Jewel Apartments is the best complex I have ever lived in. Yes, I am 25, with two pups, trying to do the live music thing here in a city known as the "Live Music Capitol of the USA"... (one of them), so the 'struggle is real' financially! I lived in Montrose, Houston, TX for over a year in a very inexpensive studio before moving here in June 2019. Jewel is just small enough to feel like solid community of neighbors. I've felt nothing but respected by the other tenants! I also have made some great friends here at Jewel as well! Bryant Falcon, Assistant Property Manager, is an incredible human being that is kind, genuine, adaptable, and one of the most hard working individuals that I get the pleasure of seeing everyday *except when he is working one of his other two jobs or actually enjoying a day off*. He deserves a raise, promotion, and gold star, Roscoe Property Management! Davis, Lead Maintenance, is also an amazing human being! They are both working very hard to make sure their tenants are happy. The day before Thanksgiving, I had no hot water. I told Bryant, who promptly made the call to get the water heater replaced in my building. Davis replaced it that day. I was shocked by how quickly my needs were heard and promptly taken care of. With the price of housing rapidly increasing in Austin, I am more than happy to say I live at Jewel Apartments. They upgraded the payment method on all their broken washers and dryers... but didn't fix the actual washers and dryers... they redid sidewalks outside which affected NOBODY.... and didn't fix washers and dryers which affects EVERYBODY... I co-signed a lease with my sister in May of 2019. I initially requested to be listed as a guarantor as I am not a resident of Austin. They listed me as a co-signer without explaining the details. The lease was for 12 months. We had to end the lease early because my sister was experiencing some mental health issues and had to move back to Houston as she could not manage being on her own and I was not able to financially support her. After we ended the lease, it was my understanding that we had paid the balance in full. Lo and behold, I received a notice in the mail stating a balance was owed for $713 or so. The letter stated I had 10 business days to contact them and take care of the balance. The post date was several days after the date of the letter and I received the letter less than 5 business days before the 10 business days were up. This letter did not have a breakdown of the items associated to this balance owed. I immediately reached out to the apartment complex via phone voicemail and email letting them know that there was a delay with the post office and I had received the letter late and to please notate our account so we could take care of the balance with them. I also asked for an itemized statement for the balance owed so I could verify the total amount with the lease. I did not receive it. A few days after the 10 business days were up based on the date of their letter, I reached out once again to ensure they had received my email and copied a support email address to make sure it was reviewed. I received a reply within an hour stating that my balance had already been transferred to National Credit Systems and that I should take it up with them. The email was not signed by a name or I would mention them here. I replied asking for a breakdown of the statement and asked who I was corresponding with. I have not received a reply and this was over a month ago. I have been in contact with National Credit Systems and they have provided me with the itemized bill as I requested. It does not clarify validity of these charges according to the lease. I have since sent in an account validation request via certified mail to NCS. At this point, I am beyond disappointed. Yes, the amenities are nice and the complex is nice and the fellow tenants are great. However, if this is how a previous tenant is treated after moving out because of mental health issues, look elsewhere. They have no care for you. All they care about is getting rent from you. read more

So far this apartment complex has been great. I like how friendly the neighbors are, how private the place can be as well. For an older complex it still feels luxury. I would highly recommend renting at jewel. And recommend Riley in the office as a good contact even if he were to ever change apartment locations. Very friendly service. So before I begin there are a few considerations. Upon beginning our lease, we experienced several quality control shortcomings in our apartment related to the building showing its age. However, it has been lightly remodeled, with standard fare appliances that are perfectly acceptable for the location and the price. The property itself has many positive amenities, including a dog park with dog shower, an additional space with picnic tables, a great view, permanent ping-pong tables and bags, and the pool has newly installed stainless steel charcoal grills with a mini fridge. Also worth mentioning: the pool is cleaned regularly even during the winter. One thing that can be said without any controversy is that there has been a very positive change in management, both in approachability and service call resolution. This change was brought upon by Drew, the new office manager, who has regularly scheduled fun social events and showed a genuine interest the happiness of the residents. 1. I have had issues with bugs since I moved into this place, its not just my unit from talking with neighbors, everyone has the same issue with roaches and other bugs. We pay for pest control here yet they never show up to actually spray your unit, they will just tell you "you're on the list..." 2. I had the worst experience today when I (current resident) had my car towed from the community parking lot simply because my tag was on the dashboard and not the windshield, when confronting the office about this experience they were in no way willing to compensate for the $200 that it cost to get my car back and nor were they being professional about the situation. I was unable to go to work for 5 hours which is also losing me money, not to mention the uber rides I had to pay for to get to the lot where it was held. 3. There has been multiple car break ins, I would say there has been six or seven since I've been here. Multiple vehicles who have had their rims stolen and left cars sitting on blocks. You can find a way better apartment then this run down "newly renovated" complex that is bug infested and has poor customer service. You have actual renovated units for the same price down the street so I encourage you to look elsewhere before leasing a unit from The Jewel property. Its a roscoe property so what would you expect, right? I guess that's my bad read more

