Was a time in the first decade of this century that I hung out in Jerome, Arizona, in part to relax and recover from my explorations of the Navajo Rez in this out of the way old mining town atop Mt. Mingus, and also as an excellent way to avoid the excess of nearby Sedona. During the first visits to The Historic Connor Hotel my respite was Room 12, up the creaky wooden stairs to the top floor, where a king bed, private bath and great views of the Verde Valley greeted me every morning. I stayed for several nights, enjoying the first floor Spirit Room Bar and its live music and western comaraderie by night, and its strong coffee and light breakfast at first light if not too hungover. It was a wonderful space to write, reflect and philosophize. It might have been haunted like other places in town, but me and that ghost got along just fine. Two loners we were. I returned three times to Connor, reserving #12 each time. It was a home away from home. Although during those years I occasionally slept in other heads on beds in Jerome when I felt the need for a change, this 1898 stone and brick edifice always had my heart. We stayed in room 10 and it's the perfect size for 1 or 2 people. We did not have any paranormal activity, but I heard that may happen in other rooms. Room service left us with a cute popcorn bowl and popcorn so we had that and watched tv for a bit before hitting the hay in the comfy bed. Super cute hotel and nice staff. We reserved a room for one night to coincide with a ultra marathon event only to find out our room was cancelled by the hotel and given to someone else. However, Anne the manager handled the situation very professionally and booked us at an AirB&B 5 minutes away. While it was an inconvenience, I very much appreciated how the situation was handled. The Connor Hotel is an old hotel in the heart of Jerome. It consists of 12 rooms all on the second floor and only accessible via stairs. The entrance is thru the hotels' gift shop and registration desk on the first floor. Parking is available on the street and available lots nearby. I stayed in Room 5 which had a king size bed and bathroom that faced the street. Everything in the room was nice with its old hotel charm. In particular the bathroom was nice. One unique thing about this rooms' floor is that it is on a slant. The foot of the bed is about 3-4 inches lower than the headboard! The charm of an old hotel not only includes the decor but also the settling foundation. When the gift shop closes in the evening there is a separate street entrance door to get you in at night. While Jerome is a very small town the Connor offers a great location to stay at. It is very close to everything. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and highly recommend it. read more

When doing my research this was the only dog friendly hotel I found in Jerome. The lobby is also a store and the staff were very friendly. The room was quaint and clean, lovely L'occitane toiletries, complimentary water, coffee and coffee mate creamer, popcorn, had a microwave and fridge. It was the room at the very back of the hotel and got plenty of natural light. Noise wasn't an issue--the bar had live music that we could hear on one of the evenings during our stay, but it wasn't too bad. As for parking, you may have to pay if town is busy when you arrive-- I arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 1-1:30pm and paid $4 for about 3-4 hrs. Then once the crowd leaves, parallel street parking is available--that was around 4-5pm--and free. Great historic hotel that I will definitely be coming back to at some point to bring my parents because they'd love it. read more

I love this hotel and can't help but keep coming back. even though I know that Jerome has other antique boutique haunted hotels! The Connor happens to be right above my fasting tasting room, and also sits coincidentally over a lovely little bar, that apparently gets loud and rowdy on occasion, but I can't speak to that because I've never stayed on a Friday or Saturday, or over the bar. I have a soft spot for antique stays, and staying in this one really sets the tone for you adventures in Jerome and the surrounding area. When staying in an old minding town, why wouldn't you want to stay in one of the town's original buildings? My first stay here was in one of the big two bed front rooms with a window overlooking the street. There was a great bathtub with a window and the adorably decorated bathrooms are all a gal could want after a long day of hiking, traveling, motorcycling and adventuring. The hotel might be historic, but the bedding is not! I LOVE The memory foam mattresses and silky soft sheets with an oh-so-chic almost shabby chic duvet. You'll feel like right home at my beloved little Hotel Connor. read more

