Everything about this place is amazing, this little piece of history preserved in time. Its like walking back in time. I absolutely adore how much originality has been kept in this place the blood sweat and tears that were put into this place to bring it back to life is just truly amazing. Too see and experience what I have here is just unreal, between the history the haunts and the views its 110% worth a visit. Local to the town just a sly walk and your in the middle of a beautiful mountain town with every turn something absolutely fascinating. We missed the turn for the hotel and ended up on the back road which used to be the main road. Very dark and Barrie. Do not take this road at night. We called the hotel and spoke with Stacy who was the epitome of customer service. She was friendly, knowledgeable and took the time to get us the right directions. Give this employee a raise!! Then there was Barbara who was with housekeeping. Very friendly and told us a bit of history about the hotel. We enjoyed our conversation with her as she was very detailed with the history of certain rooms. We appreciated her time. Give this employee a raise!! The hotel was nice enough for the age of it. Everything worked as intended. Evidently there is "Quiet Time" that is not posted anywhere so if you get a knock at your door from the hotel staff it's probably to notify of this restriction. Other hotel front desk employees seemed like they didn't want to be bothered. I did try to engage in conversation with them but I felt like I was interrupting their day. read more

It used to be five stars. I've stayed in this ancient hotel used to be hospital several times over the years. On the upper floors what was really awesome was that there was a single balcony across with access by all rooms on that floor. People would party and mingle while watching the sunset, which is a spectacular view over neighboring badlands. People would mingle, trade drinks and beers. It was FREAKING AWESOME? Last time I was there the balcony had been partitioned, and there was no longer party time among the residents. You could only get access to the balcony directly adjacent to your room. Bummer. I'm leaving this review mainly because of an incident that happened the morning we checked out. Around 8:30 AM, my wife and I were driving down the narrow road that exits the property when we encountered a man (who I presume to be Lonnie Anderson. As seen on Ghost Adventures) in his blue pickup truck blocking the road and surrounding traffic in the construction area just below the hotel. After waiting briefly to see if he was going to move, he jumped out of the truck and began throwing construction cones around wildly while yelling and cursing at us to hurry because he was late for work. As we drove past, I gave a polite wave and was met with a kick to my truck tire and one last "F you." For a stay that I paid $300 per night for, this was a very disappointing and uncalled for way to end the stay. The rest of the staff, front desk and especially the restaurant servers, were very pleasant and helpful, which makes the experience even more unfortunate.. Im sure most of us at some point in our lives have woken up on the wrong side of the bed before but what's important is that you leave it at the door and come to work polite, professional and respectful. Hopefully this behavior is addressed to mitigate further attacks on guests, families and their personal property while staying at the Jerome Grand Hotel. read more

I reserved a queen size bed with valley view and it was such a great room. It was very clean and comfortable. Had a cold air conditioner with a digital temperature box. When I reserved the room I didn't realize we were going to be on the 3rd floor, the most haunted floor in the hotel. We didn't experience anything. But the floor felt like it was fully booked up so maybe they found other rooms to hang out in... They do let you know that you have access to check the whole hotel.. Employees were super nice, down to earth, and very helpful. The breakfast that was offered was fresh, full and plentiful with coffee, tea, hot chocolate.. muffins, cereal, yogurt, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, etc. I would recommend staying here. This is where I wanted to stay for my birthday. We stayed in room 32 which I heard was supposed to be the most haunted. This hotel use to be a hospital with the asylum being on the 3rd floor. I loved the old time charm of this hotel and all the decorations, I especially loved the old time elevator and watching the passing of the other floors as we went by. Our room had a balcony that over looked the valley below, stunning views. The room was nicely decorated with old time furnishings, which added to the charm. I was all excited for the night and hoping I'd see some kind of activity, that was until I went on a ghost tour and all the stories scared me. I ended up being awake most of the night scared. At one point I know the bathroom light shut off for about 30 seconds then came back on again. (We left the bathroom light on and cracked the door to give a little light in the room) I was unable to wake my husband up so he doesn't believe me. After that I covered my head until I was able to fall asleep. Even though I was scared I'd definitely stay again. read more

