I have to say, out of every single hotel, suite, airbnb, ANYWHERE that I have stayed, this is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. I cannot say ENOUGH amazing things about this gorgeous place. It is truly MAGICAL here, honestly. We accidentally stumbled onto Andrea's property and were so curious because the outside was SO beautiful and inviting. She gave us a quick tour and we FELL IN LOVE. It is SO cozy and SO beautiful inside and out in the garden. We made it a point to come back. A couple months later we came back and the hospitality here is just perfect. I love every single room here; there are so many stories to tell about this place!! It is so comfortable and I seriously feel like I'm living in a fairytale when I stay here. We are making it a point to come here every other month. I have to say, Andrea's breakfast is one of a kind. While it is a beautiful location and beautiful grounds it is not at all relaxing as the owner follows you around at times and is very finicky. I did not appreciate being snapped at when I tried to get juice from the breakfast table and had to endure a 30 minute lecture from the owner on all the food she prepared, ridiculous. Loved this place. My wife and I stayed here for a quick getaway weekend. We'd driven by this home many times, but this was our first time staying. Andrea was very personable and showed us around the entire home. She confirmed our dinner reservations for us at a nearby restaurant as well. We stayed in the Master's Suite, which was very spacious and included lots of reading material, a separate sitting room and clothing closet, a nice balcony, a terrific view of Jerome, and some novel board games. The rest of the house - living room, kitchen (with beverages and baked treats!) - was available to us throughout our stay as well. Breakfast was incredible. Andrea gave us a full description of the meal she prepared before we ate, and - long story short - it was beyond delicious! Home is also within walking distance of the downtown area and the Jerome Grand. Tricky, very narrow street (in terms of driving) to get to this house though. Loved this place - would love to return. read more

I tried to stay here about a week ago and unfortunately there was a bad spider infestation. There was only one during the day, but as soon as night came around 11pm, we counted over 12 large spiders on our ceiling. Definitely can't sleep like that... We left immediately and emailed them the next day. They didn't respond, didn't apologize or anything. So 3 days later I left a review on google. The owner actually replied denying it and accusing us of doing/leaving drugs around which is a LIE!! They accused us of over indulgence of wine - we had 2 glasses each of the complimentary wine THEY offered. They also accused us of leaving food containers around- the "food container" was a box of very expensive cookies that we offered the OWNER when we arrived as a gift!!!!!!!! Bug infestation and slandering owners... Not to mention layers of dust on everything, and wiped the floor and it was black (they use a Swiffer mop which isn't very sanitary) What a horrible experience. I will never stay here again, and I'm spreading the word like wild fire (most people I talk to have never even heard of this place, but they have now!!!) If the owner returns the $150 deposit as well as paying for the turn of events that occured due to us having to leave an unsafe situation, THEN I will take down all the reviews and pictures. We decided to take a 'staycation' in Jerome, Arizona for my husband's birthday this year. After checking places online I found The Surgeon's House, the photos of the house made it very intriguing. We were lucky to book a room in a short notice. Andrea, the owner, was so kind and helpful on the phone, I could hardly wait to meet her in person. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by Andrea, who gave us a tour her beautifully decorated house and then we were taken up to our lovely room which is called The Maids Room Back. There was a private patio for us to enjoy along with a 'secret pathway' to her incredible gardens out back. Our delicious breakfasts were lovingly made by Andrea and we thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the other guests as we devoured our food. After we ate, we wandered about in her spacious gardens. Various artifacts and art pieces can be discovered everywhere you turn. It's truly a real Shangri La. Koi ponds, fountains, lounge chairs, hammock, fire pits, you name it and she has it. We are certainly planning to stay at The Surgeon's House at Christmas-time. Yearly, Andrea decorates the house magnificently for the Holidays, so I can hardly wait. We enjoy coming to visit Andrea! She is very personable, makes amazing farm to table dishes, the lush gardens and fountains. We love sitting outside in the garden watching the Koi fish and having a glass of wine or if cold hanging out by the firepit and overlooking the amazing views of Jerome, Clarkdale and Cottonwood. We enjoy hearing about all the history in the town of Jerome and Andrea makes great suggestions on places to eat or visit in the area. We just returned from a lovely weekend at The Surgeon's House Bed & Breakfast, which is just down the hill from the Grand Hotel. The owner, Andrea, is an amazing hostess and cook, a kind of spiritual guide to some (in a very cool, and definitely non-culty way), as evidenced by the types of comments made in her guest registry, and the possessor of a very green thumb. It's amazing to see the photo album that documents