Lamb Jhapali Thali : Rice in the middle with a crispy thin type of bread similar to a tortilla. a spicy sauce, gulab jamun ( round heavy cake like with a honey sauce), yogurt, lentil soup, lamb , spinach and a cauliflower vegetable with spices. Came here with my love for dinner. We're both fans of Indian food, and we eat it often, since he loves it, and it works well for both of our dietary preferences (he's a vegetarian, and I'm not). The decor is pretty simplistic, although the furniture is beautiful. It looks pretty dark outside, and the neon "open" sign is the only indication that they're open. We were seated quickly, as it was empty when we arrived, although two more couples showed up after us. We ordered our favorites, chicken tikka masala for me, palak (saag) paneer for him. As an appetizer, we had puri with a vegetable curry that was AMAZING. I wish we'd ordered more of that, because the rest of our food was a bit underwhelming. Well, he enjoyed his saag paneer, even though it was made differently than he was used to. My chicken tikka masala was VERY buttery, which was very odd for me, and not what I'm used to. I wanted to like it, but I couldn't. The Service was okay, but when we got the check, the prices were ALL different than what was listed on the menus that were handed to us. When we pointed out the discrepancy, all we got was "well, the prices are correct in our computer, would you like to see?" No, but you should PRINT NEW MENUS WITH UPDATED PRICING, instead of gaslighting your customers for a problem that you created and refuse to properly fix. Ridiculous. Eat somewhere else, ideally at a place with the CORRECT prices listed on the menu. read more

We would normally not choose Himalayan or Nepalese cuisine. When visiting friends insisted, I jumped. Great flavour but certain dishes were clearly premade and re-heated upon order.Especially the rice. Not fluffy and it was clumped. Chicken Tikka Masala was popular at our table. All the curries had great kick to them, but not too overboard. The Shrimp Vandaloo clears the sinuses, nicely. lol. Goat Ko Sekuwa is their very best dish, thus far. I believe it's the green chilies and tomatoes that do it. Some portions were generous, others were lacking. The crowd was small, almost non-existent. So it was intimate. The service was terrific and very attentive. I had trouble communicating. But it's easy getting past that. They try very hard to accommodate. It wasn't the greatest meal, wasn't the worst. I'm so glad we decided to try this place! I was sharing a thali with a friend who only likes mild food, so I asked if I could have a spicy chutney, too. All the food was delicious, and our chai, too. Another friend with me ordered momos, and he said they're the best he has had in Columbus. So good he took another friend back the next day! It's such a cute place, so next time I'll order in. Ordered takeout and and they said 25 min wait. So I want to pick up the food at about 40 minutes, and it wasn't even done. End up having to wait another 45 minutes there ! The worker said because other people ordered before me. Wtf? Then why did you say 25 min? Lame. The food was small portions and not very good at all. Chicken tiki masala tasted bad compared to anywhere else I have had it. The lamb saag was actually decent. They gave me plain naan instead of garlic. They messed up the interaction so much and the food was not even good. I do not recommend this place. I will never go back. No way they stay in business long. Food had good flavor and nice level of spice, although doesn't seem like Jhapali receives enough business circulation to prepare and serve FRESH food with each order - food texture and taste makes me think it was prepared days earlier and then simply reheated.. which is a shame, because the menu is intriguing. Portion sizes were like a lunch order at dinner prices and takeout was rather messy pulling the containers out of the bag. Wanted to like this place more, I've gotten takeout several times and it's a pretty consistent experience - interior looks nice but nobody's ever in there, just think they're in a poor location and could do a lot better in a more lively area. read more

