This is the Whole Hoagie. A roast beef and provolone.
Joey C.

When I first walked in, it reminded me of a Subway because of the layout. Thru the door and go to the far end of the room to place an order. It works. It's here that you are greeted by dude on the slicer. He just handles your meat however, and slides it down to the fixns gal. The place was busy and a line formed, adding to the pile of call-in orders. But slicer dude greeted everyone and says he will be with them in a minute. That's class. It immediately disarmed anyone that was hungry and pissed. The other employees were poised and professional and the place was clean despite the Saturday lunch rush (see pics). Honestly, the food was ok but I'm not trying to judge them on a Turkey hoagie alone. The Turkey was antibiotic free which is a big plus in my world (see pics). I give 4 stars based on great service and decent food. I would def recommend.

Pumpernick's Deli - Another amazing "Rachel"

We were driving to an early appointment and wanted to have breakfast afterwards. On the way to the…read moreappointment we passed Pumpernick's Deli. After looking at the review, we decided to try it out. It's a nice venue - it was very quiet and had a relaxed vibe. We had recently gone to Hymie's Deli (Merion Station) and the noise level there was a little deafening. Several of the reviews on Pumpernick's mentioned the Challah French Toast...many quite favorably. We decided to order that and the Veggie Omelette, sharing each. I love Challah French Toast, I make it once a week. I perfected my recipe in college working at a breakfast-lunch restaurant near campus. It all starts with the challah - we had a bakery in Youngstown that made the lightest, fluffiest and tastiest challah. The owner insisted we use only butter in the pan when grilling the French Toast. It wasn't rocket science. Somehow, Pumpernick's missed the mark. It looked very appetizing when the dish arrived, but as soon as I tried to cut a piece, I immediately knew it wasn't 'light and fluffy'. Just the opposite - it was probably the 'heaviest' and dense French Toast I've had. It tasted good - was grilled perfectly - and after a few bites, the texture didn't seem 'so bad', but it was. As I said I make French Toast with challahs (once a week) from Rolings Bakery to Whole Foods to Famous 4th Deli, and it's never near as dense and thick as the French Toast at Pumpernick's. I would guess it's the challah, not the preparation of the French Toast - but I'm not sure. Which brings me to where the challah is from - I asked - it's from Jeff Solomon Inc, a bakery in Elkins Park, that's been in business about 30 years. Enough about the French Toast, let's talk about the Veggie Omelette, which was delicious! I routinely make omelettes, with vegetables, and this omelette was as tasty as any I've made. There were onions, orange peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes, and both my partner and I were surprised at how much flavor the veggies had! The omelette itself was light and fluffy; it was delightful! There were hash brown potatoes served with the omelette which were cooked perfectly - crispy exterior with a tender and great potato taste. There was a cinnamon raisin bagel that also came with the omelette which was very good. We enjoyed our breakfast notwithstanding the Challah French Toast - on our return - I'll try the pancakes.

These are the breads that are often used in the sandwiches around the areas. These are the rolls that are often used around the sandwich shops in the area. They have the best raisin bread in the entire world. They have the best onion rolls, and cranberry rolls available anywhere I know of. The onion roll goes great with a simple egg, or fresh turkey. While the cranberry roll, combine cream cheese, a bit of sugar and fresh butter, stir till smooth and put on a warm roll. Great way to start your morning with a cup of coffee. The chocolate croissants are perfectly made. Warm them up. The whole grain loaf is like nothing you've ever tasted. It is amazing. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. It's like going into one of the best bakers you've ever gone to. Not for desserts. For baked goods. And they have a very good deli. And the best staff ever!

The left wall was full of wooden racks loaded with beautiful loaves of bread. They were large and extremely tempting. As I was there 30 minutes before closing, they didn't have a full panoply of their creations, but still enough to satisfy me. One of the women behind the counters attended to me, advising what was still available. She first mentioned a half load of sliced rye, which I immediately said, "yes," to. The aroma was strong and I knew I would love it toasted with butter and jam. She next suggested their dinner rolls, of which she bagged a dozen mixed grains, but only charged me for six. She knew what she wanted to sell while fresh, and which would have longer shelf life until the next day. I also grabbed a few large peanut butter cookies to sample later with coffee. Hearth Baker had no pastry, so I wasn't distracted by cakes, pies or other sweet possibilities. I didn't see those sandwiches mentioned by others, but anything stuffed between their bread/rolls would have to be great. What I did buy was excellent. The rye had a slightly sweet, yet grainy savoriness that was delicious, both fresh and toasted. Perfect for sandwiches or accompanying soup. The rolls were also quite good, with semolina and other light/dark flours to modify their flavors. Also terrific just sliced and buttered and ripped apart by my incisors. Those peanut butter cookies were also awesome. A little crisp on the edges, yet chewy toward the middle. Plenty of PB taste. The Hearth Baker would be a great place to learn the artisan craft of baking breads.

As soon as I walked through the doors at Amici, the ambiance made me feel transported back to those wonderful places I remember from so long ago. It was a feeling of comfort, familiarity, and cravings for all the deliciousness housed within. The bread counter on the left was the first stop where I picked up a marble rye and some hoagie rolls. The staff were extremely friendly with suggestions and slicing up the loaf we got. Then it was on pick up two small tomato pies, which are a box of tasty goodness. Had to grab a couple of the biggest pickles I've ever seen. And we couldn't get out of the door without grabbing a small selection of cookies. Sadly I didn't get a chance to taste any of their sandwiches but the menu had my mouth watering. They offer a good selection of pastas, sauces, and other products both sweet or savory. All in all, you cannot go wrong making Amici a regular stop of your own.

It's really a rather small shop with one side being the bakery and the other the deli. 10/10 their cannolis. It's hard to find any bakery that stuffs them fresh but they do! I like that that carry items from other bigger Italian markets like Corropolese and Talluto's. This time around I ordered some sandwiches to go and my dad was super impressed with the Italian hoagie I ordered for him. All the sandwiches come with pickles. You do have to pay extra for hot peppers. The staff is nice and the place is always clean, I'd be interested to try more of their sandwiches as they had a pretty decent menu. Definitely a nice spot in the middle of a Lansdale strip mall.