Years ago, I visited Jerome for the first time. Instantly, I became a fan of this amazing, historic western town on a hill. Recently, my girlfriend and I planned a weekend visit to the Arizona wine trail and I was searching for a hotel. Then I remembered seeing the Connor Hotel all those years ago. Connor happens to be my youngest son's name. And this hotel happens to be fantastic! The Connor Hotel is in the heart of Jerome within walking distance of everything. The website does a good job describing the character of each room, of which, there aren't many. Possibly 12 rooms total. And they do warn of excessive noise from the Spirit Room bar downstairs. We chose room number seven in the southwest corner of the building, overlooking the street below. My girlfriend was concerned that being an historic building, the hotel may not provide some of the things she would need, namely a hairdryer. Boy were we wrong. Not only did they include a hair dryer, they included more amenities than even the fanciest hotels I've stayed at. Sure, the decor is turn of the last century. But they've done an amazing job updating things while retaining the charm. Here are most of the items that I recall, which were included (meaning we didn't have to ask for them): Extra pillows; A full size ironing board and iron; Big screen TV & DVD/BluRay player; Coffee Maker; Microwave and popcorn; Post cards; An old fashioned stove; Local attraction information; A modern bathroom with a shower and whirlpool tub; Soap, lotions, shampoo and the hair dryer we were worried about! The desk folks were friendly and kind, check in easy, the room was comfortable and unique, we had a microwave and fridge, and the view of Cleopatra Hill was nice. Loved the bookshelves filled with books. Water in the bath was hot and plentiful. My mother, uncle and aunt were born here... lives here for 10 years or so late 1920s- mid 1930s while my grandfather worked as a hydraulic miner, and I enjoyed spending time with my ancestors so to speak. Because this hotel books up QUICKLY, and I want to return here with no booking issues, I should definitely not say the following: LOCATION- Great location! Centrally located on Main St. next to most of the shops, wineries, restaurants, and museums. PETS ARE ALLOWED- They even bring in a little doggy bed and treats. However, the guests staying there with their furry pal told me the dogs cannot be left alone in the room. Something to consider if you plan on shopping or dining and don't want to leave your pet tied to a lamppost! I would check on this to be sure.... CHARM- You really feel like you are stepping back in time. The hotel staff consists of delightfully friendly people who will tell you the story of their lives and share with you interesting local lore. I should definitely NOT recommend Room Number 7, my favorite room: BED- Comfy, comfy, comfy! Fluffy blankets and nice mattresses! OLD GAS STOVE- This is how the room is heated: an old fashioned little stove with gas flames but complete with a modern thermostat control. HUGE WHIRLPOOL TUB- Something you can really sink into! If you go UP the street a few stores (forgot the name of the store) you can find wonderful packages of bath salts for about $6.00 (something I hunted for as soon as I saw the tub) COMPLIMENTARY POPCORN- yum! FLOWERS- The older lady who works at the hotels grows her own flowers and roses. Every day she places them in cute little vases and shares them with the guests. And the question everyone has on their minds... IS IT REALLY HAUNTED? Strangely enough, as I was reading a little article about the hauntings at the Connor Hotel, I suddenly heard an alarm clock going off in the room next to mine. The next sentence I read in the article? "Guests have reported the sounds of alarm clocks in various rooms." Definitely made the hair on my arms stand on end. I quickly raced out into the hall to locate the sound, only to discover a member of the staff (the Rose Lady) entering a VACANT room to turn off an alarm clock. Interesting. The only reason I give this place a 4 instead of a 5 is because parking is extremely difficult. However, this comes with the territory. This was a good option for a stay in Jerome. Our room (#2) had a bedroom and living room (with day bed) perfect for the three of us. It had a flat screen in each room and fridge/microwave. The bed was very comfortable. Lord have mercy the noise coming from the bar was atrocious! The hotel staff do a wonderful job warning you about the band but from 10-midnight, it was SO LOUD. I never expected that level of noise and things like street noise or people in the halls don't really bother me. I was pretty surprised. The gift shop attached has a lot of wonderful items inside. I always love browsing in it. If I ever stay here again, I will make every effort to stay in one of the quiet rooms. read more

