Worst dining experience ever! Sea Scallops in a bed of Cow Manure! So unspeakably horrid even when I complained the owner ( Jim himself, a colossally pompous arse hole) threatened to beat me up. Hard to prepare yourself for something this regressively awful. Look, it's Peoria so we weren't expecting El Celler de Can Roca, but when Ray LaHood the former Transpo Secretary commands center room one might think you're in for a decent culinary event. (Washington D.C. types take their expense accounts very seriously) Unfortunately, the only thing I should have taken from the disgusted moue on the transportation tsar's face was a conveyance far away from what turned out to be the dining equivalent to Danté's Seventh Ring of Hell. The waitress/barista was so inept she couldn't even manage a dry martini and delivered a concoction equal to a rain puddle in a cup. When the entree finally arrived I thought it was a joke; five or six perfectly plump, grilled and ice cold scallops sunken in a brown morass of cow dung shaped sweet potato that was so god-awfully sweet it could have come from a Church pantry can for the homeless. Do yourself a favor -- skip this culinary disaster and toddle on over to Noir. The waitresses are savvy, the manager astute and the food and atmosphere charming, although, Denny's would be a step up from the charlatan's carnival that is Jims Bistro. read more

Jims Bistro is one of my personal favorite family-owned, fine dining restaurants in Peoria to choose from; the service is always exceptional with extremely kind, personable and hospitable servers and hosts, wonderful bartenders who always remember your order when you walk in the door, and not to mention the amazing food and cocktails/wine selection that they offer. My personal favorite dish to order here is the 6oz filet which is always cooked perfectly to temp and for the high quality of product that they serve and portions, the prices here are definitely more than worth it in my opinion. Such a lovely date night spot for anyone, and also a wonderful place to meet friends for a drink and chat! The atmosphere and environment is ambient, moody, classy but unpretentious and makes you feel warm, welcome and comfortable. The owners and staff are truly some of the kindest, funniest, and genuine local business owners/servers I've met and they certainly pride themselves on having a wonderful environment with fantastic food, drink and service for their guests. I would highly recommend Jim's to anyone and it's easily one of my favorite spots to pop in for a nice dinner or a casual, sophisticated drink in the heights :) read more

MIKE MILLER = RUDE LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT CUSTOMER I was visiting Peoria, and I was minding my own business at the bar after dinner, and some guy named Mike Miller invited me to a table with the owner and his son. After introducing myself, this little short man got extremely upset when I did not recognize him because someone said he was a "local celebrity" and he said "that I should know who he is", but I didn't care. Well, as a black man with a doctorate and a businessman from the North Shore Suburbs of Chicago who has traveled the world, I don't keep up with anyone in this town. Then the little shit started to hurl insults at me and the owner's son began to defend this unintelligent and insecure little man. He is a prime example of a Peoria nobody and a piece of trash and it's unfortunate that I had this experience at this restaurant that I thought was classy. Hopefully, the owner does a better controlling his regular customers. read more

I recently had the chance to dine at Jim's Bistro in Peoria, and I can't say enough good things about the experience. From the moment you walk in, there's a warm, welcoming atmosphere that immediately makes you feel at home. It strikes that perfect balance between cozy neighborhood spot and thoughtfully curated dining experience. The food was excellent across the board. Everything tasted fresh, well-prepared, and clearly made with attention to detail. You can tell there's real care behind the menu--not just in the flavors, but in how each dish is presented. It's the kind of place where you end up slowing down and actually enjoying every bite. Service was just as impressive. Friendly, attentive, and genuine without ever feeling overbearing. It added to the overall relaxed and enjoyable vibe of the evening. I'll definitely be back, and I highly recommend giving it a try if you're in the Peoria area read more

I never write reviews but this place is an absolute MUST! My partner and I are currently on a roadtrip and are stopping through Peoria. We decided to go on a walk to find food and happened to pass by Jim's bistro which caught our eyes immediately. We sat outside at one of their high top tables and were pleasured to have met the owners! They are genuine, down to earth, absolutely lovely people! And the cuisine was incredible! Their food and hospitality made our entire day of travels worth it. Jim's Bistro is hands down one of the best dining experiences in the Peoria area. From the moment you walk in, you can tell this place takes pride in what they do. The food is exceptional. I wanted to share feedback about my recent visit to your restaurant. From the moment I walked in, the hostess seemed incredibly overwhelmed and downright rude. It took a long time before we were seated, and once at the table, our waitress took quite a while to arrive. When the waitress (Jazz) did come, she was very talkative and most of her talking felt inappropriate, which made parts of the experience uncomfortable. However, I want to note that the steak I ordered was absolutely incredible, and both the atmosphere and the drinks were wonderful. Despite the slow and awkward start, the quality of the food and the ambiance really stood out. I hope this feedback is helpful for your team, and I look forward to seeing improvements during my next visit. read more

