I started going here when I moved to North Haven but formerly I only went to the one on Dixwell. Whereas I prefer the one on Dixwell because I am friendly with their staff, this location is swift with their services and my clothes are ready within 2 days. They did one time fix a zipper on my pants without my authorization and asked me to pay for it which wasn't happening. The manager and I resolved that quickly so other than that, and there slightly inflated prices, they do a great job cleaning. read more

Extremely unprofessional. Nice people, and I hate leaving a bad review, but I have to: they damaged my wedding dress and I had to bring it elsewhere to get it saved so I could wear it. I brought my wedding dress to them to be pressed, and they nearly ruined it. They sent it out to a special service in Rhode Island, but when it came back to them, they hadn't checked to see if it was appropriately cleaned, and what's worse, there was damage that wasn't there before. Here are some of the things that happened: on the collar of the dress, they steamed the satin too much so it shrunk; they poked visible holes in it to hang it, but poked them all the way through the satin right in the front so it was visible on my wedding day; they left a STAIN on the satin collar, and a water mark RIGHT on the front of the dress; they also took the bust cups out and didn't sew them back in. When I asked them to put the cups back in, they did, but when I returned to pick up the dress again, the dress had been left crumpled on the floor in the bag! they did refund me, but what good is a refund of $200 when damage has been done to your $5000 wedding dress?? I certainly won't be going again. read more

I've been getting my dry cleaning done here for a number of years now. It's conveniently located on Rt. 10 between Cheshire and New Haven, so if you make that trek frequently then you drive right by the place. They're open pretty good hours as in early in the morning and I think they close about 8pm. They are open Saturday but not Sunday. If you drop your clothes off early enough they can usually turn them around by later in the day, though I'm not usually in that much of a hurry to get my stuff back. The people are generally friendly and helpful. Over the years from time to time something will get "lost" in that a) It's not done when promised or b) Its done but they can't actually find your items when you show up to pick them up. It doesn't happen often and your items will inevitably turn up usually in the next day or two but it can be annoying. Like most dry cleaners they seem to use a system of managing customer's clothes that feels like it's from the 1940's; it works but isn't perfect. They are good at getting out various stains out of clothes and that's important to a slob like me. Price-wise they aren't that cheap. As of today (4/2016) I think I pay $2/shirt and about $6.50 for a pair of pants. If you drop off women's clothes expect to pay more. Prices go up periodically and honestly I drop off so much stuff each visit I don't really keep track of the cost of each individual item. I'm sure you could do better on price someplace else but overall when you factor in quality, service, hours, etc. I don't feel ripped off. Also they do all cleaning on-site. I'm always hesitant to use a place that sends my clothes out to another location to get cleaned and pressed. The odds of something getting lost or misplaced gets exponentially higher when it has to leave the building and then come back again. So overall I'm happy with Rainbow Cleaners. read more

Aside from what seem to be prices on the high end, I've had my fill of Rainbow's lackadaisical ambivalence toward their customers. Or at least *this* customer. I took two dresses in for alterations. Karen (owner? manager?) said that they would be done by Saturday - a quick turnaround as it was Friday morning. I showed up Friday morning to meet Maria, the seamstress who sighed and rolled her eyes when I said Karen said she could turn them around quickly - always a bad sign. I should have left then. For the record, all I needed was the dresses taken in slightly under the arms because girlfriend does not like to show her bra at work. I show up Saturday morning and am told the dresses aren't done. Well, the ticket I have says they would be done yesterday, so.... failing to be my problem, right? They're done, but they aren't pressed. I look at one of them, and it's such a horrid, half-arsed job that I said, "I'm not paying since I will have to take this home and remove it with a thread ripper." Luckily the Theory dress is recoverable. The other dress is fine... however neither were pressed and apparently Rainbow can't follow through and complete an order by flippin' pressing the dresses. Really? Really? You can't turn the machine on to complete an order for a customer who has spent hundreds of dollars over the last two years? Really. Wow. Maybe I'll try the blank stare and "We don't do that on X day" with my clients at my job and see if it flies. It would certainly give me more free time. So I get home, undo the one crappy job, and then try on the other. Dress fits fine, except there is a stain that wasn't there yesterday and looks suspiciously like oil from a sewing machine on the back of it. I call over and ask if they will clean the dress and get the slack-jawed mumbling reply of, "We can do it Monday but we don't do that today." What is this, Israel? Are you observing Shabbot?! COME ON. Have some interest in your customers. Long story short, I'll never take anything to Rainbow again, between this instance and the two dress shirts of my husband's that came back with stains on the front (look like rust down the buttonhole row, I'm guessing from poorly maintained machinery? Who knows? They went in the garbage because we couldn't get the stains out). As for the dress, I'll be in the city next week and have a feeling I can find a reliable cleaner there, who can give me same day turnaround and actually do the job right. read more