Lunch 2 days ago, very disappointed. Salad consisted of wilted brown greens and some soggy calamari. Basic hamburger, limp fries. Margarita was miniature size, Chai latte served in a plastic cup. Boo! Don't be scared to stay at the Jerome Grand Hotel! Yes, you'll hear a variety of things throughout the night and you'll most likely get some real sleep during the day but you will definitely have a great time at this historic spot in Jerome. The front desk staff during our stay were amazing! They were so friendly and welcoming. There is a vintage elevator which requires a key to get it going and you have to open/close the doors manually. So fun! The lobby has a continental breakfast with coffee and juices which was great to nosh on as we decided where to go for breakfast later in the morn when things open. The room was appointed with a queen bed, bedside dressers, tall dresser, small table & 2 chairs and a tv. It was clean and quaint. You get a real room key ! Our room had a wonderful balcony with two lounger chairs that faced the mountain and we enjoyed having our morning coffee out there. Funny thing - there was a group seance in the middle of the night out in our hallway. We thought it was so funny to hear the people communicating with the spirits. read more

Visited the restaurant and stopped in the hotel. I enjoy these so called haunted places. The star loss is that they don't offer any tour or area to see past the lobby unless you get a room. So, this hotel is a blast. A similar room in Southern California would cost twice as much, easily. Yeah, yeah, it's haunted and all that but that shouldn't be the real appeal. It's decor is fantastic and the 100 year old elevator alone makes this place worth a visit. You feel like you've stepped back in time in this place and you should definitely check out every floor--there are four. The room was ENORMOUS (we did pay for an upgraded size room) and it came with its own separate kitchenette with a huge fridge. The hotel is perched on a hill but it's a relatively easy 5-10 minute walk either into town or back from town. The short driveway to the hotel does NOT accommodate two-way traffic in both directions in one small portion of the road so just bear that in mind. We had a "valley view" room and the sunrise visible from our room was amazing. One of the best I've ever seen in my life. I'm not in Jerome often but I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. read more

We stayed here last month on a Saturday night in one of the Balcony rooms facing the town of Jerome. The view from the balcony was amazing and I loved the old elevator with bars you have to slide shut each time you use it. I really liked their bathroom products as well. The makeup wipe was a nice touch. The room itself did not get very cold at night with the AC at full blast. It is located pretty conveniently to Jerome's main street. An easy 10min walk down or up the hill. I just think it was overpriced for what it is. You are just paying for the view. read more

I am a medium and I like to see what I feel at certain locations. I also love old buildings, antiques and history. This place had all of that. I stayed in room 11 with a friend. The room use to be the chefs room. There was a lot of paranormal activity through the night. We had a spirit box, and some other equipment. We also had two cameras in the room. When we played it back we saw two orbs around the bed as soon as we left to go out. We heard things in a couple of the hallways around 2:00 AM. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I absolutely loved my one-night stay here. I really enjoy historic/haunted hotels and this place did not disappoint. It's not cheap but worth the experience. If you can't afford to stay here or if there's no availability, I recommend trying to snag dinner reservations at the Asylum so that you can at least see the hotel. Maybe they will let you take the elevator and briefly view the floors. +Amazing history. The Jerome Grand Hotel was previously the United Verde Hospital (1926-1950). There don't seem to be any official records but sources speculate that about 9,000 people died here. We stayed in Room 34, next to Room 32, which is notorious for the number of suicides that occurred there. +Old school elevator. It's self-service which is a really unique experience. The elevator has a dark history: it pinned a man to death in the basement in the 1930s. +Fun to explore. While we did not experience any ghostly encounters, we had fun exploring all the floors and taking creepy photos and videos. We noted that all the hotel rooms have huge doors, which I believe were built to allow for the movement of gurneys. We found an unmarked door on the top floor that had a large gash reminiscent of a hatchet. Weird! +Room. The rooms were quite nice for an old hotel. Clean. Comfortable bed. Nice bathroom with ample amenities. Large balcony with a gorgeous view of town. +Asylum restaurant. We chose not to eat at their restaurant and try one of the spots in town instead. Unfortunately, our chosen restaurant was closed. We weren't sure if it was too late to get a table at Asylum plus it was raining rather hard. We just ended up eating at a random restaurant which was mediocre. Upon returning to the hotel, we grabbed a drink at the restaurant bar. The ambiance was so pleasant that I really regretted not eating at the Asylum. +Awesome breakfast spread. Bagels, pastries, muffins, granola bars, nuts, yogurt, etc. A generous selection. Plus coffee and tea, of course. +Cute gift shop. They had some fun T-shirt designs (not the usual boring stuff). +Very friendly service from every employee that we encountered. -Parking lot. It's not a big lot but we had no problem finding a spot. However, we were there mid-week on a rainy night. I can see it being totally full on a busy night, especially considering restaurant visitors. Also, the road to get to the hotel is a bit narrow and anxiety-provoking. That being said, the hotel is located on a hill so they don't have much space to work with. read more

