I've shopped here several times and honestly don't understand the negative reviews. My experiences have always been excellent, especially in the meat department. Louis has helped me on multiple visits -- he's consistently polite, friendly, and even points out sales or great deals I might have overlooked. We purchased a custom cake from their bakery and I don't think they spent 5 minutes decorating it. It was the most disappointing cake I've ever received. Maybe I didn't ask the right questions, but they for *sure* did not ask me the right questions when I was ordering my cake. They don't even handwrite the "Happy Birthday" message. It's typed out, printed, and it looks cheap. We used to get amazing cakes from them when we were kids, but apparently that time has come and gone. Will never order another cake from them and will steer everyone clear from every Jewel's bakery section. I should have complained while I was in-store and not even taken the cake home, but I decided an awful looking cake is better than no cake for my party. My family has been shopping at Jewel's since I can remember (and I'm 69). I shopped at this store exclusively for my elderly Ma, who lived nearby, and therefore for our Family for years. It was always pleasant. Mom passed about 7 months ago, and the grocery gathering has now become the provenance of Lady Wife. She prefers Meijer, and I cannot stand to set foot in that place. As I know where everything is at at this Jewel store, I come here when I need something-but haven't been here in a while. Well. The selection has become horrible, the prices are through the roof, and there is a dearth of service. I stopped there this morning for bath tissue, Coke Zero, decaf Tea, and peanut butter (among other sundry items) I learned they had a bunch of fussy brands, perhaps aimed at "discriminating palettes". (Not in the toilet paper--apparently there is no such thing as discriminating bungholes). I could not find the common brands I wanted for my needs. What in the actual F? What I did find was overpriced. I was in a time crunch, so I bit the bullet and left about $105 for stuff not of the brands I wished. The checkout gal was nice, but possessed a thick accent. I had to bag my own stuff. Aaaargh! At these prices, they should send someone home to cook for me. Looks like next time I'll have to bite the bullet and shop at the dreaded Meijer-or maybe the Mariano's nearby. Wal-Mart is prolly cheaper then them all, but who wants to shop at Wal-Mart? We only have Jewel Osco, Aldi, and Walmart nearby. Each store is good for some things, or they have exactly what we want at that price. I recommend Jewel for certain things. As for their meat, not so good. When I buy meat they have the worst cuts and I always find black specks all over it. Sometimes a lot ...., I asked the butcher about it and she claimed it's from the packaging. I know styrofoam can be unsafe if heated. Not sure if they still press the plastic down with that heat method. Is this safe? Should I be worried? What chemical are in our food from this? These days all I hear is cancer this, cancer that. Can this packaging lead to that is a couple of years. Am I the only one thinking this? read more

Went to the pharmacy 15 minutes before they closed to pick up one item, and I had a goodrx coupon for it. The tech (Marquita) was argumentative about putting the new goodrx coupon on there because she "couldn't promise that it was going to be that price," despite me telling her that it would probably be a $5 difference like there was the previous time. Instead of checking to see what I paid last time, or at least trying to add the coupon, she refused to add it. I know it was 15 minutes until closing, but there was no one in the line behind me so she could have easily added it in less than 2 minutes. I worked in retail pharmacy, so I know. Very poor service and I will not be returning. For context the Goodrx coupon that I showed last month had a price of $6.85, but once the tech added the coupon last month, it brought the price down to a dollar and some change, although the website showed $6.85. That's a whole $5 difference. Goodrx is just one of those things where you won't really know the price until you do the rebill. Both the pharmacist and tech dismissed everything I was trying to explain about the new goodrx coupon. Simply put, it was 15 minutes before closing and they just didn't feel like doing a quick re-bill with the new coupon because they were both lazy or just ready to go. Either way, that had nothing to do with me or my medicine and the pharmacy was still opened with 15 minutes to spare, and they should not treat customers that way. If they don't want to work in healthcare and actually care about the customers, they need to find another career because that whole experience was unacceptable and they both should be ashamed of themselves for not even trying to help. read more

