The scene: I'm staying over my parents' in Wantagh, and realize the dress I brought for a party that afternoon -- the only thing I had to wear, save for the rain-soaked outfit I arrived in the night before -- hadn't been hemmed. I'm under 5 feet. I need things hemmed. My mom said, ever so encouragingly, that I looked like a cult member. So, I went to Jim Dandy, the place I had my prom dress altered, thinking they could do some sort of temporary iron-on fix. Instead, the tailor took the dress, and as I waited nearby (shush, I was a turtleneck, tights and a coat) hemmed it in 10 minutes, during a busy Saturday morning. I never would have expected such service, especially since I hadn't been going there since I moved out eight years ago. Only downside: some of the threads of the cotton fabric pulled a little, perhaps in the rush, which was a little disappointing. But really, beggars can't be choosers, especially when they look like cult members. read more

Been going here for 15+ years and always had a great experience. Had them preserve 2 baptism outfits, a wedding dress and a communion dress. Always had my dry cleaning done here with great customer service. These past few months have sealed the deal for me to move on. They hired a bunch of High School or Maybe college employees which i am 100% for. The issue is the lack of customer service and care. You walk in and everyone is on their phone, similar To everywhere else, and when i asked questions about dry cleaning I got a hard "I dont know" and it ended there. So i asked about speaking with the manager and the employee gives a hard "hes busy" and walks back to her group of fellow employees. When i dropped my suits off I was asked if I wanted starch, i said no, and the ticket showed a fee for starch. When i addressed it I was told "i didn't hear you, but i don't know how to take it off so next time". I had to go and ask another employee to correct this. The effort is just not there. I didn't give a hard time because they are young kids and the manager needs to work on customer service lessons. For now I switched to a closer to home well rated place. read more

Nasty, rude, condescending and disrespectful customer service from the owner today. I've been going there for years, my husband's work shirts have been laundered for three dollars each forever. The clueless owner who could barely work the computer charged me $42 even though the pickup ticket says $30. Was completely dismissive and rude when asked about it. Brushed me off and said they should be charging me $4.25 each. Which even if that were the case - you handle it better with some customer service and say hey moving forward, we're going to have to charge X amount. You don't just charge someone's card for 30 percent more than whats on the ticket, unannounced and unauthorized. She also made it a huge ordeal to give me back the shirts I was there dropping off. Could not have had more of a condescending attitude. Clearly, she doesn't care or need my money and she made it blatantly obvious with her dismissive attitude. I had 2 white winter coats that had dye from the dark coats that were hung next to each other I had never wore them they were brand new . I took it to them and the manager said he would do everything possible to take it out . Went to pick it up today and the coats look brand new no stains!. I recommend this dry cleaners ! I have been a customer at Jim Dandy for more than 20 Years and customer service has always been excellent until my last 3 encounters at this business. Juan and his staff have always been very respectful and helpful and courteous until now. There is a new Asian lady at this store who seems to think she owns the place and every time I come in there I get an attitude of " you don't like go someplace else," I asked for her name but she walked away from me. This week I brought in coats for storage, She wanted to charge for this. I brought in my prayer shawl to be cleaned and it was always complementary, she wanted to charge me $15. She said "I don't know why it is free ,We charge for everything Only here is free! This is no good" Is this new? Customer service is the key to any business, be it a small or large one. Customer Loyalty has enabled these businesses to operate for so many years. Juan and his team have done this. This woman who refused to give me her name, is going to cause me to look for another cleaner. Trust me there are several in the area. She has the attitude of a Mom and pop small store I have no problem taking my business elsewhere. Again, I want to stress that Juan and the rest of the staff treat us very nicely, but this Asian person, who refused to give me her name , is sending a very clear message that if you don't like it, take your business elsewhere. Again there are several cleaners in the area, some will deliver to your home as well, and they offer the same services as Jim Dandy. I have no problems paying for my service, however I WILL NOT PUT UP WITH THE ATTITUDE OF THIS WOMAN! So, for the short time I am a customer, but next week I am going to find a place that has courteous Customer Service! I want to thank Juan and his team for their years of great service and or you can correct this issue with this nameless Asian lady who claims that "I am the boss here. Dropped off a dress shirt to be cleaned came back to me dirty with like snot on it. Cost are through the roof to get cleaned (Only Here) Every place else is less...Went to have my daughters blanket mended she is little cost 10.00 for a stitch ok whatever. Wanted to have a Towl end mended wanted 20.00 I said you know what never mind. The Nast lady snaps back what did you expect me to do it for free. The Towel is a dish towel 8 inches by 8 inches. I use it in my truck to lean on the leather so I don't sweat. This lady is rude and thinks she can say whatever she wants. Ruined my sweater and then accused me of switching tickets. They shrank one of my favorite sweaters to a child size. I went in to speak to the manager and was treated like a criminal. At 1st the manager told me they cleaned it right and followed the directions. I pointed to the arm holes that were now 1" wide and not even a child could put on. He then went on to tell me they didn't clean it, as the number in the neck didn't match his book. I suggested he look at the camera over the register, as I just paid to pick it up. He was then told by another associate that he was reading the wrong book. With the right book in hand he proceeded to tell me that there was a disgruntle employee that cut the tubes on their machine and water got into the system causing the issue. It's very strange that his 1st thought was to treat me like a criminal vs. remember that a week earlier they had a water issue. He then spoke in circles about insurance claims and nonsense. The sweater was Free People and retailed for $168, but it was more than a year old. I wasn't looking for the full value of the sweater, just an apology and some small reimbursement towards replacing it. When I asked for the $5 I just paid to pick up a ruined sweater. He acted like I was being unreasonable, but ultimately gave me the money. No one should be treated so poorly. All he had to do was own up that a mistake happened(they do in life). Attached are photos of my sweater and the sweater on a reseller site for comparison. He did say he would get back to me after the weekend, but after reading the other reviews and feeling really bad about how I was treated, it is more important that I share this review and warn the community vs. the small compensation he might have given me. I usually go to the Jim dandy on merrick rd & they always do an awesome job on anything I bring to them. This was my first time going to this location since it's closerto me. I brought 4 shirts/sweaters that had small stains on them that probably could've been taken out in the laundry, but they're all my favorite tops so I wanted to make sure they came out nice. I was charged al oat $20 which I didn't care about if they all looked good. I got home and all of them still had stains. Disappointing to say the least. Waste of money since I'm just going to bring them to the other location where they actually do a good job. If you don't get the stains out, then why charge me? The other place will at least tell me "sorry we couldn't get this stain out@ & not charge me for it. read more