After having a nice conversation with a woman the other day about having my dress altered we arranged for me to come in early before work to have my dress altered... not only was the seamstress rude, she wasted my time. She kept repeating "I only have 1 machine! I can't do this dress" to me.. she said her machine could only do one kind of stitch and the way my dress was made she couldn't do it. She was not welcoming or warm or the slightest bit helpful to me. She could not even recommend another place for me to go to. It was very frustrating as a customer to hear this. Meanwhile I witnessed 2 other customers complaining to the workers that they had shirts missing from their order... nice, real nice. I will be going elsewhere from now on. I would recommend not wasting your time here. read more

Friendly service and quick service. They even knew how to do Military Creases. Not bad if you ask me. I like going to them every time I have an inspection coming up with my reserves. They broke my wife's dress and made me wait 25 minutes while they pressed the broken dress. They did not even mention that the dress was broken and you could see where they tried to glue it back together. I expressed how frustrated I was that they kept me waiting for a broken dress and they charged me anyway. They offered to try to do something with the dress but at that point we were on our way out of town to the wedding that we needed it for. A couple weeks later I needed my suit cleaned for an interview and I thought I would give them another try. The person who was at the counter when I went to pick up the suit informed me that the owner almost refused to do the suit and thought that I owed them an apology for telling them that they were unprofessional when we were there for the dress. They really need to work on their customer service. They can't be trusted with anything you want to get back in one piece and even then they will lie to you about it. read more

Rainbow cleaners had been around for 50+ years. My family and I have been coming here forever and I can never complain. Of course one time a shirt was ruined but they paid for it and everything was fine. No need to get upset over something that was an accident and they paid for me to get a new one. I still go back there and will never go anywhere else. The owner Jeanne and her family are so nice and they take care of everyone. They actually are one of the affordable dry cleaners in the area. Also billy can get out almost any stains you hand to him... The owners are really pleasant and I would never ever say anything bad about anyone. Rainbow cleaners forever. read more

Besides great cleaning services I respect them because they collect gently used business attire: suits, jackets, dress shirts, etc. for the Save-A-Suit foundation which donates the suits to military vets to get them back into the workforce with the proper clothing. Terrific! read more

Unlike the two of the other "customers" who previsously reviewed Rainbow, I absolutly love Rainbow Cleaners. I have never in my 5 years of using Rainbow Cleaners found any the staff to be anything but warm and welcoming. In fact, I have become on a first name basis with all of the counter staff and they greet me with a warm Hello! My clothes have never been anything but perfect, and I always recommed them as the best dry cleaners in town! Doesn't it always seem you hear the bad, sour reviews from the very few customers who do not understand they are NOT the only customers at Rainbow Cleaners? Reguardless of the few bad reviews about Rainbow Cleaners, they have been family owned and operated for a very long time, and will continue to be. read more

Wow do I even have to give this place one star! Three years later and me and my wife still talk about this place (and refer to it as rain blows). I went there a few times with my nice dress shirts. Each time I would pick my shirts up, same result; missing or broken buttons. I asked them to replace them, which they would, but they never seemed to have the same colored button. So all my nice work shirts either have missing buttons or different color buttons. When I complained to the manager she said "this always happens, it's just part of taking your shirts to the dry cleaners". Really??? That's funny because I've never had that problem before or since going there. read more

If I could give this place no stars, I would!! I have been coming here for years ( I'm not sure why I felt loyal to them) but I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!! I had a dress dry cleaned there and when I went to pick it up, it wasn't ready but yet she charged me for it!!! I went back a second time and it STILL wasn't ready and NEITHER was the shirt I was there to pick up!! The woman behind the counter told me it would be ready that day because he (the owner) had it on the press. Um, it should have been done by then. She asked me when I would be back to pick it up. I said on Monday (it was a Sat,) and the woman behind the counter had the audasity to ask me when on Monday I was coming. If it was supposed to be done that day, then why would it make a difference when I pick it up???? Needless to say this isn't the first or second time I had a problem with them, but it is DEFINATELY the last. I AM REFERRING TO THE ONE ON DIXWELL AVE. NOT THIS LOCATION!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
