Yesterday my 16-year-old dog Joey had an appointment with Dr. Stephen Hodgeson. You can tell Dr. Hodgeson truly loves animals. I was really concerned about my aging chihuahua. Dr. Hodgeson took the time to listen to my worries and answered my concerns. He really had my Joey's best interest at heart. They don't try to talk you in to unnecessary tests and procedures if this is not beneficial to your pet. I would highly recommend you bringing your pets here! - Jerri Ikuta

My little one was very anxious at first and he did a great job helping put her at ease and making the experience feel much less stressful. The appointment itself was very thorough and everyone took the time to explain everything clearly without making me feel rushed. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The office is also immaculate and very well kept, which immediately made a great impression. Another huge plus was how easy it was to get an appointment. I called midweek and was able to get a Saturday appointment, which is extremely convenient for those of us who can't typically make weekday visits work. Overall, a really positive experience and I'm very glad we chose this office

We had to put our beLOVEd cat to sleep yesterday. Since it was an emergency hospital, we couldn't just show up at the appointment time but wait about 90 minutes, which was hard but I understand other pets had emergency situations. The all female staff (?) were kind, calm, and wonderful. This team must enjoy working together. The process was polished and caring, and Dr. Crossin made us feel like she's known us and our little boy for years. I miss him so much already and I'm happy this place was here for us. ************************ I'm surprised at how low the Yelp rating is here. My best guess is that when people love an animal and have to spend big bucks on emergency surgeries and such, the frustration bleeds thru to reviews. In life or death scenarios, our emotions run high and sometimes expect too much from people who can only do so much? Nothing about our experience here indicated haphazard or inconsiderate care, for what that's worth.

On the early morning of May 7th, I brought my dog in for labored breathing. After X-rays, the vet determined he had an asthma attack caused by allergies and that his lungs were inflamed. They administered an injection to calm his breathing and sent us home with steroids. However, by 4:00 AM on May 8th, his breathing was still strained, so we returned. He received another injection and a prescription for Albuterol. Unfortunately, the pharmacy process became a nightmare. A local CVS could not fill the script due to technical errors in the way it was written. I then placed an order through Chewy.com on the morning of May 8th. By May 10th, Chewy confirmed they were still waiting for the clinic's approval. When I called the clinic to follow up, I had the misfortune of speaking with Naomi. I explained that my dog had been struggling to breathe for two days and asked why the approval was being delayed. She was incredibly rude and insensitive. When I expressed my desperation to get my dog his medication, she told me that if he couldn't breathe, I should simply "take him to a different clinic." When I told her I was going to bring him back to AEC, she said they were no longer accepting patients today. When I asked to speak to someone else besides her, she placed me on hold for 25 minutes. When I tried to call back three times from my own phone, the calls were sent immediately to hold. Suspecting I was being screened, I called from a friend's phone, Naomi answered immediately. When I asked why I was being sent straight to hold, she stated she would leave me there until she had "new information." I was so shocked with her condescending tone. I even asked if she was hearing the way she was speaking to me, she replied, "Yes, I am," and put me back on hold. After being left back on hold for several minutes, I hung up and called back. Bella answered the phone. She was the complete opposite of Naomi. Bella went out of her way to help me. I told her I no longer wanted to wait for the approval for Chewy to fill the order and was going to see if I could fill the prescription at Walmart. Bella called around to different Walmart locations to confirm they had the Albuterol in stock. Thanks to Bella, I finally have the medication. While I appreciate the medical diagnosis and Bella's help, Naomi's lack of compassion was unacceptable. No pet owner in distress should be treated with such hostility, especially when the delay involves watching their beloved pet suffering. If you bring your pet here, please be cautious of Naomi's involvement in your care. I have seen other reviews talk about an emergency vet in Redlands. I was not aware there was one. I can't imagine returning to this clinic now after the treatment I received from Naomi.

