It's not easy to find a good dry cleaner these days. Jet Cleaners on State Street in New Haven is a very good one. Everything I have taken there has been returned in excellent condition. First Timer Alert!!! I needed last minute alterations on my dress for an event tonight. I thought caring and empathetic customer service left the building long ago. To my absolute surprise, I met the most caring, friendly and genuinely nice man. I dropped my dress off at 8 am and picked it up at just before 1pm. Yeah, I know UNHEARD OF... but let me tell you, it was altered perfectly and fit like a glove. I now have a new cleaners. I live 40 minutes away but I work in New Haven. Well worth the drive. Historically, the ONLY Dry Cleaner in New Haven from State Street days near the I-91 entrance, but no more. They had 2 weeks to launder some shirts before Xmas - 1 needed for a holiday party - the shirts weren't ready when promised after 2 weeks - just laundered shirts no special requests. Then, there are the hours - if it's your day off and it's a Federal holiday they are closed. Much respect for history but I'll need to do business out of the neighborhood next time. read more

I do not recommend using Jet Cleaners. I sent my wedding dress here for dry cleaning in mid-September 2023 and was told it would be completed by December. They did not finish until mid-March 2024, and that was after multiple calls asking when they would be done. When I received the dress, there were several stains they were not able to get out, mostly dirt on the bottom of the dress. It was not overly soiled when I brought to them, so I was shocked they were not able to remove the dirt. I have to wonder if the dress didn't sit around for 6 months, the stains may have been easier to get out. The dress was also returned wrinkled. Given this is my wedding gown that I was hoping to preserve for future use, I am very upset at the poor results that I feel could have been avoided. I will not be returning. read more

I got duped into trying this place due to the Groupon deal. I needed my winter, wool coat and my ties cleaned and thought it was a slam dunk with the Groupon. That's when the nightmare began. First of all, I didn't read the Groupon properly, because it states it was for their pick-up service only. I took everything to them, and they refused to give me a discount. The lady was unbelievably rude too. I actually had to schedule a pick-up, take my clothes back to my house, and then wait for the driver to come get them. A week later, I get the clothes delivered. Two ties are missing and (I'm not exaggerating) every button on my wool coat was gone. I called immediately, and the same rude lady told me to bring the coat back down to the store and talk to the owner. Mike is a nice guy, but he couldn't find all the buttons. He said he'd get it fixed and to come back in a few days. I went back and was greeted by the rude lady again who said Mike wasn't available and neither was my coat, but they did have the ties. I actually forgot about the coat for a few weeks, and stopped in after work. They had it fixed, but the buttons didn't match. I just didn't feel like arguing with the nasty, rude lady again, so I just took the damn thing and left. Go to Executive Cleaners. They're the least expensive and do a great job. Completely unexpected kindness... I had to get my Marine Corps dress blue uniform cleaned for an event, and I needed it done in less than two days. I started at another NH area cleaner (Executive) that received good Yelp ratings and was mentioned in the Register. However, I almost jumped across the counter when the attendant pulled at my medals-mount with her fingers (it is VERY difficult to mount them correctly). She then asked if it was a military uniform. What the heck else would it be? Anyway, I asked if she could clean it without damaging it, and if she could do in two days or less. She answered 1) I think so, and 2) there is no rush option so standard three days. So I left. I may sound really uptight and high maintenance right now, but no Marine on this earth would entrust his dress blues to a dry cleaning establishment that could not give a confident "yes" to whether they could clean it without damaging it. So, I went instead to Jet Cleaners on State St. in New Haven, where the guy said he would do this personally by hand without any machines in order to ensure that the garment was not damaged. He then informed me that there would be no charge, because he wanted to show his appreciation for my service. Well, please allow me to show appreciation for the service I received today from Jet Cleaners. They are the only dry cleaners I will be using for as long as I am in the New Haven area. UPDATE: The only reason that jet Cleaners posted this reponse was so people wou;d buy their Groupon this Friday (1/7/11). they just posted this to make it seem like they care. I wrote that review MONTHS ago. They don't actually clean your clothes, they just send things through their dry cleaning system and don't go after the stains. Alas, I did not find a better place in New Haven while I was there. Here is the thing about their posting... I am glad that they would redo my clothes (as almsot all dry cleaners will if its not done correctly), but I want a place that will do the job right the FIRST TIME! I don't like to waste my time, hence why I'd pay good money (and they're not cheap) to get my clothes cleaned right the first time. Who wants to go to the cleaners more than once? read more