the state of the place when she bought it and the incredible amount of work she has put into her home, which she shares with many people who never seem to feel like strangers. The grounds are worth the visit alone- at once sprawling and meandering- full of flourishing flora (and a few fauna) that one would not expect to see in one place in Arizona. There are many nooks and crannies inside and outside of the house, where unexpected seating appears, inviting one to curl up with a great book, or just sit and let the city wash away. My father-in-law commented that it would be a wonderful locale for a corporate retreat or team-building activity. There are four rooms available, The Maid's Front and Back, The Master's, and the Chauffeur's. The Chauffeur's is separate from the rest, which has its sound-proofing benefits (if you catch my drift) and is by far the funkiest room, with the brightest and most eclectic decor. The bathroom is open, so don't share it with someone who has a shy bladder. There are interesting and odd old books all over, no TV's, and 2 resident cats. If you're a cat person like I am, you'll understand immediately why I said before I even knew there were cats on premises, that there ought to be. Finally, Andrea's breakfasts are just fantastic. Like everything else, the two we had were eclectic and appealing. There was salmon, tilapia, fresh bread, asparagus, marinated mushrooms, juices, coffee, fruit, the best scones any of us have ever had, eggs Lindsey (scrambled with Monterrey Jack and paprika), and more. All made fresh, all made by Andrea with love and best wishes for her guests' good health. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Jerome, now that we have experienced the Surgeon's House, and Andrea's warmth. It's clear she's doing what she was meant to, and we're all just lucky that she's willing to be so honestly generous with her Sanctuary. read more

I can't say enough good things about this B&B. We stayed during their Crimson and Cooper special which was $145 for all rooms Sunday-Thursday and half off the second night. You also got a voucher to return at the same rate over the upcoming summer. We stayed Thursday and Friday night in the Maid's Suite Back. Normally, the room is $175 a night but with the special, both nights came out to $260 including tax. It had it's own private bathroom, sitting room, and outside patio that had it's own private entrance. The bed was a little hard but after walking around all day, it still ended up being comfortable. I also spent alot of time curled up on the chaise lounge with a chenille blanket in the room. There was also a faux fireplace heater which kept me nice and toasty on that lounge. The tub/shower and sink is a part of the sitting room which was a little odd but we didn't mind. There is no TV or Wi-Fi which forced me to relax more. I appreciated that. The grounds/gardens are nice and many little spots throughout the house and yard that you could catch some peace and quiet. The views from the front porch of the house are incredible and my husband and I spent a few mornings drinking coffee out there looking out. The breakfasts that Andrea made were amazing. The first morning, the dishes consisted of a seasoned white fish, homemade mustard sauce on the side, a cauliflower bake, bread pudding, marinated zucchini, cheesy grits, and homemade vanilla scones. The scones had a homemade cream and chocolate sauce on the side. Oh and before the hot dishes were put out, there was a homemade sorbet on the plates. The second morning, there was a mix on the plates consisting of bananas, yogurt, and some granola I think. The hot dishes were a shredded pork, irish soda bread, cinnamon scones, cheesy eggs, and sauteed mushrooms. Of course there was the various juices and coffee. In the fridge was also stocked with drinks, beer and wine for the guests. This was easily one of the best B&B's I have stayed at and it is rated #1 on Tripadvisor. This B and B is an absolute gem. It is the only place we stay when we are away for the weekend in Jerome. It features 4 rooms all of which are unique and have their own bathrooms. The grounds of The Surgeon's House are also very serene and beautiful. There is greenery, running water, and koi ponds everywhere. When I came here before it was almost always a miserable experience. Not because of Andrea and her beautiful home she lovingly restored, but because of the company I kept. I would leave my room and walk her gardens, or go chat with her a bit. Both gave me a welcome reprieve from sadness I was feeling. She has an ethereal quality about her, she is beautiful inside and out, and I told her she looked "as beautiful as Linda Evans", an actress I admired from a tv show I had watched as a child. Going back with my current boyfriend gave me an opportunity to enjoy her home fully. With an abundance of joy this time. The surrounding town also had a bright light during my stay. New memories replaced old, and after my twentieth plus time there, I finally saw all the beauty Jerome has to offer. Jerome has history, and the surgeons House was once home to the hospitals chief surgeon (now the grand hotel, and I can verify it's haunted after staying there) I will definitely go back!!! read more