I brought my 11-year-old 62 lb pit mix to Dr. Farag after her tail tip was bleeding. She was…read moreotherwise in fairly good health and had no respiratory or other symptoms--this was the only issue we were seeing besides the bleeding. We discussed amputation as a way to prevent this from happening again. She stayed overnight on Wednesday, March 25. The next morning they took X-rays of her tail and chest and ran bloodwork. Later that day, Dr. Farag called to say they saw nodules in her chest and that it could possibly be metastasis/tumor or a fungal infection. Because of those findings, he recommended we not proceed with the tail surgery and that we see a specialist. He did say her bloodwork looked fairly okay for her age and that she seemed healthy overall. However, when I picked her up Thursday night and brought her home, she was extremely lethargic. I called immediately and spoke with the front desk about her being unusually low-energy. I was told she received a sedative and that more than a normal amount was given to keep her calm and prevent her from wagging her tail. They said if she still seemed that way the next day, I should bring her back, but otherwise to monitor her over the next few days. On Monday morning, March 30 (about four days after being there), I woke up at 3:30 a.m. to my dog struggling to breathe and unable to hold her head up. Within 10 minutes, she died. It was extremely sudden, and it didn't make sense to me given that she had never shown breathing issues prior to this. The next day I called, but Dr. Farag wasn't available. They told me he would call me back; I never received a call. About a week later, I called again from the original number and explained what happened. The front desk seemed honestly confused by how sudden it was. The following day Dr. Farag called me back. I was not satisfied with how defensive he was or how dismissive he became. I asked whether there was any explanation for how she died so suddenly and whether the sedative could have played a role, especially since I had been told more than the normal amount was given. He immediately said the information I was given was wrong, and then he started reading off doses while telling me to look them up online so that I could see the proper dose was given. He also added in there that it wasn't his practice and that it wasn't his fault or responsibility if the front desk gave me incorrect information amount the dose given. He also ended the call by saying she wasn't a healthy patient, which directly contradicted what he'd told me initially. I understand they found abnormalities in her chest on the X-ray. But for her to die within four days, after being active and otherwise fine beforehand, did not sit right with me. I wasn't calling to accuse anyone--I wanted answers, clarity, and compassion. I also want to note that I'm truly grateful for the vet techs and the front desk staff. They were helpful and empathetic throughout the process. My complaint is specifically with the doctor's responses--his defensiveness and lack of empathy--when I was simply trying to understand what happened. In the end, between wrapping her tail, X-rays, bloodwork, and the radiologist review, I spent around $1,300. It feels unbearable to say, but I feel like I spent $1,300 and went through all of that just for my dog to die shortly after. No it's not about the money if I could've spent thousands more just to keep her here I would have, but I feel I was given false hope when being told that she was fairly healthy, especially since I can see with my own eyes that she was a healthy and active dog. I know you can't predict certain things, but none of it makes sense, considering she never displayed any signs of her being unhealthy. If you bring your senior dog--or any dog--to this clinic, please be cautious. I just wish I had been given more clarity and kindness when I needed answers most. Also, since Dr. Farag was so quick to explain this wasn't his practice, and that misinformation given to me about his patient (my dog) has nothing to do with him, for whoever does own this practice, I would reconsider who you choose to assist with your business.

When I declined a referral to a neurologist for my 7-month-old cat whosuddenly was unable to walk, the vet casually suggested that putting her down was the alternative-- he mentioned this option with complete disregard for my feelings and my pet's well-being. How are those the only two options? He didn't even touch or exam my cat. I asked if bloodwork could be done first since my cat had no injuries, but the vet refused and insisted on x-rays. Even after the x-rays came back normal, the vet doubled down, saying either I go to a specialist or put my cat down. I had to fight for what I believed was another option, and only then did he reluctantly agree to do bloodwork and suggest medication to help with possible inflammation. This should have been discussed from the start, not treated like an afterthought. The most frustrating part? After five days and a visit with a different vet, my cat is now taking steps and on the road to recovery--proving that there were other options all along. Pet owners deserve care, empathy, and clear explanations--not ultimatums. Based on this experience, I would never recommend this clinic.

