This is my third visit for the purpose of attending the Virginia High School State Swimming Championship. Parking can be a challenge for visitors depending on timing. There is a lot of close surface parking. The lot was overall pretty clean with minor debris. The building although dated to the early 70's is in great condition. The majority of the facility is for the GMU competition pool. It was fully renovated in the past 15 years. The primary pool and diving well is for George Mason Swim and Dive team practice and competition. However, faculty and students can use the pool. They also have a Masters swim group that uses the competition pool. The spectator area is extremely compact, but spans the entire length of the pool and well. A 25 yard training pool is also offered. A nice size tiled in hot tub, sauna and fitness room is on the same level. The Olympic size competition pool is 50 meters with movable bulkhead, platform diving and well. The aquatic complex consist of approximately 145,000 gallons of swimming capability. The Long Course pool has eight lanes for competition. What I did not see was indoor basketball courts. However, they do have multi purpose areas in the building. They also have offices and classrooms. The locker room area is somewhat small, but was pretty clean. There were two malfunctioning items. A sink was closed off and a non flushing urinal. Day passes are offered to visitors for $10. This covers the entire pool and fitness areas in the building. 3.5 rounding down.

The GMU Field House is a nice break from the Aquatic and Fitness Center (AFC) where everyone else…read moregoes. I think it is safe to assume the Field House is where most of the people playing sports for GMU go. The Field house is open to all students and AFC members but this place is for serious athletes only! You won't see dudes with tons of hair gel and girls caked up in tons of make up here (unlike at the AFC.) You also won't see many machines here. There's a huge weight room, in and outdoor track, and four indoor multipurpose courts. There probably is a little more than what I've mentioned because I usually hit up the weight room with one of my friends then leave. If you end up going to a GMU athletic building you won't be disappointed!

Parents walk in with street shoes and floors get dirty quickly. And there are a lot of irresponsible older men who walk around barefoot, no doubt sharing their plantar warts, and gifted some of that HPV to me, which has made the last 4 months a royal pain in my foot.

One girl who couldn't swim at the beginning of the week was able to dive into the deep end with out a life vest by the end of the week. That says a lot about the quality of instruction and trust that the instructor builds with the kids. Overall, we had a pleasant experience. What can I say about a pool in a high school? It's clean. There are lessons provided through Arlington Parks and Recreation so I'm excited about looking into that.

This pool has been in business sometime, mostly for Mosby Woods residents and visitors. Have been lucky to have swum laps here, or just chilled with the kindle on the fairly comfortable chairs. The gravel lot works, and can hold a decent amount of vehicles. If parking is an issue, residential streets close by have room. The employees here are very friendly. Also kudos to them, for not allowing teenagers to do what they want to do. Yes all of us, myself included were young once, but sometimes you want to hammer out laps or relax a bit. There's more road noise from 66, due to the 66 inside the Beltway project. Yet all in all, a decent place to be on a hot summer day.

When you pull in, there's a few tennis courts in great condition. There's a nice covered area where they were doing concessions doing the swim meet, but would be a nice place to sit during normal hours. I also appreciated that they had a huge fridge for members to use to store their things during their visits. I wish our pool had that! One entire side of the pool has stadium seating - long wood rows for you to watch the swim meet. The rows are a bit narrow so they're tight when you're trying to pass someone, but it's a really nice touch. Whoever designed this pool has been to a lot of swim meets and was thinking about spectators. :) There's also a nice shady patio behind the stadium seating, as well as a volleyball court on sand. And because I know you're wondering, there is public WiFi - you just need the code to get in.

They have two separate courts; a bigger one on the higher level that has two on it and the smaller one on the lower level that has one, so it's really a great facility where you can have a lot of people playing at once. There's also a little tennis building with a covered cabana area that offers tables & a lot of seating where parents or friends and family can sit and relax while they wait, and a smaller waiting area between the two courts. If you prefer to stay active while you wait, the grounds are connected to many trails that you can go walk or run on. Our neighborhood community pool has swam against this pool during swim season and it is also a beautiful facility.

I think the community is great! We also have an awesome swim team that has climbed up to Division 2 this summer, so if you're looking for a great swim coach where your kids can swim competitively, this pool is it. The swim team is also big enough that your kids will have plenty of friends to choose from. There's a nice cohort or about 5-6 girls and 5-6 boys in each age group for your kids to gel with and my kids look forward to playing with their swim friends after practice. If you're looking at VAC verses Dunn Loring, I personally prefer VAC because: -the pool is set back from the road so you don't hear street noise -the pool has trees to provide shade for the mornings and evenings - I've heard about friends who are Dunn Loring members getting awful sunburns -the fee to become a member at VAC is refundable when you end your membership, unlike Dunn Loring -we only have one pool but it has 8 lanes making for much faster swim meets. Swim meets at Dunn Loring seem to last forever.

The pool is huge so that a portion can stay open during swim meets. There's a waterslide and water basketball. There's a big dive well (and Cardinal Hill has a dive team). There's even a giant parking lot! There's really not much I can complain about at Cardinal Hill. Probably the only complaints would be the high price to join and that there are only 6 lanes during swim meets (making the meets take longer). But that's small potatoes compared to what Cardinal Hill has to offer.