Truly less than one star. Going forward, I would NEVER go back there! They damaged the zipper and trim on my winter parka, then treated me like a criminal when I requested they do something. They gave me the run-around (repeatedly saying "come back to see a manager") and after numerous visits, the tailor looked at the parka. He seems like a really nice guy, and did try it fix it. Zipper does not closer properly and trim could not not be repaired. I am beyond disappointed; have to replace an expensive parka because of the the damage they did. read more

Do not use the tailoring services. I brought my suits back 3 times and the tailor(Joe) still didn't get it right. He couldn't even make the sleeves the same length the second time, first they were too long then one was longer than the other. In addition he didn't take the pants in correctly. Over the years I had some tailoring done and occasionally had pieces Day cleaned. I'm absolutely disgusted with this place as I had a brand new Hugo boss suit that I wore all of ONE TIME! This suit cost me $750. Brought it here and picked it up a week later. I don't wear suits often for work, only special occasions. In this case, the suit was on the hanger under the plastic when I picked it up and that's how it was stored in my closet. I unfortunately haven't worn the suit in 2 years and needed it for my fathers funeral. when I took my ONLY suit out of the closet and removed the plastic and took the jacket off the hanger, what do I find...these completely incompetent people lost the pants?!?! How do they lose the freaking pants of a 2-piece suit????? I called and spoke to the Mgr who looked, found my order from 2 yrs ago but of course, didn't find the pants. Finally Spoke to the owner, Kay, after weeks of her not returning my calls. She basically said too bad and that they didn't lose the pants. I wouldn't bring a t shirt to this place for cleaning!! Mentioned my experience to my friend...he told me he stopped going there years ago bc they used some kind of chemicals in his dress shirts. Been coming here for many many years. They do a great job cleaning the clothes & they have drop off in the a.m. & pick up in the p.m. I have also used their tailor & I've always been happy. I brought something in for tailoring yesterday at 3 pm & picked it up today at noon. Doesn't get better than that. Prices are competitive & service is fast with a smile . jim dandy cleaners screws customer for value of three shirts two weeks before christmas. incompetent tailor. my agreed to pay $100 to have 3 new shirts altered, 50% of what the shirts cost him! michael, the wize guy manager is a liar and failed to reimburse my for his ruined shirts as promised. on his fifth trip back to the store his mother went with him to complain and she was told by michael, the matter would be resolved and if this is all we have to worry about we are lucky. michael had me come back to the store again and said he had a connection with the shirt company and he would attempt to get me my money back from them, although they didn't do anything wrong. on my suxth trip to jim dandy cleaners, michael, the now identified as the general manager by the owner of the store who just happened to show up. michael and now the owner threatened me to leave the store and take him to court. new business shirts were ruined and unwearable because the tailor was incompetence. failure to get professional services hired for. my son brought in 3 new dress business shirts to be altered, the arms to be taken in because he is a weight lifter and must purchase a bigger shirt. note: the shirts were new and the tailor took in the sleeves, removed material. he got the shirts back and tried them on. he could barely get his arms in the sleeves, obviously not the result wanted. to make a long story short they never corrected the sleeves properly and the shirts were ruined, with material removed and the sewing stitching very visible and unwearable. numerous trips back to the store and each time the shirts were not repaired and i was told by the manager michael on the fifth trip to the store that he would make good on the shirts. my son went back the sixth time and was told there was nothing they were going to do and take them to court. my son offered to accept a store credit for the value of the shirts but the manager michael said take them to court and he wasn't doing anything. jim dandy cleaners is a million dollar business and is screwing a young man out of his new business and their value of $200. jim dandy is. scrooge screwing a person out of his $200 two weeks before christmas. read more