Prices are fair- anywhere from the $80 range to $170. The rooms are clean and comfortable so you can't be the price. And they hand out L'OCCITANE toiletry items-- the best! There are only 13 rooms at the Connor and they book up months in advance. Make sure to reserve yours in time to enjoy a beautiful stay in one of Arizona's unique and historic mining towns, with one of the greatest views overlooking the red rock country (on a clear day, you can see all the way to Flagstaff)! read more

I just returned from an overnight stay in Jerome and I'm so glad we picked the Hotel Connor. This small hotel is super charming and it's in a great location, right in the heart of Jerome on Main Street. We stayed in room #5 and it is decently sized with a cute private bathroom. I was also very impressed with how clean it was -the bathroom was spotless! It also had one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in at a hotel. It had a pillow-top mattress, super soft linens and was covered in lots of fluffy pillows. There were also a lot of little details about the room that won me over. For example, some of the freebies included a bag of popcorn, water bottles, coffee, tea, chocolates, and L'Occitane bath products. It had all the amenities one would need, such as a coffee maker, mini fridge, microwave, alarm clock, hair dryer and a flat screen TV mounted on the wall. They also don't skimp on the towels in the bathroom. I love that. All in all, I had a great stay and thought it was a good value. I was finally able to book a room and in perfect timing for my birthday! Check In was May 5 for one night. We got lost haha one missed turn. The lady at the front desk I believe her name was Ann? She was very helpful and kept calling us too see where we were and making sure we were okay. We got in town around 930pm checked into our room 10. The room was small but good for two people and No view. Which wasnt a huge issue for us. The bed was very comfy I didnt want to leave. The hotel staff left a mini cake and and wine in our room for my birthday. (Thank You) The only thing I have to mention is the housekeeping left trash from previous night in our room. Behind the door there was beer bottles and containers. But overall I loved the feel of the hotel and definetly will be back for future stays. read more

We stayed there for 2 nights and just got back from our trip. So they leave an envelope for you to tip the cleaning crew. When we arrived, there was a potato chip under one of the chairs and trash under the bed. I guess they did not clean it before we arrived. The sheets and pillows had stains on them. The stay was great. We had an adorable and spacious room. However, we booked online, and were given confirmation of a specific room. Once we arrived for check in, we were met with a different room, and a different price. Considering it was the weekend, we thought maybe the rates were not reflected properly on the website. Upon check out, we were asked, "How did you enjoy the upgrade?" This remark did not register at first, but after some thought, it started to make sense. We just wished that we were told about the upgrade upon arrival, not at check out, considering it was a significant increase in price. I adore The Connor Hotel. Keep in mind that *Jerome* is my boyfriend (he just doesn't know it yet) and I'm at my most content when I'm in this town so any review of any establishment in Jerome is going to ooze with hippy love and reek of kush. I've stayed here 3 times in the last 6 months and I absolutely love it. The last time I stayed here we got lucky and one of the bands playing in the Spirit Room beneath the Hotel we knew from Phoenix. The rooms are equipped with a Plasma T.V., mini fridge, coffee maker and any other amenity you could possible need, including popcorn and yummy little chocolates that made my hangover a little more tolerable the next morning. The king sized bed was clean and comfy and the linens were actually nice... no garden variety motel 6 skank goin' on here. It's also pet friendly which is a plus in my book. As mentioned, parking can be a bit of a challenge, especially with all the bikes... but once you're parked it's not like you need to drive anywhere anyway. Word of warning: The main "office" area closes very early and you have to use the side door to gain access to the Hotel. (for which they provide a key) If you are incredibly intoxicated, you may not remember that doors can open both ways (push....or pull) ahem.... Please pull.... or you'll be leaving crazy slurring messages on your passed out sisters' voicemail (which she will play on speaker at lunch the following day for all to hear) and you will be sleeping on a bench. :) Good Times read more