We stayed overnight in room 11, which was the chef's room on the 1st floor, down the hall from the restaurant. At 2am I woke up to what sounded like arguing and yelling but I couldn't hear what was being said. It happened twice. Then I heard continuous noises that sounded like clanking from the pipes and walls. At 3am my cell phone lit up but no new notifications had come through. The room we stayed in was the room next to the maintenance guy's room. He was murdered and his body was found in the elevator with his head caught in between the elevator shaft. There is a picture of him with the other staff and there is just a black shadow over where his face is. We were told the picture was taken a year before his death. I asked the lady working the front desk the next morning if anyone reported a domestic dispute overnight and she said no. There wasn't anyone in the room next to us and it's really heard to hear conversations through the concrete walls. I know what I heard though. There's something in that hotel. Overall, I actually enjoyed my stay there. I didn't feel any evil presence because if I had I would have left and probably would have left my sleeping husband who snored all the way through the noises I heard. We ended up staying at this hotel when we didn't want to leave Arizona and wanted to extend our trip a bit. I have seen this hotel on "Ghost Adventures" so was a little leary when it ended up being our only option and only had one room available. We decided to go for it. Being this is a known haunted location I felt like we prob wouldn't sleep but surprisingly got the best sleep we've ever had after having a few interesting experiences. When we first laid down there were some odd knocking noises on the wall behind us. It couldn't be neighbors because we were the furthest room you could get. The bathroom had an eerie feeling in there. I picked up the phone (hadn't called anyone) and heard voices. That was a little odd to me. Nothing being said was audible though. It wasn't like staying at the Ritz Carlton but everyone was friendly. For being a building as old as it is I feel it's well maintained. You can even ride on the original elevator. That was pretty neat. The whole hotel was like being taken back in time. They have the original phones there still operated by a switch board. Even if you aren't into the paranormal it isn't a bad place to stay. The rates are comparable to other hotels and much cheaper than Sedona hotels. The hotel and town overlooks Sedona. It's cheaper staying here and driving to Sedona than staying there. Jerome is a fun little town to go putz around and check out. Makes for a fun little weekend getaway. read more

First trip to Jerome and this was definitely the hotel to stay at to fit the ambience of the town. Rooms were clean! My 14 year old was creeped out because of the antiquity of the hotel "it was old" - exactly was we wanted to complement our experience. Creeks, noises, etc... rickety old elevator - loved it all! Kind of like a creepy scene from an old ghost movie - perfect! Service at the front desk was great and we had a few interactions with different people - all professional, respectful, personable and kind. One (Jenny) even called me to let me know the light was still on in my car she noticed after we went up to our rooms. Little things like that I appreciate. :) We would stay again but would actually try the restaurant the next time. - our only regret. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! Jerome is an amazing little town with such an interesting history. It doesn't feel too touristy but still has plenty to do. The hotel doesn't overdo the haunted past - it still feels very authentic. There are antiques all over. The room keys are still actual keys and you also use your key in the elevator. They have notebooks in the lobby filled with other guests ghost experiences. We should have waited until morning to read these! Rooms have everything you would need and are clean. But remember, it's an older building and they have kept the old look to keep the feel. I highly recommend visiting Jerome and staying at the Jerome Grand Hotel. We didn't experience anything unusual! This hotel has a fascinating history not to mention the town itself! First and foremost, this is NOT the Hilton downtown Phoenix. So if you're expecting that, look elsewhere. This hotel is over 100 years old with a rich and interesting history. Converted from a hospital in the 1990's, the allure is the ghosts of course. We stayed in room #32. This room is normally booked out well in advance so we felt really lucky to score this room. Our night started out pretty quiet, but around 1:40 AM something tapped me on my right shoulder. Of course this woke me out of a dead sleep. It took a while to go back to sleep after this happened. There were a lot of noises of things that went bump in the night. We also felt a male presence in the room. We went into this experience appreciating the rich history and chance to stay in one of the most haunted rooms in AZ! Overall, great experience. read more

What an amazing stay! Wonderful staff at check in who were very helpful, cordial, and friendly. The hotel itself is a trip; perched atop a mountain overlooking Jerome and looking for all the world like the hotel in The Shining. The hotel drips in character, from the 1926 double door Otis elevator to the historic photos displayed throughout the common areas of the hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed, especially given the age of the hotel. We stayed in a balcony room on the 3rd floor and having that balcony, with its view across Jerome and the valley beyond was worth the extra $$. The hotel has a charming, dark wood bar that is very romantic. I would suggest refraining from ordering food as it's prepared by the staff of the Asylum restaurant and I did not enjoy my meal there. But back to the hotel - I will stay here again to enjoy the friendly and informative staff and that view. No ghost sighting on this visit. Perhaps on my next? read more
