Lauded as the first Okonomiyaki joint in London, I'm happy to report that it's not terrible. If you've never had Okonomiyaki before, it's a type of savory Japanese pancake made with a base of chopped vegetables like cabbage, spring onions, ginger, with egg (or egg-alternative), and your choice of meat.
The menu is fairly straightforward with a few extra authentic Japanese dishes like Yakisoba and Katsu, as well as Japanese-centered alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks like Shochu, Sake, and Roasted Barley Tea. Dessert are also available. Flavor wise, my Vegetable Okonomiyaki was pretty darn tasty and piping hot, if a bit salty.
The service is fairly lukewarm, and during the busy periods, you may not get more than a few words out of the staff, except when necessary. It may also be due to the lack of English being spoken, but if you're like me, you love the ability to have as authentic an experience as you can, so if you're learning Japanese, here's your chance to practice.
The space itself isn't the most esthetically pleasing, but given the touristy area it's in, let's consider ourselves lucky that it's clean. Brownie points for the open kitchen where you get to watch the cooks making each dish fresh and made-to-order. read more
