Small corner, maybe fits about 6 adults at counter seating (no tables). They had some games - connect four, hook on the ring and cribbage. Cute little kids area too. Pizza: well this was big for us as a party of two so we have the other half left over. The crust was so crunchy. Toppings were delicious! Real clams, creamy. I thought this pizza got better with each bite. Super cheesy, pulls apart. Would definitely come back to order their other ones!

Oh rats! I was hoping this place'd be better…read more.. Driven past this on roadtrips many a time; decided to actually stop in and check it out on the most recent trip. I'd been drawn in by the silly rodent statue on top of the building, because I like touristy shops. Upon entry I immediately realized the place was kind of dingy and gross. We got there with about half an hour 'til closing and this fact certainly showed in the affect of all the employees. I was curious about sampling some of the cheeses, but all of the employees were apparently too busy getting ready to close to help us, so we didn't get to try any of the many varieties. It was a bit odd to me to have potential customers there in the store during business hours, and the employees are steadfastly ignoring our presence to turn off the lights and such. We took the hint, quickly used the restroom, made a small courtesy purchase, then left. Speaking of the restroom, the floors were really sticky. Eww. Noticed they had lots of signage up that they were hiring. Yeah, they should probably hire someone who gives AF, if I'm being really honest, cuz it seems to me this place probably was great at one point but has fallen into disrepair. I got a couple pieces of taffy and hubby got a bag of nuts. We could tell from the taste/texture that these items had been sitting for awhile. I'm not a proponent of wasting food, but if your store can't turn products around before they're expired, I recommend perhaps just not selling those things and stick to cheese... Anyway, reckon we'll try out another of the many cheese shops in Wisconsin next time we drive through. There's certainly plenty to choose from!

The servers worked great as a team and our order was taken promptly, food came out steaming hot, tables were bussed quickly. Great teamwork. I had to have the smash burger as it seems to be a signature item. It was so good! Two huge patties. I got mine with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and sauted onions. Fresh. Delicious. Love the little crisp on the smash burger. So good. My side was a salad but I may have stolen a fry just for a taste test and they had my approval. I can't believe we almost drove away. The menu is two sided and manages to have a nice variety without being overstuffed. I ended up ordering the Camarones a la Diabla, as someone who loves spicy shrimp it sounded great. A bit of a wait for the food, but the place was busy with the dining room almost full including a couple of larger tables. The chips and salsa was ok, but nothing special but provided a nice prelude while I waited for the meal. The meal came out nicely presented on a square white plate, which set off the colorful meal. The shrimp were nice sized, plump and well cooked; the sauce was excellent, not overly spicey, but instead complex and delicious with an interesting mix of flavors, it seemed to be similar to a mole instead of just a hot sauce. The refried beans and spanish rice were both good and the guacamole, sour cream and small salad was a nice compliment to the meal. The flour tortillas were very good, freshly griddled and fresh. I was very impressed with El Alegre, the decor is a nice change from most Mexican restaurants. I was very impressed with their version of Camarones a la Diabla, usually it is served with a fairly simple hot sauce, here they created a wonderful and complex sauce that perfectly complimented the shrimp and provided a true treat. If you are in the area and looking for some great Mexican food El Alegre is well worth a visit. If the rest of the menu is anything like my meal it is a great flavorful interpretation of Mexican food.