This store is going down hill. They used to have baggers and people to offer help with your groceries to your car. They are so overpriced and offer nothing for this extra cost. If I'm bagging my own groceries I'll go to a store that charges less. Their grocery pickup is also a scam! They will substitute groceries even when told not too and scam by substituting things so that you don't get the deals. I ordered 4 boxes of cereal for 1.99 each, they substituted 2 boxes and therefore I did not get the deal. My bill went up about 20$. I went into the store and there was plenty of the item that I ordered that they said was not in stock! I had to cancel the order and am still waiting for a refund. They have told me three times now to wait 5-7 business days for a refund. For some reason they are not refunding my money! They just hope that you forget about the refund and go away. I've been coming here for years with my family ever since it was opened. We used to go to the one in Yorkville but this one is closer and more convenient for me. Many of the people at this jewel know my parents pretty well and know who I am and are always very friendly. I turned 21 in August and have been coming to this Jewel to buy wine. My drivers license has not been swapped out with a new one yet, but it doesn't expire for another 2 weeks and I don't feel the need to spend $30 on something that still has 2 weeks worth. Now, I understand that not having the correct license for buying any type of alcohol is something to be turned down for. However, every time I've bought wine from this Jewel they would always scan my card or put my birthdate in and everything would be fine. I do not own a fake card, and have had the same one since I was 17. Tonight I was turned down because the lady at the counter told me that it could be a fake and she doesn't know. Understandable, but very inconsistent for a store to allow me to buy alcohol every time and then all of a sudden point out it could be fake and they can't accept it anymore. Also really embarrassing to be 21 and told you can't buy wine. It doesn't help that the lady told me it could be a fake. Again, I understand the circumstance and the lady was just doing her jobX but at least keep your store consistent with purchases and regulation of alcohol. I normally never write reviews for places with negative feedback because I personally hate being "that person" but I do have to say the last visit I had at this location was incredibly troubling. It's a Sunday, so typically a lot of people go grocery shopping for their food on this day so they have their meals for the week. I stood in line and as I was watching the cashier scan the ladies food in front of me I noticed how slow he was going. He THEN looked at the bagger and was like "wait did I scan some of that?" Had to look at the computer, go back, scan some stuff in the cart and then went back to scan the rest. MY TURN comes up. He once again, very uninterested in picking up the pace, starts questioning whether he scanned things or not lol here I am hoping he isn't scanning things twice. THEN he starts complaining about how tired he is and how EVERYONE is shopping. Starts to say the reason why we are all shopping on this lovely Sunday afternoon is because we're "Christian" and "christians shop on Sunday's" said we are KEEPING HIM FROM TAKING A BREAK after he hasn't had one in 3 hours. I didn't know How to respond so I just said Sorry?? But really I am the customer...thanks for making me feel bad for you having to do your job?? I am not a religious person but if I had been, I would have been pretty offended by his comment. And suck it up buttercup, your job is to stand and ring stuff up. Go get a office job where you can sit on your butt all day if you can't handle it. I really like this location and I will still be going back for my weekly groceries. This is only a mile from our house. Every time we go in one or two express lanes open and one full service. And the lines are long. Today moldy strawberries, moldy fruit, green grapes are brown, the whole milk 1/2 gallon Deans all were expired. Floor is dirty with bits of garbage everywhere. The produce is sad looking. Complaining about not being able to buy wine because YOU DIDN'T HAVE PROPER ID...really? Grow up Miss I Just Turned 21. Griping about bees in the drive up pharmacy area - this is IL and we have insects in the summertime. Having a hissy because sales involve buying certain quantities? All stores in our area do that. SO here is MY review: Great selection of meats and produce, always fresh and high quality. I have never ended up with any moldy fruits/veg or expired items in my cart. This location has a great deli - service is pretty quick and they actually listen when you ask them to slice thin. I use the mymixx program and shop sales so Jewel CAN be an affordable shopping experience comparable in price to the low cost/low service local competitor. I like that their cashiers seem to be trained to provide customer service; they aren't yakking amongst themselves, sniping about co-workers or gossiping. This store also immediately opens new lanes up when it gets busy so wait time to check out is always minimal. Baked goods are delicious; I do find those to be a bit too expensive so I wish those prices were lower. But this Orchard Rd Jewel location earns my 5 stars after years of purchases and overall high level of satisfaction. read more