I've tried several dry cleaners in the area over the last few years and haven't been totally happy with the service, especially for trickier items. I took a chance on Jet for a linen jacket that we accidentally dried with candy in one of the pockets that melted and spread through to the back creating a big hardened stain. The prognosis was 'cautiously optimistic' and I was scheduled to pick it up at the end of next week, but I got a personal text later that day letting me know it was all set and good as new!! I wasn't hopeful they could get the stain out at all, let alone same day! After 3 years of using Ted's cleaners, and never feeling satisfied, I have discovered a love for Jet. Why? 1. They are convenient -- having a parking lot makes dropping off dry cleaning infinitely easier, as opposed to navigating New Haven street metered parking. 2. They are friendly -- the staff seems younger, and just generally happier about life. Courteous greetings, good-spirited idle-chatter -- these are things I thought would be impossible to find in a New Haven service establishment. Jet proved me wrong. 3. They clean your clothes -- on multiple occasions in the past I have picked up clothes from Ted's cleaners only to find the same stains present, the ones that I pointed out specifically for removal. Thus far, the quality of the dry cleaning at Jet seems to be better, which seems weird, but I'm willing to admit that I may be biased by #'s 1 and 2 above. The only knock on Jet Cleaners is that they have an annoying habit of stapling the ticket numbers for your order into the clothing labels themselves (instead of wrapping the paper tabs around the label and putting the staple only into the paper). Nonetheless, based on my experiences, I consider Jet to be the best dry cleaners in New Haven. read more

Wear white with confidence. For the 2010-2011 winter season, I bought a crisp WHITE winter ski coat with black trim for my daily walks to and from work. Come January, the coat was pretty grimy, especially the sleeves near the wrists. What had I been thinking, buying WHITE for daily wear? Thankfully, Jet Cleaners did an awesome job spot treating the stains, which included some coffee and food stains, and laundering my coat. They know their fabrics and I trust them with my favorite clothes. Previously to the coat, I had also dropped off spring jackets, a comforter, and my husband's suites with great results. The jackets were clean and sharply pressed. I am a bit of a clean freak and also have an inconveniently sensitive nose that reacts to the fumes given off by lesser dry cleaning chemicals. However, I was impressed that my garments and comforters cleaned by Jet Cleaners smelled pleasantly fresh. Fresh as in clean without any chemical smells. In summary, I don't understand the negative reviews posted here on Yelp. I've been living in New Haven for a year now and think Jet Cleaners does a great job. I had mixed experiences with Jet. First, I was so happy to find a cleaner nearby that would pick up and deliver. The man I talked to on the phone about pick up / delivery was very friendly, and I liked the idea of giving him business. I felt excited about the prospect of becoming a loyal Jet customer, because I have recently moved to New Haven, I work long hours which makes pick up and delivery helpful, and I know I'll always need suits cleaned. The pick-up/delivery takes about a week: I leave the clothes in my building on Wednesday and receive it delivered clean the next Wednesday. On one Wednesday evening, my suit jacket needed cleaning. I didn't want to wait two weeks to get the suit picked up the next Wednesday and dropped off the Wednesday after that. So I brought my clothes in to the store. I figured I was saving Jet the trouble of picking up and delivering, too. Because I work long hours and have had to be out of town multiple weekends in a row, I had to go to some effort to arrange my schedule so that I could go to Jet and drop my clothes off during its open hours. The nice woman I spoke with at Jet said that I could pick the clothes up on a certain date, anytime before 7pm. When the time came to pick up my clothes, I managed to get out of work early enough to go. Jet is about a ten minute walk for me. I left work at 6:40, so I knew I would get to Jet at 6:50pm. I decided to be polite I should call Jet and give a heads up that I would arrive ten minutes before close, because I know sometimes people get stressed out about having customers right before close. A woman picked up to whom I had not spoken before. Usually I get along well with most people. I try hard to please. But this woman immediately became--or at least seemed--angry. She said something like, 'Why are you calling!?' (All the quotes here are paraphrased.) I explained. She said, 'If you arrive after 7pm, I'm not going to help you.' I said, 'I will arrive before 7pm, but just ten minutes before, so I was calling to give you a heads up.' She said, 'I am about to shut down the computer now, so even if you come in ten minutes before 7, I can't process your payment.' This seemed unreasonable to me. I had been told that I could pick up the clothes anytime before 7, and I felt that should mean I could also have my payment processed anytime before 7. Furthermore, considering I had warned her that I would come in just ten minutes before 7, why couldn't she keep her computer running until the business's official close time, at least on this one day? But I didn't say any of that. Instead, I said cheerfully, 'That's fine! I already paid when I dropped my clothes off! I just wanted to let you know I'm coming, in case you want to go look for my clothes now, so you won't have to scramble ten minutes before close.' She asked me my name and I told her. After a pause to look in her system, she responded accusatorially, 'We don't have any customers by that name!' I felt startled. If it were true that Jet had lost my name from its system after I paid and left my clothes, shouldn't this woman be apologetic? Why on earth was she angry? 'Well,' I said, 'I have a ticket that your coworker gave me--I'll read it to you.' I read the number. Another pause. 'We don't have that number in our system!' she barked. Again, I am thinking, if you really lost my information, you should be apologizing, not yelling. 'Never mind,' I said, deciding that my courtesy call wasn't worth the trouble, 'Let's discuss when I arrive in person. I'm two minutes away now.' As I walked the next couple blocks, I thought, maybe I got the wrong number on Google and I called the wrong business--some other dry cleaner in another city. Maybe I called Jet Cleaners in New Haven, Colorado, and that Jet closes earlier, and it doesn't have my name or ticket in its system because I've never been to Colorado. Maybe that's why the person on the phone was so angry. So when I arrived at Jet, I decided just to be my usual friendly self and start fresh, in case it really was a different business than the one I had called. 'Hi,' I said, smiling and extending my dry cleaner ticket to the woman at the counter, 'I am here to pick up these items.' The woman took my ticket and then scolded, 'Why didn't you tell me you were a delivery customer?!' 'What? You never asked,' I replied, confused, 'In the past I have used pick up / delivery, but this time, I dropped my clothes off myself and told your coworker I would pick them up myself.' 'You should have told me you were a delivery customer,' she complained, 'We keep delivery customers in a separate system!' 'I didn't know that,' I responded, meekly, 'because I don't work here.' In the end, I got my clothes, and they were perfectly clean. Jet does a good job and the prices are fair. But I felt drained from the experience of someone yelling at me. Just so you have context for this review: I have been going to Jet increasingly grudgingly for almost 2 years, totaling at least 15 visits. I am not just a one-time angry customer. I know what you're thinking. "You have that low of an opinion of them but you went there anyway for all those times?" The short answer: this is New Haven. Many options there are not, convenient options are even more scarce. And I thought, maybe I just have bad luck. But no: in a series of screwups, it is clear that I have been a moron for these two years and it's time to write a cautionary review to prevent you from being stupid, too. Jet is a business that repeatedly messed up my clothing and wasted my time while taking my money and treating me like garbage. It's not just that the lady who mans the place in the afternoon is usually rude and often openly hostile (have you ever been yelled at for walking into a place 20 minutes before it closes?). She is, but I could live with that. And, in fairness, about half the times I took only shirts to them, they cleaned them with the minimum amount of competence required (but only that; rings around collars seem beyond Jet's capabilities, and whites invariably come back a little yellower). No, the killer is the fact that this place has literally stained or discolored my clothes on multiple occasions. I'm not talking about failing to clean old stains. I mean ADDING NEW ONES. I brought a pair of pants to them with grease spots; they returned it to me with the grease spots more or less removed but huge streaks of discoloration down the leg. Returned it to them again, they gave them back to me clean but looking like I had worn them for two years longer than I had. Shirt: almost cleaned, but then stained - by the cleaners - with what looked like wine drops on the shoulder. And most recently and outrageously: white pants taken in. They almost removed the tough stain from a leather wallet, did not fully remove the easier liquid stain (a friend's friend couldn't hold a drink properly), and added NEW dirt stains on the front and back of one of the legs. It was like someone had removed the pants from cleaning agents, stepped on the leg with a muddy shoe, and then wrapped the pants up to be given to me. When I pointed out the new stains and neglected stain and asked them to clean them I was told it would be done by the next day (today). And when I returned, nothing, naturally, had been done. I took the pants in disgust and left. I'm moving to New York tomorrow, where people can actually do the job you pay them for and don't treat you with gross disregard. Just...wow. It's been two years of this nonsense. Don't even make it one miserable occasion for you. Find anyone else. Anyone at all. They cannot do worse. Better yet? Just leave New Haven. read more

