First time customer here and my experience at Mission Hills Hyundai was extremely disappointing…read more
I brought my 2023 Hyundai Elantra in after multiple warning lights appeared and the battery began draining. The dealership kept my car for several days because they had difficulty diagnosing the issue and even had to involve Hyundai Corporate. During that time, I was without transportation until they eventually approved a loaner vehicle.
To their credit, they ultimately diagnosed the problem as a short related to the rear camera and replaced the battery under warranty.
Unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended.
When I got home after picking up my vehicle, I noticed that the area underneath my dashboard had exposed wiring hanging down. It looked unfinished, so my husband contacted the dealership and left a voicemail for my service advisor (Oscar) because I was concerned something had been left apart or damaged during the repair.
Instead of taking my concerns seriously, I was met with dismissive and unprofessional behavior.
When I called to speak with my service advisor, I was told the technician never touched the area around the OBD port while my vehicle was in their care. That statement immediately concerned me because the issue I discovered was in the same area, making it difficult for me to understand how it had gone unnoticed. Since the diagnostic connector is also located in that area, I was left confused about how the vehicle could have been diagnosed without that area being accessed.
When I arrived after work, the manager (Hovik) showed me another Hyundai and explained that the OBD port does not have a cover, which I appreciated. However, my concern was the wiring hanging down underneath the dashboard. His proposed solution was simply to secure the wire with a zip tie. I explained that I wanted the wiring routed properly the way it should have been from the factory, not held up with a zip tie. At no point did anyone explain why the wiring could not be secured using the factory routing or mounting method. Instead, the only solution presented to me was to secure it with a zip tie.
I was told the exposed wiring was connected to an aftermarket device that was either an alarm or a tracking device installed when the car was originally sold. I explained that I never purchased or activated any alarm or tracking service and asked if it could be simply removed. I was told they could not remove it because they couldn't verify whether it was active and that I would have to take the vehicle back to the dealership where I originally purchased it.
That explanation didn't make sense to me. This is a Hyundai dealership working on a Hyundai under warranty, yet I was being sent to a different Hyundai dealership for something involving my own vehicle. I was asking them to properly address the wiring that was left exposed after my service visit.
Rather than addressing my concern, I called my husband to speak to the manager since I wasn't being understood and all I could hear at the end of their conversation was the manager telling my husband , "If you want to escalate it, go right ahead." He handed me the general manager's name and number, walked away, and that's how that conversation ended.
Everyone makes mistakes. What disappointed me wasn't necessarily the repair itself, it was how my concerns were handled afterward. As a customer, I expected professionalism, respect, and accountability. I expected my concerns to be addressed, explained, and, if necessary, corrected.
As a female customer, I left feeling like my concerns were repeatedly dismissed instead of being taken seriously. Whether that was intentional or not, it was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. Every customer deserves to have their questions answered respectfully, regardless of their level of automotive knowledge.
I hope this dealership improves the way it communicates with customers because no one should feel like they're inconveniencing the staff simply for asking questions about their own vehicle.
My biggest concern was the lack of communication, professionalism, and willingness to address reasonable questions about my own vehicle that ultimately led me to write this review.
I hope the General Manager investigates my concerns and follows up with me and my husband. If the situation is resolved professionally, I will gladly update this review to reflect that.
