Just ate at this place about 30 min ago for lunch with my coworkers. The environment when you walk in is what I would expect from a sub place. There were plenty of places to sit and at the ordering station you have a line of fresh meats, vegetables, and condiments that they put on your sub when you order. They slice the meat right in front of you when building your sub, which is a nice touch vs some of the traditional places like subway that already has everything premade. I ordered their Giant "The Original Italian". They have three sizes there from mini to giant. Let me tell you, giant really does mean giant. It's $13.95 which seems like a lot of money, until you see the loaf of bread that they are going to use which is something that could feed a family. So after the initial shock of the size of your sub, they start slicing and placing the meat on your sub. And they do this very well. They don't just slap it on your sub, but nicely place it in folds like something you would see in a commercial. After that's done, you get to choose what toppings to want. I just ordered it "Mike's Way" with an addition of jalapeno. Mike's way includes lettuce, tomatoes, several other vegetables, and their vinegar sauce with black pepper and sault sprinkled on top. So to get to actually eating the sub. While I could tell all the ingredients were fresh and the taste was pretty good, there were some drawbacks. The bread to begin with is not crunch, it's rather soft, and to top it off the vinegar they applied in massive quantity was dripping down into the bottom portion of my sub making it soggy. I like my bread a bit crunchy, something Jimmy John's does well. This was closer to subway soft bread. Then the flavors, there were many... I liked the amount of vegetables to meat ratio, however I did not appreciate all the vinegar that overpower the taste of everything. Perhaps I should have said "Mike's Way" but with less vinegar. That would have probably rounded it off a bit better. All in all, I found my food to be descent but nothing memorable. There are places that are ok here and there which is true for Jersey Mike's, then there are places you crave and want to keep returning to. This is not one of them. I would come here again with my coworkers if they really wanted to eat here, but it's not a place I would go out of my way for on my own. read more

First time here but have driven by it a lot. Went with a chicken chipotle philly which was made fresh, big and tasty. Prices seem fair for the size of the sandwich. My only really issue was the speed of sandwiches being made. I realize Subway has ruined my patience for sandwich making as they can churn out mediocre sammies lickity split but Jersey Mike's seemed a bit longer than need be. For the time it takes them to make a sub, my advice would be call ahead or grab a seat and wait it out. This is not a grab and go place and if I knew that going in this would be a moot point. read more

This is THE place for sandwiches. Forget Jimmy Johns, forget subway, forget all of the competition. Jersey Mikes is truly the only place that offers quality sandwiches with amazing produce. They also offer hot subs that are far superior than the likes of subway, jimmy johns, firehouse, and so on. Jersey mikes is a nice sub shop but definitely not my number one choice. The subs have good bread but for the price you pay they aren't really that full of meat. This was my first trip to this location and I was very confused by the menu. The numbers don't go in any kind of order on the menu. The people behind the counter just expect you to know what it all means. I love a good sandwich and this did not meet my expectations. I typically only leave positive reviews but felt inclined to share my negative experience. I was soooo excited to be visiting a larger town in Iowa that had a Jersey Mike's. I had been craving a Chipotle Cheesesteak Sandwich and we don't have one in my small town. (I'm originally from Arizona where I had access to J.M). There were 3 employees (one male, two female) working when I walked in and only one person ahead of me. It took a few minutes and then the guy asked if I had been helped. I placed my order and proceeded to check out. The guy in front of me used one of his rewards to get a Free sandwich. Clearly the cashier was being trained... but the trainer walked away when I got to the register. So, even though I had enough points for a free sub it wasn't discovered until AFTER I cashed out. Considering there's no Jersey Mike's in my hometown I would've loved to have redeemed my free sandwich but it seemed like a hassle to refund my money so I thought I would just come back again before I left town. Well I filled my cup and waited for my sandwich to be made. And waited. And waited. And waited. The two girls had disappeared and the male cook was literally standing there on his phone. For what seemed like forever. The women reappeared- noticed he wasn't cooking and I was standing there staring- made eyes at me, but said NOTHING. Woman A continued to show the trainee around... after a few more minutes, right before I asked what was going on she finally went over to the chef and asked about my sandwich. He was like, "oh oops." It had literally been over 5 minutes of just standing there. While he was playing on his phone he has his left glove on and scratched his inner ear, but he didn't change his glove before he touched my food- he just proceeded to put on a right glove and continue to make my sandwich. I was tired and hungry and now nauseas. I probably should've asked him to make me a new sandwich with new gloves, but at that point I just wanted to leave. I threw my sandwich in the trash and skipped dinner. I probably won't return here again- which is very disappointing. I doubt this was the first time he played on his phone during his shift or didn't care about sanitary issues... read more

