It's easy to see why this pub is called Pumphouse. It's an old 1930s service station. The pub spared no detail in honoring the legacy of the building. From the menus, to the old neon light signs, to the names of the drinks, it really feels like you are taking a step back in time. We came on a Sunday afternoon, and the Kansas City Chiefs were playing so seating was very limited, but we were able to seat ourselves at a table by the bar. There were plenty of televisions to watch the game from any angle. We tried some of the local brews, and I had one of their specialty cocktails, which was delicious. It was a busy Thursday night in Wichita with the Shriner parade pub crawl going on & the Morgan Wallen concert at the Intrust Bank arena. We were staying at the Courtyard Marriott across the street so we thought we'd try this restaurant out a couple hours before the concert. I used to work in the service industry & can usually be very understanding when a place is busier than normal. However the staff at this place was just straight up rude not just earlier in the evening when we waited over 25 minutes to be greeted. To make matters worse when a short brunette female waitress did eventually acknowledge us we we're firmly told to move away from a table that had clearly closed out and been abandoned with the tip & empty drinks still on the table but then no offer of service or where we could place an order. It was a seat yourself set up but everywhere we went the staff members around there looked miserable and annoyed by everyone. We left & found another place that was closer to the arena in which the staff was much more pleasant for dinner. We made the mistake of giving this place a second chance after the concert also just to order a drink. Place was busy but not packed, still took over 20 minutes to get a drink and only 2 bartenders were actually working while a handful of other servers and staff stood around talking in the front entrance area. I would hands down not go back to this place even if it was the only place open in the old town area. read more

I worked all week in Wichita for the NCAA tournament. I ate here probably 4 of the 7 days while in town. It was convenient and nice. After working from 12pm - 12:30am on Saturday I wanted to grab a couple of drinks before bed. Needless to say I didn't go into the Pumphouse. They wanted to charge me $20 for 45 minutes. The reason? They had a DJ!! The place wasn't even that busy. It's Wichita, Kansas not a big Metro city. The ownership/management that's a pathetic excuse. Really, really disappointing after having a good time most of the week there when I wasn't working. Folks coming to this area avoid this spot Friday & Saturday night. Also the clubs and bars around this area steal the hotel parking spaces too! read more

Not crowded at all and sat on the patio. Server just didn't seem with it or well trained and was forgetful and definitely not attentive . Table was very dirty - one wipe with a napkin and it was dark gray. Ordered the burger and onion rings. The breading on the rings was chewy Burger was dry so I asked for some mayo, 10 minutes later, started to eat it because it was getting cold but when I got her attention, I asked for the mayo again and for some ice for my now warm tea. Several minutes later a runner brought mustard, not mayo - no ice for the tea. Several more minutes pass and I eventually drank the rest of the warm tea, server then shows up with small cup of ice. Even though I'm supposed to be back in town in a few weeks, I definitely will not be going back to this place. read more

Pumphouse nails it! Great( and generous food portions) reasonably priced drinks, TV's everywhere and most important, wonderful Midwest hospitality! They do a great job of making a first timer feel like a local. Nostalgia about the place ( former gas station!) and area is very cool, but it's the customer service and the staff that sets it apart! Anyone and everyone will take care of you. Inside/outside- 3 outdoor patios and plenty of space inside. So let's talk about food.... The large portions and in house food creations are excellent. Pizza, wings and burgers are all among the best. The prices.....I'm afraid to comment as I want to make sure it's not too crowded next time I'm town. Well, I can't speak for the weekend nights, which by other reviewers' accounts appears to be a bad call, but my Sunday and Monday evenings were perfectly delightful. What a great atmosphere that patio (those patios) offers! This place is expansive, interesting, and perfectly modestly populated on a weeknight. I went here twice in my week in ICT and both times I really enjoyed the ambiance and wares. The drinks are not scantily poured, the food portions are decent, and the service was pretty great. There were a couple slow moments when the server got busy, but otherwise, they were very engaged and attentive. Those pretzel sticks are marvelous, and the cheese gooey and hot. The cauliflower was a surprise, as unornate as it was, sprinkled lightly with cajun'y flavor and served with ... wha?? ... cocktail sauce. I ordered some wings sauce just for backup. I'm glad I did, cuz it was saucesome (ha!), but I didn't really need it, cuz the cocktail sauce was surprisingly perfect! The house salad was also really, really good! It's hard to go terribly wrong or terribly right with a plain ol' house salad, just your basics - lettuce, carrots, cheese, croutons, tomatoes. But something about the way they cut the veggies... I was really, truly delighted by it. I will say those onion rings were a bit disappointing. They had all the outward appearance and aroma of something destined to be truly spectacular. But alas, they were under-flavored in my opinion. Maybe some more seasoning in the batter, guys? My only other complaint was the volume of the TVs. You really don't need the volume that high unless you're packed with folks who are there specifically to watch the games. Keep it in the background for safe eye-roving during those lulls in conversation. By the way, that 80s music video station you had playing Monday night was deeeeeeeluxe!! No - this is not a strip club even though the name makes it seem as such. Underlying smell of spilled beer, axe body spray and stale cigarette smoke tingle the nostrils upon entering. Here's the thing about the Pumphouse - if you are coming here it is to drink - food is an afterthought - yes the burgers are decent and even the wraps pass muster - but that's not the point. When there are stacks of cases of beer staged behind metal gates next to the bathroom you begin to appreciate task, purpose and intent. We flew into Wichita for a weekend trip to Lawrence and Pumphouse was right across the street from our hotel. The food was great with a nice selection (highly recommend the burgers and cheese curds) and our waitress was on point and very friendly. Stopped in for Sat lunch. Very cool place with a great bar. We ordered onion rings and buffalo wings and a couple beers. The onion rings were some of the best I ever had. The wings were solid but needed more sauce. We requested more sauce which made them much better. We also got a combo pizza to go which we tried a slice of before we left (food for hotel for after wedding). The crust was delicious and had the standard toppings.
