Decent Repairs, Toxic Atmosphere **Pros:** The basic service…read morehere is okay. They fixed the AC on my vehicle, and the work itself was fair and reasonably priced. **Cons:** The actual experience of being in this shop is deeply uncomfortable. The owners possess extreme, egocentric, and radical views that they do not hesitate to push onto customers. Walking into this business feels like stepping straight back into a Jim Crow-era South atmosphere. **Verdict:** While they can handle basic mechanical repairs, the hostile and backwards environment makes it completely unsupportable. No matter how fair the AC repair was, the deeply unsettling interactions are simply not worth it. I will not be returning, and I highly recommend looking elsewhere if you prefer to do business in the 21st century.

It goes without saying that finding a good mechanic is a challenge. The right balance of expertise,…read morehonesty, and value is hard to come by. Valpo Muffler is one of the best I've found the area. We have used their repair services twice in the past six months for exhausted related issues, and both times have been fantastic. For each issue, the owner, John, personally inspected our car and gave a free estimate for the repairs. The work was done quickly and in line with the very reasonable cost they quoted. What makes Valpo Muffler exceptional though are the little things. It's wonderful to find a mechanic who is not only good and fair but also friendly. When unexpected exhausted issues cropped up with our Honda Civic, John got us in that afternoon and completed our repairs in less than a hour. Of course, more complicated issues would have taken longer, but it was wonderful seeing a mechanic put his customer's needs first. A few things to note - Valpo Muffler does service most automotive issues but it is only a non-electrical mechanic meaning they only service issues with drive train, engine, exhaust, etc - they do not handle body, electrical, or computer services. They also will give you no-fuss, free visual estimates right there but any diagnostic testing will come with a fee. With this in mind, you cannot find many mechanics much better than the folks at Valpo Muffler.

Told me to get there before they close if I want to talk to the guy who did it. I said I didn't have a ride so can you have the guy who did it call me. He said they were busy and if I want to talk to them I need to find my way to the shop before they close. So I asked to talk to Mike the owner, he was recommended to me by the guy who I bought my car from, but Mike is also busy and he would leave him and message and see if he might call me back. I just want to know what was done on my car! If I can't get there before closing you want me to pay and you'll leave the key but you won't tell me what work was done! I had a couple simple questions and he was so rude!!

We went on a Saturday around 1pm it was pretty busy because they have a hand car wash too. All of the bays were full and employees working hard came. However, they were fairly quick and allow you to wait in your car or inside. They also have benches outside for you to wait as well. If all those options aren't enough you can walk over to Bombers BBQ and get a bite to eat while you wait (this would be my personal recommendation) . The manager was super helpful. He was very honest about what our car needed and what it didn't need. He also took the time to explain in detail when we asked questions. While we were waiting inside for them to finish up I observed him help a few more customers. He even didn't charge an older woman for some service and told her to just come back the next time she needs service. Wearing a mask wasn't enforced, but in Indiana there aren't any mandates currently so what can ya do.

On April 1st my wife took her car to Valvoline Auto Care in Portage Indiana to have her oil…read morechanged. I had ordered oil for the car from Amazon as I change all my own stuff. It was slow in coming for some reason. I told her to go get it changed. On April 2nd I proceeded to change the oil myself as I thought she had not gotten it changed. I had drained the oil into a pan and removed the filter as well. My wife came into the garage and asked what I was doing? I told her I was changing her oil as it needed it. She responded by telling me it had been done the prior day. I responded that they had NOT changed the oil! The oil I had drained had a gasoline smell to it and was dirty and thin. It clearly was NOT changed. Here's the kicker. I write the mileage and the date on my oil filters so I know their history. Lo and behold, there was MY oil filter! I showed her the oil and the filter. It's incontrovertible proof they had NOT done the service. No reset of the mileage counter occurred either. It was closing time and I'll bet these kids just wanted out of there on a Friday night. The manager really dropped the ball as there was a trainee involved. I contacted Valvoline corporate. After wrangling with them and speaking to the manager of the shop they denied my claim. After having it kicked up the chain of command they issued a refund. The store manager also lied to me saying I would need a subpoena to look at the video of the car being serviced. (bullshit) I told them that I would hire counsel if that's what I needed to do. That's when I got the refund. So, how many people have they stolen from in this manner? It's not me I'm fighting for. The cost of the oil change was less than $125 dollars. I could miss that and be ok I assure you. They just blew it and would not make it right. I tussled with this issue with them for 5 days. How many older ladies have they cheated? If I had not thought the oil needed changing that car would have been driving around for how long on old oil? I have no idea as they didn't reset the mileage. It said she needed an oil change as she was pulling out of the store. Anyway, don't go to Valvoline. In any state or area. Also, the manager, kendal is a completely inept person and is over her head. She was rude and lied to me over the phone as to my needing a subpoena to watch the video tapes they take of every oil change. This was a lie and corporate told me it was a lie. Stay away. Stay FAR AWAY!