Every single employee walked around in circles without greeting me and every other customer, as well as avoided all eye contact, as they were obviously intimidated and severely undertrained in some cases, and apathetic in other cases. They don't want to be there, and so by walking in, immediately I got the vibe I presented nothing more than more work to them. These employees need serious help and proper support from management. It took over 20 mins to get one regular sub sandwich, only three people in line, yet they had 4 employees! read more

Decent sandwich. Roast beef seems like the only decent meat. Turkey and ham remind me of the cheap stuff in grocery store deli. Full of water and bland of color. No off the bone ham like grandma made or roasted Turkey. Not a bad sandwich but for the price I'd expect more..$10+ for a regular sub and a drink. Just saying. When you can go to chillis and get an old timer burger with fries on Wednesdays for $6. Apples and oranges but still. $5 footlong anybody? So... I have changed my opinion of this shop from one star to 5 Stars. After our experience our first time (smelled like sewer), I was contacted by the manager and offered 2 free subs. I finally had one today and it is TGE BEST tuna sub I have ever had! Better than Jimmy Johns, FireHouse Subs and Palmer Deli. The tuna was not fishy tasting, the ratio of mayo to tuna was spot on and not too much celery. A little too much pepper for me, but that didn't stop me from eating the entire sandwich! I visit this location many times a month to grab my son a sandwich. On multiple occasions (and for various reasons) I've asked the employees to put on fresh gloves. Today, the employee was mid slicing turkey for my sandwich, when the phone rang. He answered the phone with the same gloved hands he was slicing my turkey, then cradled the phone between his neck and chin ... returning to the slicer and the turkey. Started slicing and stacking more turkey on the bread ... when I interrupted (explaining my concern) and asked him to put on a new set of gloves. He looked at me like a was a bit nuts, but did comply by throwing away that sandwich and putting on new gloves. He then asked a co-worker to take the call on hold (which she did with her gloves on). Unbeknownst to me (but my son saw) ... she finished the call, returned to the prep board (with the same gloves she'd answered the phone with) grabbing the lettuce and bacon for our sandwich. Clearly a common thing to answer the phone and make sandwiches with the same gloves. After I paid, I went out of my way (store was empty) to let the employee who sliced the meat know ... I was not trying to be difficult ... but that I thought it was common sense to not answer a dirty phone, and return to slicing meat with the same gloves. He was clearly not interested in me "educating" him about food safety as he said "thanks miss". (On other visits, I've had an employee use his gloved hand to swipe off hours of crusty sliced bits of various meat, cheeses, etc. off the area under the slicer blade ... then use those same gloves to start making my sandwich. On another visit ... one of the regular gals working ... scraped the prep board lettuce (from various sandwiches made in a row) back into the fresh lettuce bin. The gentleman cleaning the slicer apologized, recognizing his mistake (and just getting too busy) starting fresh with new gloves, and a new sandwich. The gal on the prep area, did get me fresh lettuce, but like the employee today ... looked at me as if I was nuts for caring if old lettuce (and who knows what else off the prep board) got scraped back into the fresh lettuce bin. Great sandwiches, but I as a public service ... I decided to write this review in hopes that management will work on food handling training. read more

100% better than subway... By a long shot! Comparable to Quiznos but a bit better it seems... may be because it's newer for the Des Moines area! The Philly is tasty... Def not as much food as the Philly you can get at Pepperjax Grill ... But that's not bad if your looking for a lighter lunch option. Good food and the hot subs are the best! read more

