My appointment was for 9 AM, and they took the car in a little bit earlier, and I was paying for the services and walking out the door at around 9:25 AM. No screwing around here, they get the job done promptly and correctly. Tire pressures were set; the air and cabin filters were checked. Neither one needed servicing or replacement. Staff are an honest bunch of hard-working people. They are trustworthy, and I look forward to the next visit. Strong's is a long time family business, which in the 1950's and 60's was in East Hartford next to…read moremy elementary school. Who knew that many years later, we would be reunited and become BFFs? These days, Strong's is computerized and high tech, but it still maintains the nice, friendly, comfortable feeling of an old time neighborhood mechanic whom you know, like and trust. Strong's could not have stayed in business and thrived for 60+ years without a reputation for integrity, honesty, repair work done correctly (and on time) and very reasonable prices. Not to mention, they're friendly, kind, helpful and seem to really care about their customers and their cars. When I moved to South Windsor 6 years ago, I found Strong's, and I trust them to maintain and repair my geriatric 2002 Lexus sports utility. It probably will need a lot of service to keep it going, and fortunately Strong's prices are very reasonable, so I can afford it. Being a woman, it's not easy to find a mechanic who I can trust to not take advantage of my lack of knowledge about cars. I totally trust Strong's as they're honest, ethical, reliable, always available, and do great work that's guaranteed. In fact, I trust Strong's so much that last Friday, when they delivered my car to my home, as a huge favor for me, I didn't know what the total invoice was, so I gave them a blank check to take back to Strong's to fill in the $. When I used to take my car to the dealer for service, I felt like a lamb going to the slaughter (financially) but at Strong's I feel like I'm going to trusted friends who are there to help me with my car. I appreciate the many times I've called Strong's for an "emergency" and they always tell me to come right in. They usually spend 10-20 minutes fixing the issue or reassuring me that it's not dangerous, and can be repaired later. And then, unbelievably, they won't let me pay for it, no matter how much I insist. I enjoy seeing Strong's cheerful employees who seem to like their jobs, employer, as well as happy, chatty customers in the waiting room who have been Strong's customers forever!

They were courteous, respectful, very quick and thorough. They repaired my Subaru, worked with the insurance company ( the value of the quote) and made it look as if nothing had happened to it. They even detailed inside of my car and replaced the cover on the driver side seat that I told them that would pay out of pocket for because it was not part of the accident but they fixed it anyways with no charge. We brought our vehicle to People's Auto for a couple issues before taking a long road trip, one of…read morewhich was a spongy brake pedal. The mechanics bled the brake system, and it felt somewhat better, so we assumed the issue was fixed and went on our way. This vehicle was new to us at the time, so we weren't sure what the brakes should normally feel like. During the trip we noticed pulsating when braking, so when we got home we brought it to another local shop closer to our home to change the pads and rotors. We were then informed that the rotors needed to be changed as expected, and also that our caloper bolts were loose and that some washers were missing, to the point where brake fluid was squirting out all over 1 of the wheels. This definitely should have been caught by People's Auto when they were diagnosing the issue of the spongy brake pedal. Since they did not fix the issue the money we paid them was a waste, and we had to pay another shop to fix the same issue. Due to their location it was not convenient for us to return to People's Auto to try to have them resolve the issue, but even if we did the wait time for our initial appointment was 2 weeks.

At one point it would randomly turn off, and not turn back on for a couple of minutes. Sometimes it just wouldn't start. The engine started to become shakey and hesitant. I tried a variety of shops; some would get it running for a little while, but the problems would return. They all charged a lot, and did very little. After the VW dealer wanted hundreds just for the parts to replace my oil tray (not including oil, oil change, labor or 'glue') I started really digging in to find speciality VW shops. Arriving at People's auto, I was skeptic to say the least. The garage is in the woods (fairly inconvenient) and may lack 'curb appeal'. My hesitation flew out the window when I started to describe some of my problems. "Oh, I know exactly waht that is" was the response (as opposed to the blank stares I had been growing used to in mechanics) turns out, it was just an adjustment to my 02 sensor, and new spark plugs. He replaced the oil tray, gave me a tune up and a once over, all for less than buying the tray at the VW dealership. I picked up the car the next day, and it was running better than the day I bought it. I went to people's auto for the better part of a year every time my car had a slight problem, or needed an oil change (after going there, my car had very few problems... excpet the ones that were clearly my fault). They guys are funny, friendly, fair and most importantly they know what they're doing. While I'm happy at Luis Lein's in somerville... I still day dream about dropping off my car at People's Auto, knowing it would get a once over to prevent future problems. I thought about knocking off a star for the location. I almost got killed by a speeding truck the last time I was there... but honestly, if this place operated at their prices any closer to hartford, I never would have been able to get an appointment.

I stopped at State Line just before getting on the interstate to head back to NJ. I asked if they had an air pump on-site that I could use. The gentleman at State Line (he was a gentleman) got a portable air pump, filled the tire with air, checked the pressure on all the other tires to make sure that all had the same pressure, and advised me to bring the car in for tire service at home if the tire lost pressure. He would not accept any payment from me for his work. I could not pay him in cash, so I offer this review in lieu of payment. A very rewarding experience.

Long Appreciation Post…read more A couple weeks ago, I was rear ended on 91 by a hit and run driver who did not brake for the stopped traffic. I am extremely grateful for my Ford Explorer for keeping me safe and being able to walk away without injury. In need of a whole new back end of my Explorer, I chose Johnson's Auto Body in Tolland to repair my car because of a positive referral. I cannot express HOW INCREDIBLE they were!!! Renee, who works the office, was AN ABSOLUTE ANGEL and walked me through the entire process. She was genuinely empathtic and consistently reassured me that "I, and my Explorer, are in very good hands" and that "I was going to get it back and it'll look like nothing ever happened." She sent me a text message every day with an update on the car, insurance or just to see how I was doing and feeling. Sure enough, I got my Explorer back and it looks PERFECT!! If you are ever in need of any body work, PLEASE consider this amazing, small business.
