First, you should know that I am a Paint Snob. I have a background in it, both in sales and application. Whenever I see a restored or exotic car the first thing I look at is the quality of the paint job. I even have enough experience painting and detailing cars to reach the Humility Stage, best stated by Dirty Harry Callahan: "A man's got to know his limitations." I knew that I had reached mine when I attempted to paint my 25 year old future collectable and while it started out ok, it wasn't CORRECT and I'd ran into some problems I couldn't fix. Time to find a real Pro... I found Jim's Custom Refinishing and Collision (and many others) through a web search. His is not the most polished website and presentation. His shop was not the easiest to find and don't expect a nice waiting area with beverages and snacks like the dealerships have.. He even refers to himself as "Crazy Jim S." on Yelp, something that wasn't exactly endearing to me for the task at hand. (BTW, "crazy" he's not. He's just ... energetic). It could've been enough for me to move on to the next body shop but I didn't because of what the other reviewers here said about him and I found to be quite true: 1. He's responsive. He texts right back, picks up the phone when it rings or calls right back. A rarity these days. 2. He does what he says he will do and even went beyond, (translated - he fixed the screwups I had made). 3. There were no surprises. I hate surprises when my $$ are involved. 4. His turnaround is fast! He took the car on Tuesday, said it would be ready that Sunday and delivered the car a day early! 5. Last, and the most important is, he's PASSIONATE about his work. And when you are passionate about what you do and have been doing it a long time (as he has) it's going to be good. And it was. The Paint Snob that I am, I'd already planned to 'cut and buff' the finish (it takes out all of the orange peel and imperfections) when I got the car back. There was virtually no orange peel; it was that smooth, making that job a lot easier! 6. Oh, and his estimate was very reasonable; WAY below the other estimate I sought. Would I recommend Jim's? First let me say if you have an older vehicle in need of restorative work, you would be nuts if you didn't take it to Jims. Finding a place that can do credible rust repair and restoration is difficult. The people working at Jims are master craftsmen who have been in the business for many combined years. I have an 1985 Mercedes that is all original. I told them I wanted to keep the car original as much as possible. They did. There were some rust areas that I thought were minor. As with all rust repair what lurks beneath the surface is more extensive than what meets the eye. They repaired all of it. A friend of mine who now unfortunately lives far from me directed me to Jims. He and his family have been in the body shop and auto repair business for many years. I shared photos of the work throughout the process with him. His comment at the conclusion was "Wow, it looks great." Often when I drive it somewhere, strangers come and say "that car looks great". Some want to buy it. Finally, body work is not cheap but I thought that for what was done and the quality of the materials used the cost was very reasonable. First off, I have been in the auto body business for some time, but now adjust insurance claims. I am super picky, especially with paint work, and unfortunately in need of service since someone hit my truck. Being new to the area, naturally I researched shops via the internet, and Jim's had a good rating so I decided to check them out. The shop is small, and somewhat cramped. Jim personally walked me around the shop, showed me what he was working on, and after a conversation about my expectations, I was impressed. Pricing was very reasonable, and after repairs were completed I arrived to inspect to work performed. My truck is a 3 stage paint (tricoat) and is extremely difficult to match. Jim did a fantastic job, matched the color seamlessly. The gaps were good, the trim was in place, I was genuinely impressed knowing how difficult this type of work is. I would recommend. Keep in mind, smaller shop, less production, and if you're in a time crunch this may not be for you. If you're looking for quality service, exceptional work, and reasonable prices, Jim's is a valuable contender! read more

I scuffed up a bumper on the right front of my son in laws Audi from a brief encounter with a garage door opening as I entered his garage. To preserve my reputation as a great driver I needed to repair it before he returned from a reunion In Pittsburgh with my daughter. I called Jim on a Saturday afternoon and by 12 PM on Sunday he had the car back In impeccable condition. Reputation salvaged. Son in law never noticed anything once he returned. Jim fixed the car in my presence. Not only does he have amazing technical skills, he is the consummate customer centric businessman. Very personable, delivered what he promised, offered me two cold sweet teas as we both sweltered in 97 degree heat and all the while share stories with me about his life experiences. As a former CEO and President, I was impressed by his work ethic, his character and his people skills. A great American! I believe the reviews on this business are fake. I went to Jim and had him to work on my car after my accident Jim took 6 months to fix my car. Every time I called him, he would have a new excuse. He was very helpful through the insurance process. After he got the insurance money he took his time. I was under the impression that I was the only one dealing with waiting so long but seems like its other people also. I honestly wouldn't recommend Jim to fix Stuart Little's Red Corvette. When I got my car back from him it wasn't even fixed properly. Please I'm begging you. Take your car somewhere else, if you don't and believe these fake reviews you'll be waiting forever. We brought in a 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan for repairs, removing paint scrapes from the side of the vehicle, repairing the passenger-side rear view mirror, repairing the passenger-side middle door, and repairing some damage to the passenger-side front panel of the vehicle. Jim's took the vehicle in right away without us needing to come back, and had it ready in just two days, with all the work completed and well done. We were amazed to get a quality job returned to us so quickly! His shop did beautiful work on the van - it looks like new. Called Jim sent him pictures of the damage to my 2019 grand caravan he assured me that the damage was not that bad, as soon as my van got to his shop the only thing he wanted to know is when the insurance check would arrive and will I give him permission to cash it. After that there was always some excuse for my van not being repaired after 9months my van isn't repaired none of my electrical doors work and the only thing I get is I will have to take it to Chrysler and get insurance involved again, now I have to take it to Chrysler to pay to get my doors fixed. Jim was a professional who more than willing to ensure I got a great result on the satin black finish for my land cruiser. He worked with me on a very reasonable price and communicated throughout to make sure I loved the job (which I did!). Since I was experiencing issues with our other vehicle, he was even willing to pick me up and bring me over to get the truck. He was even willing to start the paint job over as he is a perfectionist and felt the color was not quite right initially. Called on a whim looking to get a new screw for my license plate... it was dangling, flapping in the wind. Jim picked up immediately, was super friendly and polite, and told me to come on by right then. Gave me a new screw and had my license plate secured within seconds free of charge. Jims custum refinishing is a fraudulant business. They took 6 months to return an incomplete, twisted car. The car was never right aftwr the accident and had multiple missing parts. The paint matching was terrible and they did not install parts they agreed to call. Jim's shop did a fantastic job taking a used hood I brought to him that was red with white stripes. This was to replace my dented hood.