My sentiments about the Connor Hotel echo other reviewers' in that I just want to live there, damnit! This is the second time the fella and I have stayed there, both times in room #12 (helpful hint: you do not hear the bar in this room). The bed was so comfortable, and it aided in what was probably the first good night of sleep I'd had during the week of hell - er, Christmas. The deep whirlpool tub is a welcome feature, and I wish I could replicate their bathroom at home. You get a good view of the Verde Valley from this room. The hotel is smack dab in the middle of town (though everything's on one lil' street, so that's not saying much), and is run by some friendly characters. It is a 17 second stumble from the Caduceus Cellars tasting bar, and situated above the Spirit Room saloon. The gift shop where you check in has some cute items for sale. My only complaint is against the two families that were staying across the hall from one another and letting their screaming children run wild in the hallways, while the adults sat on the hallway floor. Not the hotel's problem, I'm just whining. I'm sure the other places in Jerome are just as charming, but we're pretty sweet on the Connor Hotel and look forward to returning ASAP. read more

My husband and I have stayed at The Connor several times throughout the years. Namely, room 1, and more recently, room 12. Let me count the ways I wish I could move into this charming hotel: - The staff are exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Recently we booked room 12 for my 30th birthday celebration. Upon checkin, we were delighted to find a bottle of champagne and a small cake with a card wishing me a happy birthday! That is a fabulous touch! I forgot the cake in the room when we checked out, but when I went back to the gift shop the owner was kind enough to retrieve the cake and give it to me. I just adore her! We bring our small dog with us, and the staff always have a dog bed and a bone or treats waiting for him. They will tell you which restaurants are pet friendly so you don't have to leave the pup chained outside. They do require that you do not leave the dog in the room, but the owner advised me that if we are just running out for dinner we could let her know and she would call us if there were any complaints about barking. All the staff are friendly and helpful to the point that you feel like you're staying at Grandma's house for the weekend, just with more privacy! Communicate your needs to them and they will happily do what they can to accommodate. - The rooms are gorgeous. This is not a chain hotel, it is not a 5 star hotel, it is a historic hotel. With that come old school key lock doors, antique furniture, and a general sense that you have stepped back in time. Room 1 overlooks the main square and is directly above the bar, as others have noted. We don't mind the noise because we love music and are usually downstairs enjoying ourselves anyway. I will note that the first time we stayed at The Connor, we were in Room 1 which is rumored to be haunted by the Lady in Red. We heard some very odd knocking along the walls that couldn't be explained by wind or plumbing. Also, one of the lamps kept flickering or turning off and on. Perhaps this could be explained away by old wiring or the fact that the lamp is antique. We also were awakened in the middle of the night by a cold breeze and looked over to see that one of the windows was open. Oddly, the knocking had stopped. Have no fear, though, the Lady must have grown tired of us, for the next several times we stayed in Room 1, nothing out of the ordinary occurred. Room 12 is in a world of its own. I shouldn't say this because I don't want it to be booked the next time we decide to visit Jerome, but the high cielings, whirlpool tub, luxurious bedding, and amazing views make this room very special! We previously favored room 1 for its spaciousness, but I now adore room 12 much more. It is at the back of the hotel so you feel like you have all the privacy in the world and we heard absolutely no bar or neighbor noise. The bathroom window even looks down onto the infamous Husband's Alley. The hotel does book up quickly, but it is worth the wait to get a room. The staff, the ambiance, the amenities, the views! I am a customer service snob. I have high expectations, both as a customer and as a business owner. I love exceeding my clients expectations, but as you know, not all businesses have that same goal. My wife and I haven't been to Jerome in 25-30 years, and wanted to spend one night there on our way through Sedona and to Flagstaff. I chose this hotel based on reviews, the location, and pics on their website (but we've been fooled by nice pics before). This