Such an incredible meal! They have an extensive menu. I got a chicken Thali and was completely stuffed. Happy that everything came on the traditional stainless steel tray ringed by 1/2 cup portions of dahl, protein choice, curried veg, and saag (cooked greens) with a papadum, coriander/mint chutney and traditional Nepali yogurt (dahi) homemade on site. Each dish was traditional as close to being in a local restaurant in Kathmandu as I've ever had. Their Chai tea again took me back to walking outside the tourist areas of Nepal and having a cup at someone's home. Nicely decorated and plenty of parking next door to the GN International Grocery which had an amazing selection of Asian produce as well as canned and dry goods. Can't wait to go back! The manager/server/bartender was such a nice person. When I exclaimed how much I missed the Nepali yogurt style he offered to bring me more. And I asked for a larger portion to bring home! Well well well, I am going to come out and say it. This is the best Indian food on the east side of 270 - hands down. The minute we walked in we were greeted and were sat at a corner booth. We walked by a table full of older ladies who were there for the first time based on a recommendation. All of their food looked amazing and they were raving about the taste, perfect entry for a first time visit. The restaurant was very clean and the bar was organized well. The menu was extensive and had a ton of items I wasn't familiar with, and some I ended up googling to see what the ingredients were. We started out with the chicken 65 and it was super crispy with a nice heat building dry rub on it. We got three different meals and three different naan breads. Chicken Korma, Chicken Manchuan, and chili chicken. All were super unique with three different parts of the chicken represented. The larger pieces were very juicy and everything fell right apart as you dig into it. The sauces were very authentic with the Korma having a nice slow heat building from the addition of the chilis. The star of the show was the naan breads for sure. We got the paneer, garlic, and chili type breads and they were all unique and perfectly cooked. They were cooked so well that it was simple to utilize them and spoons to grab the rest of the meals! We will definitely be coming back to try the rest of their menu for sure!! read more

I'm giving Jhapali four stars because I appreciate the culture it brings to Columbus and the staff was so friendly. Because of this, it makes the restaurant inviting. We both ordered traditional Nepali dishes, but there are Indian dishes on the menu, as well. I liked that my meal had a big bowl of rice with so many separate fixins -- including lamb, lentils, spinach etc. Each were flavorful and made the experience unique. Unfortunately, the chicken dumplings and shrimp/rice bowl were less flavorful, but still satisfying. On a side note, you must get a mango lassi; this drink is always on point. What a wonderful restaurant! We went here on a Thursday night and it was not too crowded. The place was clean and the staff friendly and attentive. We ordered the vegetable and paneer pakoras along with biryani, lamb thali, and palak paneer. The portions were good size and everything well cooked. We had one person of our party who is sensitive to spice and her dish came out spicier than expected for getting the mild but otherwise the rest of us were pleased. Definitely worth a try! read more

The interior of the restaurant seems a little spartan with the floor and ceiling being very typical white tiles you'd see in something like a grocery store, which takes away a little with the rest of the furniture which looks quite nice. I don't care about this, but it was my first time there, it does make you wonder if the food is going to be good when the decor seems unfinished. But I was definitely glad I stayed and ate at this lovely restaurant. It's a mom and pop restaurant and I'm sure the budget for decor is limited. So it isn't a complaint in the slightest from me, I'd just hate for someone to turn away because it isn't as fancy inside as other restaurants might be. The word "Serendipity" is not often used anymore but in this case, it definitely fits. We started with the Samosa Chaat as an appetizer, it was delicious. Nice space, nice staff, and easily some of the best food in the area. When the dishes came out, I was worried they were on the small side. My favorite Indian restaurant in Columbus! Service can take a while if they're busy, but everyone is so friendly and the food is always fresh. The mango lassi is incredible and the samosa chaat is the best appetizer on the menu. We LOVE the momos as well- the chili ones are the best. This Indian and Nepali restaurant is new to Pickerington. It's owned by three brothers. It was nice chatting with the one wife, who was running the front of house mostly. I went with my go-to dish when trying a new restaurant - Chicken Korma. My main criteria is tender chicken chunks, the cashew flavor, and good basmati rice. I'm going with a 2/3: the dish had a decent amount of chicken chunks, all which were somewhat tender, for the most part. The Korma sauce was definitely interesting. No sweet tones, necessarily; more savory notes. I could pull out the subtle yogurt flavor - hints of, something, pucker maybe, but not pucker at all - I can't think of the right words to describe. Definitely, just... Different. The rice was your plain-jane, but came out nice and hot. We ordered chicken Dumplings - MOMOs, Nepali Sekuwa and Noodles- Chaumein. Chicken Momo is very tasty, Chaumein was good, it was bit different from other North Indian restaurants.