There's good and bad here. The good: - Maintenance is quick and professional! I've never had to wait more than a business day or two to get something fixed. - The interior upgrades are nice! While the buildings themselves are kind of old, the kitchens, bathrooms and window treatments look really good. - Google fiber! - It really does feel like a good value for the size of the apartments and the location. The bad: - This complex may as well have no laundry facilities. The washers and dryers are TERRIBLE. There's about a 25% chance that the dryer will actually dry your clothes on the first (or even second) try. Sometimes the washing machines don't do the spin cycle and your clothes are literally dripping wet, which makes it even less likely that the dryers will do their jobs. I have never lived in a complex with laundry facilities this bad in my ten years of renting. - This isn't really the complex's fault, but some of the dog owners who live here don't pick up their dog's poop. To Jewel's credit, they've sent out a bunch of notices and there are multiple dog waste stations around the complex so there's not too much more they can do. Just something to be aware of. We would probably renew our lease if the apartments had W/D hookups or at least one working laundry room, but we're probably going to move to another complex when our lease is up. read more

The washer and dryers are consistently broken. The other night I put my clothes in the dryer and paid to start said dryer assuming that it would work as it should. I came back an hour later to still soaked clothes. Sadly this isn't the first time I've encountered a similar experience regarding their laundry room. For obvious reasons this is a huge inconvenience when these things happen and I have now learned my lesson. I will have to resort to other laundromats even though this amenity is one of the reasons i chose this apt complex above others. I will NOT be renewing my lease. Honestly disappointed to have gotten to this point where it's so bad I feel the need to write a review. But I really wish I wouldnt have signed a lease here and maybe I can convince someone else not to. My apartment is invested with rats, which I've spent the past two months trying to get pest control to fix to no avail. They won't do anything but place a snap trap down, if they even show up. The problem is getting worse, I see at least one rat scurry across my floor everyday. I get woken up at night by sounds of them chewing. Everything I own has had to been put in hard plastic bins to keep them from getting chewed up and covered in rat waste. There's poop everywhere, it reeks! Numerous rat holes in the dry wall. Can't use the kitchen because any food I bring in will just be chewed up. despite trying to resolve the issue for months now barley any action is being taken. Cant stress enough how awful it is living here. If you had the chance to live literally anywhere else I would take it. read more

I have lived here for over two years now, and can't imagine moving! Just signed a third year in a larger apartment and moved just across the sidewalk (ha! VERY worth it.) Seriously - and I have rented in Austin for almost a decade. This place is the best - right location, right price, and most professional people. I have had nothing but clear, cheerful and timely communication, easy online payments, the FASTEST repairs (!!!!), and overall a really clean and well-kept community. I am astounded at how horrible management is at the jewel. Unresponsive to requests and when they do respond they turn around the issue and point the finger at you. I've lived here for 9 months and have had multiple instances of cockroach infestations in my apartment/building and they have never be resolved. We pay monthly pests fees yet there is never anyone spraying pesticides or checking to see if there are big problems with the apartment as a whole. I had to bring it to managements attention that maybe the bug company should do a routine check on all the apartments for cockroaches, and what do you know when they had someone come out and check there was a cockroach infestation at the Jewel. The only answer from management is we found the source and you should be seeing a difference within the week. What about the several months before that when we had to live with cockroaches daily before any action from the Jewel was taken. Absolutely absurd do not live here whatever you do. read more