Good place to grab a sub sandwich, a little pricey ( I think) over $11.00 for a reg. 6" Sub and chips and drink. Join their subclub and get a free sandwich after you buy 10...woohoo!! Bigdeal right? They slice the meat in front of you, so at least you know it's fresher than some of those shops who preslice it days in advance. So that's a plus for me. I keep going back so I must like it!! These are really good subs. They make Jimmy John's do the walk of shame. Similar to Sub City in Cedar Falls, if you're hip to that sort of thing. Subs take a bit longer to make, but that's because they use TLC, not slimy meat and browning veggies (cough, Subway). Italian sub is good, tuna, club melt. All of them are pretty 'boom goes the dynamite'. Glad this place made it's way here. read more

Ate here for the first time. Ordered the #56 hot sub. Philly cheesesteak with onions and peppers and jalapeños. I got the regular sized sub and my boyfriend got the wrap. Came out hot and fresh. The meat could have been seasoned. Was very blah tasting. Perfect amount of cheese tho! Atmosphere was nice and staff was extremely friendly! Wouldn't mind going and trying something else. Was kind of pricey but I would much rather give them my money than nasty subway. read more

Worst Customer Service I have had in 2021. I would have been fine with indifference service, but the employee making our sandwiches was being a straight up asshole to my son and I when we came in at 8:35pm. They do close at 9, and I get that it can be frustrating when you get a late arrival so I am usually willing give people some slack, but both my son and I got nothing but rudeness and a hostile attitude. The employee practically threw the items on the sandwich and yelled at my son that his hot sandwich would be done later before he stomped off after I paid. I was so taken back that I forgot what I was ordering and what I wanted on my sandwich. I regret that I did not walk out while he was in the middle of making our food. This was my first time visiting this establishment and chain (I had heard good things about it) but this will be the first and last time I ever visit. Smack dab in the middle of a strip mall in Clive. Looking like almost every sub shop I've ever been in. With one exception picnic tables outside, I really liked that. What's not to love about sitting outside and enjoying a meal!! I love cold cut sammy's and eat them often. Subs, hoagies, heros, muffaletta all of them. I ordered the #13 original Italian on my first visit. It comes with every Italian meat you would except. When asked if I'd like it Jersey Mike style I said yes. Wont make that mistake again, I think a half gallon of each olive oil and vinegar made it on my sandwich; which made the whole thing a big soggy mess. I really would have loved the bread much better if it had a crust on the exterior. Next time no Jersey Mike style! The meat was mediocre lacking real Italian cured flavor, the pepperoni didn't even have a bite to it. I'm not sure what prosciuttini is, but it tasted like ham. With a prosc in front of iuttini, I was thinking it would be more like prosciutto. Sadly no. The staff were great I was greeted with a smile and everyone was really helpful. Making sure I liked the amount of toppings were on my sandwich. Next time I'm in the area I'll give it an other try and give you an update. read more

You will never eat at Subway again! Being from the east coast, I've had some good HOAGIES, as we called them. This place fills my void. Truly eat fresh applies to Jersey Mikes. Your meat is sliced as they make your sandwich. If you are going to eat it now, order it Mike's way with the olive oil, red wine vinegar, etc. for a true hoagie flavor. Don't if you are eating later. It will be soggy. The prices are a little higher than JJ's and Jared's place but well worth it for what you get. The subs actually look like the pictures. read more

I'm a busy working professional, with minimal time to grab a quick lunch. My office made lunch options more convenient by partnering with Foodsby, a business that partners with local food places, and delivers your orders to your office. I was pleased to see Jersey Mike's as an option through Foodsby, as I've loved that place since they opened in West Des Moines about 2 years ago! As I was scrolling through the menu, I noticed my favorite sub, #17 Philly Cheesesteak, was not an option through Foodsby. I can only assume that is because Foodsby cant promise the sub will remain hot using their delivery service. So I proceeded to order a sandwich that seemed like the 2nd best choice for me. While ordering through Jersey Mike's, they leave you a Notes section at the bottom of the order. In that section, I detailed my infatuation with their Cheesesteak sandwich, and how deeply saddened I was to realize that was not an option for delivery. Low and behold, Jersey Mike's customer service came through. Not only did they read my note, they called me the morning of my delivery to inform me they would in fact deliver my beloved #17. That day for lunch, the sandwich showed up, and it was every bit as good as it is every time I'm able to make it to their place. In my eyes, this is going above and beyond to delight their customer base, and not every business cares to put in the extra effort to do that.