hotel was the highlight of our trip, we both wouldn't stop talking about it. We love staying in historic hotels, but this was the most comfortable, yet still retained the historic feel. I often say the little things you do make a big impact. The water in the fridge, the popcorn, the mints. Well done. We LOVED it. We felt we were staying in an authentic old time cowboy hotel room above a saloon with all vintage wood,high ceilings and doors a tad out of kilter from age. Showers and bath were all updated and they kept the living area authentic as possible and very clean. Lace curtains, tall windows. A bit creepy upon arrival but you soon learn that's by design. I love Jerome, and have been here several times. Two of my friends and I drove up from Phoenix for a weekend in January 09. We were booked into Rm. 6 which had two large Queen beds and I thought it was very quaint, very clean and historical. I remember every step I took in the hallway squeaking. Rm 6 was pretty spacious and the bed was very soft and comfortable. The bathroom was nice and we had a great view right down onto Main street. Mostly we stayed downstairs in the Spirit Lounge and also had fun walking around trying out the different bars along Main street. I had no idea about any notion of the hotel being "haunted" and in fact had never really heard of the Connor until that trip. Later that night, while in bed early in the AM, around 3, I had an "experience" that I still cannot explain- in rm. 6. I know that both my friends were sound asleep, but there was something else in the room..near the ceiling -directly above me. It was not a threatening, or scary thing, and I really can't say much more as the experience turned quite personal. I wrote the whole thing off until several months later, but I couldn't deny that something weird, and deeply personal had happened to me in rm. 6. It may sound crazy, but something I could not see was definitely touching me as I laid there, wide awake. It was the oddest,(and yet, very pleasant) sensation. LOL.. Hello from room 12. We were fortunate enough to book a room at The Connor Hotel in Jerome for two consecutive nights. This place is great. Beyond being in a wonderful location, this hotel is comfortable, clean, inviting, and unique. We will definitely stay here again. Our room and the hallways look great. They've kept the dignity of the old building without compromising comfort or cleanliness. The details in the ceilings and decor make our room a wonderful place to be. We loved to come into the room and have bottles of water, tea and coffee, popcorn, and mints available to us included with the room. The wi-fi works well, the staff is incredibly helpful. On a Saturday night, everything else was completely booked in Jerome. We were lucky enough to secure a room last minutely in the Connor Hotel (Room #7). And lucky were we! You enter the hotel through the gift shop. The women in the lobby/gift shop were so pleasant to speak to and very warm & welcoming. The gift shop has some of the most unique and charming little items I've ever seen and I even ended up picking up something for myself. The building has kept its aged old charm. The floor and steps quietly squeak and I'll be damned if that's not the original flowery carpeting. Our room was nothing short of cozy albeit spacious. We opened the windows to let a nice, cool breeze in. The bed was big, soft and you'll sink right in. The room, despite its age, was very clean and well taken care of. This room was the room that we said we felt the most "at home" in during our entire trip in the Southwest, a welcome experience. We're bathroom snobs honestly and the bathroom was absolutely PRISTINE and spacious. Even though we didn't use them, the tub had jets in it. They provided us with L'Occitane hair/body care products, fanceh. There were even little towels wrapped nicely that said "for makeup removal"-- how thoughtful. There was a coffee maker in the room that we did not use, and there was popcorn and a bowl to make popcorn with the microwave in the room. There was a mini fridge we did use. There was also a flat screen TV we did not use. The room was equipped with an old time gas stove for heating which we did not need. The AC unit was above the door and worked well. There was also a fan on the ceiling that kept the air flowing nicely. We loved the (original? don't know) ceiling in the room. Also Room #7 is above Caduceus Cellars and far from the Connor Hotel bar, so no worries about noise. We can't say we encountered any paranormal activity, but we've heard over and over that a lady haunts the place. We would have given 4.5 stars if possible because it was a little pricey for what you get, but we were taken last minutely which was a huge relief. So rounded up to 5 stars.