If you are looking for a relaxing, beautiful, rejuvenating, comfortable and welcoming B&B you need to stay here. Andrea is absolutely amazing. She is a warm, welcoming individual and makes you feel at home and like you are best friends immediately. Her home is gorgeous with a garden feeling both inside and out. Her fun decorating makes it a wonderful way to explore the beautiful home seeing what each wall reveals about the town, the history of the B&B, or Andrea herself. There are no TVs, so its a wonderful peaceful retreat. Lets take a minute to discuss the food. Seriously, the best meals we had in Jerome were consumed in her house! Amazing, delicious, healthy breakfasts. (There are some sweets available that will knock your socks off too!) She has coffee and tea in the mornings, and some snacks available during the day. Even if the house wasn't as beautiful as it was, seriously the breakfast alone is worth the stay! Rooms, they are really nice! We had a chance to stay in the Chauffeur's Quarters and the Maid Suite Back. We were able to check out the Master bedroom and the Maids front since they were empty for a few hours while we were there. The Chauffeurs Quarters is amazing and private. It has its own private garden and balcony with a great view. It was so nice! The Maids Suite Back is equally as wonderful, but part of the main house, so not quite so private as you can hear people coming up and down stairs and occasionally a conversation. That suite also had its own private garden area which was wonderful for having morning coffee or an afternoon cat nap. Just a side note on the gardens around the house. We thought they were gorgeous even though we visited in Feb and they were no where near the beauty that will arrive with spring and summer. Our personal favorite is the chauffeurs suite with its private balcony and great view. Andrea, the hostess and owner, runs a first class operation. She is warm, friendly and informative, and treats her guests with dignity and respect. There is no fooling around. She has high expectations for your visit and expects other guests to be respected as well. Breakfast is unbelievable .... Always an assortment of delicious dishes that are unique and flavorful. Andrea prepares each dish with a heart felt love of the kitchen. You will not leave the Surgeons house without a gift, an offer to take along breakfast leftovers such as sticky buns and breakfast treats, and a heart felt goodbye. We stayed in the Masters suite which had a private balcony overlooking the Verde Valley. The room was very clean and spacious. Lot's of history hanging on the walls to read with a reading nook or sitting area in the room. Snacks were provided in the kitchen in the evening and you can help yourself to beverages in the fridge. Breakfast was at 8:30 AM which was absolutely amazing. The sticky bun was out of this world. I will be craving her food. The gardens are beautiful with koi ponds tons of seating areas and fire pits. If you get a chance there's photo albums in the living room to look at about previous owner and renovations made. Was really neat to see all the love Andrea has put in the home. This is the real deal B&B experience. Andrea is the most hospitable, down to earth, nature, tree, and human loving individual I've ever met! She cooks with passion and exquisite taste. If you don't have the palate of adventure, it may be too different for you, but everybody on both mornings was excitedly happy and surprised by the massive offerings for breakfast, and the delightful brownies at night! She even leaves wine, beer, and sodas for you in the fridge. It feels like it's your home away from home, and you're being hosted by your favorite human. Andrea makes it that way. She splashes the energy of calm, cool, and nature loving throughout her beautiful home. The grounds were UNBELIEVABLE! It's truly the secret garden or Arizona! We were dazzled by bumblebees in the many sunflowers, and danced for by butterflies constantly. There are luscious grape vines, beautiful apple trees, endearing koi ponds, and every nook and cranny of the ever flowing gardens offer a new surprise of expert level smiles. Each room has a balcony to participate in the garden experience too! If you want a romantic retreat, solo trip of solitude and discovery, or a relaxing unplug from the rest of the world with a close friend... Look no further than making this your temporary home. It's location to everything in town is amazing. Haunted hamburger is right across the street. Yum! A cute little bar is a stone throw down the hill. And the rest of the city is just down the heart attack steps almost right out the front door. I already am yearning to go back... It's just that magical. For 10 years now I have been venturing to Jerome. For 10 years I have only slept at the Surgeon's House. If something is perfect, why change? My first trip there was in the dead of winter. I stayed 10 days, which I guess was not the norm. When I made the reservation, Andrea said "10 days? In a row?". Yes, in a row. I remember the first time checking in. Andrea was saying something... it was a distant buzzing in my ears. I was so entranced by my surroundings, lost in looking at things (its like a museum) that I had no idea what she was saying. She looked at me with a quizzical look that led me to think that she had no idea if I spoke English. It was a vacation that I will never forget. Living in the mild climate of the SF Bay area, I didn't know what types of clothing I would need for 10 days. Much to her assistants chagrin, I brought enough luggage to put his back out trying to get my things upstairs.. Ooops. Sorry Buddy. The gardens are amazing. It has been so wonderful for me to see them grow and change over the years. Each time I return there is more to see, smell and touch. More nooks to hide away in and relax, more water falling to take my mind away. The breakfast is unlike any other I have experienced. Several courses are served and several courses are devoured. I am sure that I am not the only one who has ever sat at the table, wet from the napkin ring that doubles as a flower vase. Yes, Andrea warned me... yes, I dumped water on myself anyway. All of these years later, I still go back. I still make "Dave only knows Cookies" from Andreas recipe book (you really should get a cookbook to take home with you) and I still have a dear friend in my life. I love this place. I love Jerome. There is not another place in the Verde Valley that I would lay my head at night. read more

