I wish I could get my time and money back! I do not mind talking about my life but when all you do is sit in front of me typing what I say then print it out. Then say this is who I am--well that's a horrible experience $400 later. The testing was in a room with no supervision and then I had to take a test home for someone else to email back--what kind of testing is this??After all this - I especially liked how I was supposed to get help somewhere else and he did nothing for me but charge me money and type. The icing on the cake was when Jason asked me about my dad who sent back the form he needed--UMM-My dad passed away last year-omg! this person did not listen to me at all and why would you say or mention my Dad. Maybe Just MAYBE this guy should actually get to know his clients and not just pay attention to the money. DO NOT GO HERE FOR HELP!

I felt like I needed to help tilt the scales back to how Hill Country Counseling actually operates…read more The previous reviewer I'm sure had some negative experiences and he/she is completely valid. My experience has been very different. I don't want anyone to not be able to receive the good/affordable care they need because they read a review that may not reflect the way HCC operates on a normal day-to-day. The therapist that I've been seeing for the past 7 months is very respectful, open-minded, and goes out of her way to protect her clients. I know this from my experience and the experience of others that have seen her. She has her personal opinions and perspective, as we all do, but it has little effect to the professional care she provides as a therapist - in a good way, and not a bad way. And that's what I love - there's a level of honesty there. Neither of us hide who we are for the sake of "professionalism". That seems to be a part of the culture of HCC. Nobody is too professional that you can't come to them with your problems or issues. Staff members crack jokes, are welcoming, laid-back, extremely helpful, and just want to see patients get better. That includes the counselor I'm seeing as well. I can't speak for other counselors, although everyone at HCC seems nice and approachable. This isn't a hoity-toity therapist's office with therapists completely up their own ass, disconnected from what you're actually going through. People here care, and to the point where there is a deep level of comfort amongst clients that just want to better manage their emotions and thought processes. Are they in need of some changes? Absolutely. I'm looking at you, 70's wood paneling. As for the occult and witchcraft claims, Occult Wednesdays are pretty common but you get used to it after your first goat. But seriously, there is no occult activity. Although, to be fair, that would make the punch way more fun.

It was okay at first then I noticed that the staff &…read morecounselors were very controlling over the clients banning the mention of "God" yet attempted to force clients into participating in the occult such as astrology in one of the counselor's group. If a client spoke up stating they did not want to participate in the occult activity of astrology, they were berated & humiliated in front of the other group participants. A former van driver was fired for mentioning God to a fellow Christian on the van! This center is not a healthy place. I would not doubt if, by now, they were openly practicing witchcraft & berating & humiliating clients into participation or kicking them out if they refuse. Beware!

I am usually skeptical of therapy & have, in the past, found it unhelpful & patronizing. However, at the recommendation of a friend, I began seeing Mary Rose at Sol Associates a couple years ago & liked her immediately. I ended my therapy about 6-8 months later due to changes in my life that made it difficult for me to come in regularly. About 6 months ago, after my wedding was abruptly called off, I decided it might be time to return to therapy & gave Mary Rose a call, only to find out that she was moving out of state. Fortunately she recommended another therapist at the office & I started seeing Melissa. I have been extremely pleased with Melissa's no-nonsense approach. She tells it like it is & calls me out on my crap. Some people may not like that, but I appreciate the blunt honesty. Also, the therapists at Sol Associates all have sliding scale slots available, which is awesome if you are like me & have no insurance to cover your visits. They are conveniently located in central Austin in nice, home-like office on the corner of Kerbey Lane & 34th. The only drawback is the parking. There is limited space available in their tiny lot & although street parking is available, it can often get crowded... especially during the hours around 8:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m., as it sits adjacent to an elementary school.

I saw the Dubins about ten years ago, during a terrible time…read morein my life. My father died suddenly when I was already dealing with serious anxiety and depression and trying to survive being in college away from home. I put a great deal of pressure on myself. But, due to the fact that I had come from a small private school, the social side of college was the most intimidating. I didn't make much of an effort in those years, especially because I was in mourning for my father. So, I was an emotional mess of a person with virtually no experience in sex and dating. I had no idea how attractive I was or could be, and was afraid to find out. But in one session, Dr. Tina Dubin very bluntly "I got news for you...." laid down her impressions of my physical attractiveness, to the point that I burst into tears and tried to hurt myself right there in the room. My insecurity is my own problem, and my own fault. But a professional therapist should know better than to speak with such cruelty to someone with no life experience, or any other sense of what they're worth to the opposite sex. In what should have been a safe, or at least careful and polite environment, I was hit with a bomb that still haunts me ten years later. I spent the entirety of my twenties without daring to approach a girl, because I thought that my value had already been determined by Dr. Dubin. No one else had ever spoken so frankly, so I assumed it to be unimpeachable evidence of my looks. I have never had a girlfriend, as of 33 years old. During the height of the pandemic, I tried for the first time to do online dating, but when I got no matches, I put that failure together with what she'd said, and decided that I was right to give up the idea of romantic success as long as I looked the way I do. I am now considering plastic surgery, although I don't know when I will be able to afford it, or what exactly the problem with my face is. My family is not in favor of this, and they tell me that there's nothing wrong with the way I look. I have no idea anymore what to believe, but I do know that Dr Dubin set me on a terrible trajectory at a time when I was especially vulnerable, and trusted her absolutely. But now, I don't believe that I will ever be secure enough in myself to feel loved, or maintain a healthy relationship. She is too irresponsible to be trusted with emotionally vulnerable people.

I asked him if he could treat my phobia and he answered with "do you have insurance?" I do have insurance (I'm definitely not opposed to paying what I need to pay for treatment since he is apparently out of network with insurance companies) but his answer was "well since you have insurance no I cannot treat you". In what world is it okay for you to reject a potential patient based on insurance? Just the mere assumption that having insurance means that I'm not willing to pay out of pocket is insulting and just plain rude. That's not the question I asked. Dr. Dubin showed no sense of care and a quite elevated sense of arrogance. If he's this way with a potential patient I can only image how he is with an actual active patient. Downright terrible experience. If you're reading this find someone else. A person with this level of negativity and lack of care does not deserve patients.