Headline: Life-Threatening Negligence and Fraudulent Charting - Do Not Trust This Clinic…read moreI am writing this as a medical professional who had to perform my own clinical audit to save my dog from this office's incompetence. My dog, Twinkie, was failed by Dr. Mean and her staff on multiple levels: 1. Fraudulent Documentation & Lack of Physical Exam: The records claim Dr. Mean performed a heart exam on Twinkie. This is a blatant lie; she never even touched my dog. Furthermore, a covering vet performed a suture removal but failed to document any of the clinical concerns we raised. Vitals that were taken by a tech on an intake form were never entered into the formal medical record. 2. Misdiagnosis & Dangerous Over-Medication: Despite Twinkie showing clear signs of anaphylaxis right in front of the staff, they "shrugged it off" and insisted she was having syncope (fainting) due to heart failure. Without proper diagnostics, they jumped straight to a heavy cocktail of Enalapril and Vetmedin and Furosemide. 3. Intentional Withholding of Records: I believe this office intentionally stalled sending my records to the cardiologist. Once they realized a specialist would be reviewing their "work," they likely realized they had jumped the gun. Because they failed to provide the records, I had to act as my own investigator. 4. The Proof is in the Recovery: After connecting the dots myself, I realized the Enalapril was dropping her blood pressure below baseline and the Furosemide was dangerously dehydrating her. I made the clinical decision to stop the medications. Within 24 hours of being off their "treatment," Twinkie was back to her old self--active and barking. A subsequent exam by a different, competent veterinarian confirmed she is healthy, her heart is fine, and she never needed the medication. Final Word: If I hadn't used my own medical background to challenge their narrative, their "treatment" for a non-existent heart condition would have killed my dog. Their clinical notes are vague, their charting is dishonest, and their diagnostic skills are non-existent. Go elsewhere.

Most recently, I brought my cat in for an eye issue and was quoted over $600 for an exam, sedation, tests, and medication. The price immediately felt extremely high, especially for an eye infection, so I decided to call another veterinary clinic to compare. The other clinic examined both of my cat's eyes, and the total cost came out to under $120 including medication. They also determined that sedation was not necessary at all. My cat was calm, friendly, and even purring during the exam, which made me question why sedation was being pushed so strongly at the first clinic. This clinic does not allow pet owners to accompany their animals due to "safety protocols," so it left me wondering how my cat was being handled during the visit. Another frustrating part of the experience is that you don't actually speak directly with the doctor. All communication goes through the technician, who goes back and forth between you and the doctor. As a pet owner, I would much rather speak directly with the veterinarian responsible for my pet's care, instead of receiving information through a middle person. At the other clinic, the doctor was with me during the entire exam, explaining everything step by step, which felt much more transparent and reassuring. What also shocked me was that they mentioned charging a fee for each CPR attempt in case of an emergency. As a worried pet owner, hearing about additional charges like that felt extremely discouraging and overwhelming. Isn't the priority supposed to be protecting the life of the animal under their care? This unfortunately isn't my first bad experience here. During a previous visit, my cat needed a cast. After the procedure, she was still sedated and very sleepy, and the cast fell off immediately after we got home. She had barely moved, so it clearly wasn't my fault or my cat's fault. I called the clinic hoping they would fix it since it appeared to be an issue with how the cast was applied, but they charged me again to redo it. At the time I didn't push for a refund because my cat's wellbeing came first. Looking back now after this second experience, I truly feel I deserve a refund for that cast, since the issue was not caused by anything I did or by my cat. I do want to say that the front desk staff have always been kind and supportive, and I appreciate them. However, overall my experiences with this clinic have been very disappointing. I care deeply about my cat and want a veterinary office that is honest, transparent, and focused on the animal's wellbeing, not adding unnecessary services that dramatically increase the bill. There are other veterinary clinics in the area that provide great care without making pet owners feel this way. I strongly encourage others to seek a second opinion before committing to treatment here.
