holding the door open continuously which let the cold air in. The hostess should've managed this better; another waiter finally asked the customers to shut the door. Overall, it seemed like we were an inconvenience to the restaurant not a customer. It's Mother's Day, and our family of 15 came ready to celebrate -- but you turned us away because "your kitchen couldn't handle it" and it "wouldn't be fair to other patrons." We even offered to split into smaller groups of 4-5, and you still said no. Yet while we stood there, we watched you seat other tables of 5-8 people without an issue. Example: If your restaurants capacity is 40 people, you should be able to serve 40 -- no matter how they're grouped. What really stings? You had no problem serving our family of 12 on Mother's Day last year. So what changed? Very disappointing. You lost a loyal group today. read more
