About 10 of us ladies plus the instructor (who was a former student) in a mirrored studio. Ages ran the gamut, from just graduated high school through an ex-professional 68-year-old dancer. It was casual, and focused on the basics. You don't have to wear a leotard! But you can if you want. The instructor was warm, friendly, and guided us through the techniques very positively. The classes are relatively small (about 8-10) and usually have 1-2 assistants in addition to Miss Lindsay. During my daughter's time in class, certain remarks were made that affected her mental and emotional comfort. When I approached the owner hoping for a constructive conversation, I was met with avoidance rather than understanding. Instead of addressing the concerns or even opening a dialogue, she chose to block me entirely. What was most upsetting was the sense that financial matters were given more importance than my daughter's mental health or our concerns as a family. Charging my card as quickly as she could to get additional money. Despite my continued efforts to support this establishment, I was met with what I experienced as unprofessionalism and a clear lack of care. This is simply my personal experience, but I hope it encourages more mindfulness and communication moving forward. I would urge other parents to be aware and advocate for their children's comfort and safety in any program they join.

My daughter's technique has improved so much in these past months and the classes are the perfect size-so she gets attention and the feedback she needs to become a better dancer. The owner is easy to talk to, bends over backwards for her students, and has created a positive studio culture. The kids encourage and clap/cheer for one another on a regular basis, and the vibe overall is very positive. Additionally, the owner and other instructors give a lot of their free time to these kids, to help them fundraise to compete at various dance competitions. The studio space is beautiful, with a viewing area where parents can watch their kids. We are very happy we made the switch to this studio.

The technique is very subpar, and you can tell teachers never get updated classes themselves 5. Joy kids get priority over recreational students 6. The owner wants to save money, so she hires students to teach (and not even the good students) 7. Dances get done 1 week before the show making them look horrible on stage 8. There is a restroom that hasn't worked all year 9. The owner wants to hide it but there is a big bullying problem going on with the teenagers 10. If you are not on the "board" or a rich parent that donates a lot of money to the studio, your child won't ever be priority, and they don't care if your child learns or not Current parents keep drinking the cool aid because they are friends but this is the reality I see. That's why half the most serious kids quit at the end of the season last year. Dawn's Dance studio has been the best option for an introverted teen who just wants to dance. We were not part of Joy first year, but only being in the studio for 1 year, my daughter was accepted to one of the most prestigious summer dance programs in the country (and internationally). Yet, the ballet studio in Yuma put her to the back all the time, belittled her skills, and told her she'll never be a dancer. On the contrary, the supportive encouragement of the Dawn's studio owners, the teachers, and the kids, have been refreshing in the dance setting. The kids that do TA for classes, are indeed very VERY good and deserve to practice their craft and give back to the community through teaching. Basically at Dawn's dance studio, if you're not that great at dance, you're not taking it that seriously because in the studio, opportunities are given to you to be the best dancer you can be to get to the next level. We've been to many dance places from PNB in Seattle to top dance schools in San Diego in the past 13 years of my kid's dance training. Being in Yuma, you can't get better dance studio than Dawn's. If you don't like it, then you better move to another city with more options because Yuma is...Yuma.

Not only do they have special dance performances they also have homemade arts and crafts, ceramics, clothing and such...and of course, food. We had both beef and hamburger soup combos with fry bread, both delicious. We stayed from noon until the closing ceremonies since the weather was overcast and cool vice sunny and hot. I definitely recommend going to one of the three days it's held.