This was a great place to stay! We were up in Jerome for the weekend. We stayed 1 night at the mile high inn and 1 night here. Andrea was great and really friendly. The house is really neat. There is a bunch of outdoor seating for relaxing and listening to the koi ponds on the property. We stayed in the maids suite (back) which was our favorite room. It was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Had our own French doors that led to a private seating area and there was a secret side walk that we went to the back yard. She made and served a delicious breakfast the next morning. Also met new people with the other couples that were there. Definitely looking forward to staying again! read more

This is my happy place. I walked the halls of this sanctuary over 10 years ago and it has been with me ever since. This past weekend I brought a dear friend of mine up to celebrate her birthday. In all its magic, we even agreed to change rooms from one night to the next to stay here over any other place available- I would also like to point out she was able to accommodate us on an absolute whim being that we made reservations the night before we wanted to come. The house is immaculate considering its age-it has clearly been loved and tenderly cared for by Andrea, the owner. This visit, we met Deborah and Rose, along with Andrea, who were there to take care of our every need and they, too, clearly genuinely love being part of The Surgeon's House. There are many beautiful, living plants throughout the house and little pieces of the towns history on the walls. The main sitting area downstairs has ample, comfortable seating and books galore. The rooms are much more than adequate, even providing everything from shampoo to tums! We stayed in the maids suite front and back and LOVED both rooms. The gardens-there's multiple levels- are breathtaking and have surprises throughout. From the plentiful variety of lush plant life, to the many cozy places to sit and enjoy the grounds and the views in all their glory, it is an absolute must see. There's even TWO koi ponds- Andrea will share the names of each of the many fish if you ask! The breakfast that is served is truly unparalleled. The unique spread of HOME COOKED choices are delicious, to say the least AND you can take any of the left overs for later(chubby kid happiness). To say that we enjoyed our stay doesn't even begin to express the experience. This place is one of a kind and as much as I would like to keep it a secret it MUST be shared. To Andrea, you are a brilliant hostess who wears the passion and pride of your home in your smile. Caring for strangers is not always easy, we are nurses so we know that for sure. What you have created has branded me with a lifelong memories, leaving me only wanting for "just one more day". The entire experience with Surgeon's House and with the owner Andrea could not have been any better. We booked the maid's quarters back ( the smallest room ), the room was $120 and we paid an extra $50 for an early check-in (11am). The room was VERY small, but this was not a bad thing for us, we loved the charm and the coziness of the room. There were also plenty of extra blankets and pillows stashed away in the closet, so we were very comfortable. Also adding to the charm of the room is the European bathroom. The bathroom "is" the shower ! There is a drain on the floor and the toilet paper is in a secure plastic container and the shower head is in the wall of the bathroom. There is a little window in the little bathroom, which when kept open allows for an awesome shower. I loved loved loved it! The entire home is decorated with beautiful items and the home contains artwork from local artists. There is an adorable little guest bath on the main floor that is very unique. There are several little nooks and crannies on the property that you can sit and relax in and have total privacy. The food is just to die for! The treats that were available upon arrival included some brownies, dried fruits, and cookies. My fav were the brownies..they were moist and gooey just like a brownie should be. There is also wine and beer available in the fridge, so you can help yourself to as much as you want. Sodas were also available. You can tell that Andrea loves food and takes great pride in the ingredients that she uses. The food is served buffet style and there was more than enough for everyone. There were some delicious scones, breakfast potatoes, fresh fruit, 2 juices, crab fritatta, and some other goodies. I have to say that you must try her hot chocolate, the mix is done by Andrea and I have NEVER had hot chocolate that good...it even had tiny white chocolate chips in it !!! I have stayed with Andrea twice and really I'm plotting a way to pull off life just like her. This b&b is magical, the gardens are expansive with two large koi ponds, an atrium full of plants and books....it's one of my all-time favorite places to stay in Az. Very good for a romantic weekend getaway. Would recommend master suite for the view. Maids suite for an awesome bath and private patio that leads directly out to the gardens. And chauffeurs room for something more secluded or for a larger party. All rooms are beautiful and just go - pictures don't do it justice. read more

