We were clients of Jet Tax for many years until we realized how terrible and dismissive he was with our tax situation, and on top of wanting to double charge us what he was previously charging! When working with tax consultants, you would hope they'd have your best interest and finding you the best returns as possible, however this was not the case. Despite explaining that this year would be different and we should file it differently from the previous years, Nope! There was no listening, and would always steer us to the easy way out, always taking the standard deductions, even when it was not to our best interest. Which we later found out from another, much better tax consultant! Sadly, I cannot recommend Jet Tax, if you would've asked me years ago, I would have recommended them (and actually did to my friends and family! Never again!). Save yourself time and trouble. Fees are somewhat high for filing tax returns. We went here due to the excellent yelp reviews. Frank did a decent job. Thorough but he charges too much to prepare tax returns. I didn't return as a client because of his high fees and also he doesn't prepare tax returns while you wait in the office. We filed taxes with another accountant this year and their price was significantly cheaper (half the cost of JET). Its ok to file with him but compare his fees with another accountant to see that he charges too much for the same type of tax returns (when compared apples to apples). The first time I talked to my accountant Frank is because I got a penalty from years ago for an income check which I didn't file, at that time I filed my tax online, I even had my SSN number wrong on the form. Frank acted very quickly, he made phone calls and then quickly found out the problem, and helped me solve this problem. I know a lot of people is always asking their accountants how to avoid tax, but Frank alway remind me of doing the right thing, filing the right tax, he said don't just try to cheat the systems, once you are audited, it will be too much time and money wasting, plus bad record at IRA, it is just not worthy. Quick communication via email when interested and made an appointment, went to office, small rented space, no effort to decorate or improve environment. Taxes were filed in under a week and fee paid on the same day of meeting and reviewing my tax file. Now the "fun" begins. I have filed my own taxes since I was 16 with my parents and after 18 through turbo tax and H&R block. I usually used the Freedom editions to file for free or use a waiver when I was a college student. Overall technology has served me well especially when I worked as freelancer or as self-employed as a writing tutor throughout grad. school. Last year, I filed for divorce, had a 1 year old son, hired= a full-time nanny and juggling 1 full time and 1 part time jobs, received a significant promotion in both occupations, so I considered hiring a professional tax accountant to file for taxes due to low mental energy, little time, and lack of knowledge for deductions and exemptions due to my specific life situation. Now returning to the "fun". IRS and state tax office sent me threatening letters in June saying that I owe roughly $5000 dollars in taxes with an additional $250 for penalty and late fees. I paid my "balance" according to the US tax bracket in full but refused to pay any additional fees. When I filed in April, I was told by Frank of two options when he filed on my behalf, I could either pay now or pay when IRS contacted me, no issues. IRS said your accountant was wrong and you should have paid in April when the taxes were due. Then I called Jet taxes twice and emailed once for help, suggestions, and eventually an explanation. From June to October I received a total of 6 threatening letters, made 10 phones calls to the IRS and then the NYS tax agency for to waive the fees and penalties as this was my FIRST time in the last 16 years of paying taxes that I incurred any kind of a fee and penalty, and brought down the penalty/fees to $34.42 and the NYS tax penalty and late fee was cancelled outright. No thanks to Jet taxes, Frank, his receptionist and whoever else works there. Listen I've lived in downtown Flushing for almost 25 years, needed a tax accountant fast, and I believed the yelp reviews for Jet taxes but yes I took a risk that did not pan out. My advice, please don't use this service unless you have time to shop around, research about the specific services they offer before and after you file your taxes or other monetary needs. If any business takes money from you immediately and makes zero effort to learn about you as a person with a holistic financial history and important changes in that history, don't use them. As New Yorkers, we have a surplus of services and products yet they are not of good quality or actual benefit to us, and the old school way of word of mouth recommendations might still be the better option. But off to Turbo Tax I return. Last note: I am south Asian in every physical capacity except when I open my mouth, the white lady from the South across the lane who doesn't see my face will ask if I'm from the "North", and while I've been followed around morning glory so many times that I boycotted the store because I'm not white or East Asian, racism is thriving and expanding even way up here in the "North" or whatever that means to people. The lack of service or interest I received was also definitively driven by racism and by a racist who still wanted a buck, not earn a buck or deserve a buck, but a racist who wanted a buck.