I lived at the jewel for two years and I absolutely Loved it. It was my first apartment in a new city with a new roommate and it really couldn't have been more perfect. I really cant talk enough about the location/ price- its legit and one of the most affordable it the area! If you want to be safe DON'T MOVE here!! (I wish there was the non-star option). We just had to break the lease and move to another apartments after 6 months living over here. We had the worst experience in those apartments. - Our bike got stolen. It was locked to the fence 3 feet away of our house door in the second floor. - Crazy and creepy neighbors. There was one stalking me and waiting for me before and after I come back from work. I saw him naked and he would get out if his apartment everytime he heard me. - Old utilities and the maintenance would never fix it correctly. - Cockraches all the time. Every week we would go to the office and complain. They would come spray and next week we will still have cockraches. We had the 6 months we were there. - The common areas were discussing, there was trash everywhere. We still complained and they said they were trying to keep them clean. Well, that never happened. Once I slipped because of the trash and fell down on the stairs... They PAY people for the good reviews. It is not a safe place to live! We tried to manage the situation and went to the office a lot of times explaining that we wanted to leave since I had neighbor that was stalking me. Under the Texas law in the lease if you have someone stalking you, you can break the lease and leave without penalty. Even though we were three months telling them the issue, they would still make us pay to leave. THEY JUST CARE ABOUT THE MONEY and not the safety of the residents. For your own safety, don't make the same mistake as we did... Check out other apartments that are way better. Now we are extremely happy in our new one for the same price :D read more

We lived here from the Summer of 2016-2017 under different management than the reviews I was reading. This was our first apartment moving into Austin, and we were not able to tour the property in person before moving. We were only shown the best... angles of every picture. When we got here that day, we were disappointed in the "Remodel" of a old complex and felt a little let down. But, the area that the apartments were in put us directly where we wanted to be for our 1st year here. Close to bars, restaurants, close to downtown, and the river. The location is awesome! But, some of the neighbors that were clearly doing drug deals, the incredibly small kitchen and bathroom (bad plumbing), horrible laundry rooms, left little to be desired. We would try to enjoy the pool, but would have all the neighborhoods (other apt communities) kids coming into the pool to swim, throwing rocks and being rowdy. I know that mgmt could not control kids, but it was frustrating. We lived there through remodeling their apartments and would have construction crews spraying strong chemicals whenever, without warning. When we moved out, Roscoe properties-The Jewel told us to give them a forwarding address to send the last water bill, and no bill came. But, 1 week later, a collections notice and bill collectors calling us to collect. Like.. Seriously?? We were glad to get out of there! read more

I've been calling Jewel my home for a few months now and can honestly say I love everything about it! I moved from California so this will be my first time living solo and my first time living out of state which is always a little nerve wracking. Right away I was welcomed to the building by friendly neighbors and an amazing property management team. I truly have never felt more at home than I do at Jewel AND my dogs have never had more friends. The apartment as a whole has a great vibe, is well kept, busy (but not annoyingly so), and extremely friendly. I am always thankful for Drew, maintenance, and all of the great people who live at Jewel. With any apartment building, there are sometimes things that need to be fixed on the property but the vast majority of these issues are taken care of immediately. My friend and I just moved in here and we love it! Its so close to downtown and actually affordable. There is a cute outdoor area where you can hangout and play games and the pool has a nice bbq area. Usually Drew is the only one in the office, and she is so nice and helpful. The apartments themselves are old in construction but the property management has done a pretty good job keeping them nice and attractive. The original unit we moved into was not level which was irritating as none of our doors would stay shut without having something on the other side to keep them from swaying open. Definitely not something I've ever checked for in an apt before but test the doors on your unit before signing. We then had to move units due to repairs needed in the bathroom which was a huge hassle but Drew in the office helped us sort everything out and Jewel paid for movers so that was nice as they try to be as accommodating as possible. Our new unit is level and we enjoy living here. It's easy to get just about anywhere from this location. Again - Drew in the office is a serious gem and I don't know what we would have done if she wasn't around as she genuinely cares and works with you to get everything sorted.
