John is amazing. I found him on a list for EA agents. Prior to this I was having my taxes completed in NYC. John has found ways to save me much more on my taxes. He is very detail oriented and when you are there you don't feel like you are being rushed (the NYC firm was crammed and I didn't feel like they were actually listening to me). If you want a Tax adviser that actually cares about you and your finances than I suggest you go with John. Within changing my careers he has also provided me with insight on my taxes (it is not as straight forward as before). I used John for nearly 10 years. Not because I liked him all that much, but he was convenient and I thought he was competent, though nothing more. However, every year I said to myself that this will be the last time I use him. His communication skills get a 0. He doesn't answer the phone or respond to messages. You may as well use the USPS to write to him because email doesn't work very well. This year I was in a pinch to get my taxes done quickly. I told him that before I sent my return. After 2 weeks, nothing. He didn't acknowledge receipt of my return (which was sent email) until I contacted him. He finally got back to me after 2 weeks (after leaving messages everywhere) to tell me it would be another week or two. My return is about as simple as they come. Making a long time customer wait for up to a month for a simple return is not good business. I finally fired him. John is a nice guy and I wish him the best. Somehow, every year, I think I'll tackle my taxes on my own, but we often find ourselves with a complex situation (multiple states of residency/employment, home sale, etc.), and I end up deciding that it's better for me to pay someone else to do it than labor for hours on my own and risk getting it wrong. That said, I'm always a little hesitant to outsource this task since it can be pricey, and a lot of tax services I've used in the past take FOREVER to respond and/or don't instill trust in their responses (lack of detail, generic answers, lack of understanding of non-standard situations, etc.). With this background/experience, I can definitely say that John is hands down the most detail-oriented, thorough and straightforward tax expert I've worked with (and I've probably worked with 3-5 others in the past). He responds quickly and is a great written communicator (I always understand from his emails exactly how to handle something or the directions to follow.) His fees are very reasonable given his expertise and service, and I highly recommend him, especially for people who live in Jersey City (woo hoo!) and work in NYC, as that can raise complexities. read more

Cannot recommend highly enough. Great great service. I have been working with John this past tax season. I filed my taxes wrong, had to do it with two states, was a part-time student and also international passport holder--so very, very complicated stuff. For a flat charge, John took care of everything. He also handled and continues to handle any follow up requires. He is prompt, explains things easily and is very good to work with. I used to use to TurboTax but I actually find working with John better. I get answers to my questions more immediately, I get to work with someone who really looks for all the tax breaks I can get, as opposed to an automated system and can talk to him at any time. It took me a while, but I finally went to a grown up accountant. John is fantastic. I had a mess on my hands, having managed to work salary, on tips and freelance during the course of one year in two states. Nor did I pay my quarterlies. He didn't blink. Instead, he calmly went through every detail and receipt with me until it was done. Didn't inflate anything or cut corners, but found stuff no one else had. When he showed me what our return would be, he went through and explained it all, including future options. He's also a nice guy. All in all, I spent an hour and a half with him. Granted, it was midday so he may have had more time than he would an evening appointment, but I was impressed since it's all a flat fee. I am stunned by how good he is. Do not be fooled by the dinginess of the building or the paper printouts hanging on the office walls. Worth every penny and would not hesitate to recommend him. read more

Absolutely the most unprofessional individual. I had scheduled an appointment with Jonh weeks in advance. We arrived to our appointment on time, in fact 10 minutes early. We were left waiting for almost an hour past our scheduled time. I understand that the previous appointments run over. We informed him that we live around the corner and will return when he is near wrapping up with his client. We went home and received a call from his office asking us to come in saying that he is just about wrapping up. When we got there, he was no where near to finishing up. In fact, he was seeing a client that came in after the one that we were waiting after. Common courtesy would have been asking us to reschedule or just have integrity and keep to the schedule that was agreed upon. I would give 0 stars if I could. This business is run like a mill with no integrity towards its clients. There are plenty of well qualified accountants out there to take my business to. read more