Andrea's place is fantastic and she herself is a wonderful host. My husband booked her place for my birthday and she even put up birthday balloons in our room which I thought was very sweet. The gardens are incredible, lots of space, patio furniture in every little nook so you can enjoy the gardens and the views, koi ponds, fireplaces... very cozy and romantic. The rooms have everything you need and more. We didn't bring bug spray with us, well, the little medicine cabinet in the bathroom had some. And some sunscreen. And any other toiletry you forgot to bring. The bed was very comfortable to sleep in. Both nights we stayed there Andrea had homemade brownies out in the afternoon if you got a sweet tooth and lit a fire in the outside fireplace just in case anyone wanted a fire. Again, she is just a fantastic host. My only not gushing comment will be about breakfast. Now, again, Andrea goes absolutely above and beyond for breakfast. EVERYTHING is homemade, including mustard and other condiments. And everything is absolutely delicious. My problem was it was just not breakfast. The first morning, she served tri-tip with broccoli and mushrooms and mashed potatoes, the second morning, it was fish with cauliflower and mushrooms. I tried a little bit of the meat and mushrooms the first day but I just could not bring myself to eat fish first thing in the morning. I love fish, it's just not appetizing for breakfast. She also served egg souffle and an egg quiche so I stuck with those. I just think all the effort she goes through to cook this gourmet dinner for breakfast could be easily avoided if she just served a couple of homemade quiches, some eggs, maybe homemade waffles or pancakes... you know... something breakfasty. Again, it's just my preference, if you can handle broccoli and fish for breakfast great!:) With that said, Andrea's place is great! I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to spend a couple of nights in Jerome and have a charming and quaint B&B experience. read more

This place is incredible, to say the very least. The grounds are beautiful with the most amazing views of the town. There are endless books, plants, and art creating a uniquely relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. It is easy to feel right at home. Andrea goes above and beyond to accommodate and the breakfast she made was out of this world! I highly recommend the Surgeon's House if you're stopping in Jerome. My only regret was not staying longer. I can't wait to return! read more

My husband and I chose to celebrate our ten-year anniversary at The Surgeon's House in Jerome, Az. The moment we walked in the door, the owner, Andrea, made us feel special. She immediately showed us around, inviting us to make ourselves at home. The first room we were shown was the atrium, which contained many lush plants and lots of windows, offering beautiful views of the Verde Valley. Our hostess had scattered many comfortable chairs around, inviting a guest to curl up by the fireplace and read one of the hundreds of books strategically placed all over the house. Andrea then pointed out the "midnight snacks" (which were available at all times), for the guest that may not be able to make it to the next meal. These were small things like mixed nuts, dried fruit and brownies. She also offered complimentary drinks including soda pop, beer, and wine. Before showing us our room, she took us outside to her gardens. Were they ever breathtaking! There were so many plants and flowers, I could never name them all, but it remained a calming place to sit and relax. My favorite spot in the garden was the area that contained a hammock to lie on and nap or read. Andrea then took us upstairs to show us our room. We had requested The Maid's Suite Front because of the dual view it offered. Having many windows on two walls, it offered a view of both the gorgeous gardens and the amazing Verde Valley. Since I love to sleep, the first thing I did was lay on the bed. It was very comfortable! There were also a few comfortable chairs in our room, in case we wanted to curl up with a book upstairs instead of down. In my opinion, the part that made me know for a fact that I would visit again was the breakfasts. Created and prepared by Andrea, these meals were downright amazing! She is so creative in her cooking, you would almost think she was a professional chef. The first morning, she made a poached salmon. This may sound a bit plain, but she cooked it in citrus and dill, and included a side of homemade wasabi mustard. There were cheesy grits that were so delicious, my husband (who hates grits) went back for seconds! She also served marinated baby Portobello mushrooms. She marinated these mushrooms in such a way they tasted like steak! There was an egg frittata that included seasonings like cilantro and paprika, and a dish made from squash and zucchini fresh from her garden. While we were eating, Andrea made sure to come see each one of us individually to make sure we were happy with what we were eating. All in all, it was an amazing experience! I would definitely recommend The Surgeon's House to anyone traveling to Jerome looking for fairly inexpensive accommodations, and I will be returning to stay sooner than later. read more