10/10 recommend. Jim's Bistro has been one of my go to spots in Peoria Heights since the early 2000s, and it has never let me down. The family that runs it is awesome. They are always welcoming and you can tell they really care about the people coming through the door. The food is consistently great, but I have to mention the garlic mashed potatoes. They are unreal. Super smooth, buttery, and packed with just the right amount of garlic. I end up looking forward to them every time I go. Pair them with a Ribeye or really anything on the menu and you are in a good spot. Honorable mention is the fried catfish. Yum. It is just one of those places that always delivers. There seems to be inconsistency, particularly in execution. The first night, I got the special - boneless ribeye with garlic aioli, topped with melted cheese and three shrimp. It was pretty good (a little salty) and properly cooked medium-rare. One friend ordered a medium-rare New York Strip which was came out well done (hammered) and they were nice enough not to charge us for it. The scallops, which my friend ordered, were OK, but the result of a not hot enough pan - not fully seared, but a little rubbery (the sign of being slightly overcooked). The carrot cake is amazing and absolutely worth getting (and it's big). The second night, I got the ribs, which were excellent. One friend got the fillet (very good) and the other got the prime rib. The prime rib was not cut from a cooked standing rib roast, which is what prime rib is supposed to be, but was rather a cooked-to-order steak. It was properly cooked medium-rare, but I wouldn't call it prime rib. Au gratin potatoes and broccoli were good - nothing special, but a nice accompaniment. My friend only took one spoonfull of the french onion soup before setting it aside. The crème brûlée was soupy - not fully set. They make a great old-fashioned. It seems clear that they have excellent ingredients and the ability to do things well, but seriously lack quality control in the kitchen. You can end up getting something amazing, but it could also be a disaster. I highly recommend sending it back if it's not right.

Is Main Street a mainstay?…read more Word-of-mouth brought me and my dad to trying this place out on a cold and blustery Saturday morning. He had heard good things and I had heard the same so we figured to see what we thought of it. It wasn't too busy when we arrived and we were told to take a booth to our right. We sat down to a half-full but bustling restaurant. We got our menus and drinks promptly and started poring over the menu. My dad went with his usual country fried steak skillet-style meal and I went with a basic stack of pancakes and bacon. The vibe of the place was a generic blend of diner and family restaurant. Nothing really stood out to me that was unique besides this US Veterans table we were next to. I didn't get to snap a photo as they just cleaned it off and were about to sit down another group of people that just walked in. The waitress brought out our food and accidentally brought us a muffin instead of my bacon but was super quick to swap the two. Looking at my food and the price I paid and looking at my dad's food and the price he paid, I was instantly jealous he got so much more food for about the same price. The pancakes were large and plentiful compared to some places I've been and the bacon were long strips and not shriveled up and almost cooked too long. So why the mid rating? The waitress and staff overall weren't all that friendly. They weren't unpleasant by any means but the friendly chatting and banter you normally get at a restaurant was lacking here. There didn't seem to be a lot of mingling and cohesion to the staff that you see at most other restaurants. It was weird and if not a bit mechanical feeling. I'm not the most extroverted of people but a little bit of banter or chatting with the server is usually a plus. But most importantly is the food. How was it? Serviceable. The pancakes, even with the butter spread on it and plenty of syrup, were lacking a big punch of wow. Granted, it's just pancakes but I'd prefer to eat pancakes at a restaurant that don't feel like something I can make at home. The bacon was super tasty though. Just a bit disappointing that 3 strips were $3.99. My pops said he enjoyed his meal but it wasn't anything to write home about. I did try a small chunk of his country fried steak and it was decent, if not a bit overly crunchy/burnt on the steak portion. Overall, not a bad time with my dad but I just wish my meal wasn't lacking that punch for $12. I'd definitely come back and try a lunch item to see if that provides the oomph that eating out provides versus eating at home.