They do a good job cleaning things, but I find them super unfriendly. You can NOT under any circumstances forget to bring their F'ing coupons. They are sticklers. Once I forgot and asked if I could bring them when I picked up the clothes and they said no way. I saw somebody who claimed to not have been e-mailed one months coupons and they wouldn't give her credit for the coupon. Finally today, I couldn't print out their coupon because I ran out of ink in my printer and they wouldn't let me have the discount. I hate them and their damn coupons. They are too expensive anyway. I took 5 jackets here to be cleaned. I got them back and they looked and smelled exactly the same as when I took them in. They weren't even pressed. The wrinkles were still in the sleeves. Pathetic. Bought a $20 for $40 deal for this place on Living Social, which is what got me in. I dropped off 11 dresses and a blouse and was charged $150. These are professional business clothes that I use for work every day, not gowns or formal dresses. When I went to pick them up, the woman told me that I could not use the coupon I purchased since I didn't mention it when I dropped off my clothes and she could not change the transaction. I paid the $150. While still there, I counted the clothes and found deodorant marks on every piece. It was not as if they had not been cleaned at all but the underarms had barely been skimmed over. I picked out the dress with the biggest clumps of deodorant and showed the attendant. She responded by telling me that it wasn't deodorant and that the dress had been cleaned. As she was saying this, I scraped some of the deodorant off with my nail, showed her and asked for a refund. She told me that she could not give a refund because the transaction had already been processed but that she could have my dress redone for free. I left that dress and took the rest home. The underarm areas on the clothes that I took home had visible deodorant stains and still smelled dirty so I threw them all back in the hamper. I picked up my other dress 2 weeks later... it had no deodorant stains and no smell. I will never go back to this place, not even to use the coupon that I paid for. I regularly have clothes dry-cleaned and [being that I just moved here] am shopping around for a dry cleaning establishment to call my own. My last place had reasonable prices and left my clothes clean and smelling fresh... this place just made me feel scammed. I paid $170 (includes $20 I paid for the coupon) to have them store some dresses for a week and tell me that I don't know what deodorant looks like. This doesn't include the cost of getting my clothes properly cleaned by a different Dry Cleaner. read more