I have the worst experiences at Jewel-Osco pharmacies number one there are entire swarm of wasps at the pharmacy drive-through every time I go i darn near get a wasp in my car or get stung every time. Every time I try to drop off a prescription the lady will not answer the window she want to speak to you she acts as if it's an inconvenience to even go to the window I spent another 12 minutes waiting at the window until I had to just leave because she will not help you. I'm taking my prescription somewhere else I'm sick and tired of the ridiculously poor treatment that I consistently get there I'm surprise have any business at all. RE: Order #99279 Pick-Up Date/Time: Saturday, Nov 14 after 2pm Order total: $333.90 Let me start by saying this was my first experience having Jewel prepare a variety of deli trays, grilled chicken and bakery items for an occasion. The online order process was a breeze & the customer service I received by phone to offer reasonable substitutions for items they lacked within my trays was commendable. The one issue that almost made the evening a complete disaster.. Pick-Up! I arrived at 245p for my scheduled 'after 2pm' Promise time; everything was prepared & ready to go. No complaints there. The issue was how they delivered the selections to me. UNPROTECTED by a catering box! Each tray was placed in a total of two shopping carts (top & bottom of both carts filled). The containers (lid tops & bottoms) weren't a perfect fit, so they were buckling a bit at the slightest adjustment of trying to load the carts to get me to the checkout counter. My order had 12-15 servings each of finger sandwiches, veggie trays, deviled eggs, and one tray a variety of salads. Juices from the food were spilling onto the floor from the salad tray; as well as from my 48pc pan of grilled chicken, only one tray in my ENTIRE order was in a catering box (which is designed for these issues & for easy transport!) They young lady was very apologetic and we managed to get the two carts to checkout without spillage. That is until the young man that bagged my other items offered to help me to my car. Just outside the door, one container in the cart he was pushing toppled over spilling a serving of Deviled eggs! I felt so bad for the kid. He kept apologizing & offered to take the mangled tray back into the Deli to see what they could do to rectify the situation. Meantime, I proceeded to my car; (accepting help from a shopper that was headed inside the store,) as she assisted me with the carts of trays to my car; we continued being extra careful, lest another tray buckle and my hors-d'oeuves spill all over Jewel's parking lot! The young man came back to my car, handing me a tray of prepackaged Deviled eggs from the Deli, still apologizing for the spill (which he couldn't control) and another apology from the Deli that they were so sorry they'd run out of boxes to hold the trays in my order! If not for the fact, I had to get on with my day to host my event; I would have addressed this situation immediately! I thanked the young man for his help & continued on home. I'd packed the trays in my vehicle as delicately as I possibly could for transport; but without the boxes for support, it took great effort to keep them intact during the drive and again to unload them to my table. These issues could have been avoided with better planning on Jewel's end. Having the appropriate handling materials is just as important as preparing quality dishes. In the end, if all the food is spilled in the parking lot who can enjoy it?! For the most part my guest were pleased with the quality & taste of the selections. For that Jewel gets points. I will probably use Jewel Bakery & Deli prepared trays and assorted selections for future occasions; should they appropriately address this issue. read more

Apparently, you do discriminate against those who have had a complete background check by putting a no gun sign on your establishment? Do you own the store or is it leased. * If leased, do you have permission from the landlord to post such a sign? I would point out that you may have some people with less than perfect backgrounds and mental states entering your establishment every day; and that doesn't seem to bother you. But having a citizen with a clean background check that is allowed to carry a firearm seems to bother you. I never saw the sign until recently, but now that I have I feel that if you don't want my business, I don't want to shop at your establishment. I will encourage all my contacts to find more friendly establishments to shop at as well. There are plenty of other stores in the area that don't discriminate against gun owners. I used to spend anywhere from $200.00 to $800.00 a month at your establishment. If you were a bar, I would understand the no gun sign. I really enjoy shopping at this Jewel. I have finally given up on Wal-Mart and converted to Jewel for grocery shopping. The store is always clean and usually it isn't packed. I usually find what I am looking for without any problems. Everyone is friendly and willing to help. Their produce and meat departments beat Wal-Mart's any day of the week. My only complaint would be I wish they offered more than one aisle of "organic/health freaks/gluten free" products. read more

Ordered a cupcake cake for a party on a Monday. Scheduled the pick up for Saturday morning. Friday morning they call stating the colors (silver) I ordered were not available. Not only did they not have the colors as listed on the website, they didn't even look at my order for over 3 days! They waited until 24 for hours before pickup to even check the order. Then they chose to have not a manager contact me but someone else, yet the bakery manager AND the store manager on duty knew about it! They offered nothing as a resolution except to make the cake for free using colors I did not want. What good is a free anything if it isn't what I ordered??? Too bad they didn't take 1 minute to check for silver icing because Wilton makes a silver spray for icing that is fabulous and what I ended up buying to get the silver for my cake. Had they even attempted to fix the situation I would still be shopping at that store, because they couldn't be bothered to fix their error (ignoring my order for over 3 days) I will not shop at that store again. read more