Hello all!, First off let me say that the service I have the first of the two times that I used this place was fantastic, the only problem was the attention to detail. I'm in the military and I explained to the tailor vividly about to sewn on collar devices and he halfway listened and "yeah yeah yeah" me to death, to my surprise every collar device was upside down and backwards; a dry cleaner on North Jerusalem in Levittown I believe, it's Ann's cleaners got it right and the guy barely spoke English. That was about 3 1/2 years ago. I went to Dandys recently with my dress whites folded in such a way where it showed where the creases were, and it's as if the guy totally ignored what I was saying as I reminded him four times during the conversation the creases have to go this way, like the way it's folded (obvious permanent creases) and it's simple; fell on deaf ears. Listen I'm not totally bashing them, they are great for certain things; but they hire young kids to take the orders (not their fault I mean I worked jobs like this when I was young and the "older" tailor cannot be told by some "kid" what to do and God forbid his pride is hurt. My wife went in today and net with Mike they said they did not have it. My wife produced a ticket and they were able to locate the suit and have her an attitude I will vote with my feet! read more

Disgusting customer service. Brought 4 pieces for tailoring on a Wednesday morning; asked if they could be done by Friday but the tailor said Saturday was more likely - ok, fine. Saturday afternoon I returned to find my items were not only incomplete, they had yet to even be started! The tailor apologized up and down and told me to come back in 2 hours (even though I had to go to work). I called and spoke with a manager prior to returning who essentially told me it was my own fault for coming in too early to pick up my pieces and that he wouldn't be doing anything to remedy the situation or compensate me - in fact, he told me the price was actually going to be $10 MORE than what I was initially quoted. When I tried to argue this fact he told me "just come back at 3 and pick up your shit" and hung up on me. I returned to the store to pick up my items; it still took them quite a few minutes to locate my clothes. I made a point to inform the man I spoke with that he was extremely rude and should never speak to a customer in that manner and his response was something along the lines of "I'm a grown ass man who runs my own business, if I didn't care about my customers I wouldn't be standing here." He refused to do any sort of price adjustment and essentially spent the remainder of the transaction trying to assert his authority as his young female employees looked on and tried not to laugh. I barely got an apology for the entire situation; walked out $60 poorer and in definite need of a new tailor. TL;DR - the manager (/owner?) is a condescending prick who only cares about his bottom line and not his clients' satisfaction. Quoted me for $50, ended up swindling me out of $60 for "alterations" that weren't even completed on time and spent the entire day belittling me and turning the situation around to make it look like I was the one at fault. read more

I may as well put my shirts in the bathroom while I take a scolding hot shower, it may honestly dewrinkle better than whatever they're doing in the back. Back story. I had a YUGE conference coming up right after a long vacation. As usual, I brought my dry cleaning here (7 polyester flex fit shirts, 3 pairs of pants). I came back a day later, the day before my business conference, to 7 wrinkled shirts handed back to me. Of course, I asked for an explanation. The girl behind the counter said they couldn't figure out how to press this material. I mean, I'm no expert by any means, but isn't that your job? Long story short, I had to go buy a new shirt the morning of and absolutely merked the conference in the name of Jim Dandy himself. TERRIBLE ALTERATIONS! SUPER OVERPRICED! I brought two dresses to be altered here. One dress does not hold the same shape that they originally did and had to be RE-DONE! The other is still too long (so much that I'm tripping on it). And, to top it all off... they BOTH came back with stains on them!! You must be kidding. If you're going to stain my dresses, at least bring them to the cleaners 4 steps away from your desk and get them cleaned. And for all of this, she completely overcharged me. Although I stand by my good review a few months ago... my recent experience was less than satisfactory. I asked for two things (kilts) to be altered and dry cleaned and to have a pocket fixed on a pair of jeans. When I came in for pick up they told me they didn't have time to clean the jeans. Hmmmm... I asked for the kilts to be cleaned (I mean why would I want jeans dry cleaned when they can go in the washer?). Even so, they had all three items for a week-why wasn't anything cleaned? I needed the kilts for tonight so I took the dirty altered garments home, but they just lost me. A shame too since I liked their alterations department a lot. read more

They helped me out SO MUCH with my bridesmaid dress that I needed major work done on in the tailoring department. I had gotten screwed by Burton's Bridal and needed the work done in 5 days, and these tailors were courteous, knowledgeable, and the work was perfection. I was so thankful that they pressed the gown and meticulously stored it for me so that it look better than it did the day I took it to them. The price was well worth it, and I think that their prices are the best in the area. They work on everything from jeans to evening gowns, I'll be coming back to them for years! read more
