This is my favorite and most frequented library so far for studying (and I've been to 9 different…read morelibraries this year). There are 3 floors. The 3rd floor is a designated quiet floor. And the 2nd floor, although it's not specifically a quiet floor, is usually quiet enough for me to not need headphones. Also, because there are 3 floors, I am almost always guaranteed to find a free table. There are over 30 tables throughout the library (not including cubicles). They also have a little eating area on the first floor which is great if you plan on being there for an extended period of time/during a meal time. They have some snacks you can buy there as well. You can eat non odorous snack foods in the library, but if you have a sandwich or got food delivered, you need to eat in the cafeteria area. Overall, this is my absolute favorite library. Plus all the staff has been very kind to me and super helpful. 10/10 would recommend if you need a quiet place to study for the day!

This review is for Allison…read more After my parents umpteenth time indoctrinating me that " There are golden houses in books ",( Chinese proverb), reading becomes one of my joys (escapes). Now, I have become that garrulous mom to my own kid. LOL! Going to library and borrowing books my son and my indulgence. Today again, we want to coddle ourselves. As we walk in, it seems to us no one except Allison sitting in the back working on something looks like data entry ( Actually, there is one person sits behind a checkout computer later on we find out). Allison drops whatever she is doing and walks up to us asks if we need help. My son asks if he can get a book called" Statistic". Allison right way checks on her screen and unfortunately, it s out. My son face shows a slightly downhearted. But as soon as Allison says she may find something else for him. He becomes hearty as always. Two of them hit off in no second! Allison speaks "their language"!!! Whoa!!! They take off to the upper level section while I sit down on a shallow green cozy sofa resting and checking my Yelp for some lunch inspiration. My son comes up to me:"Mama, LOOK! These are so HEAVY! Like 8lbs! Just like the fish you just bought!" LOL! Then he camels his joy to the check out window. There we find out a lady behind down under. As we try to figure out how to safely carry out these treasure, Allison AGAIN comes by and gives a paper bag to my son.... At the moment I think this lady must have substantial passion toward her job and she has extremely high EQ and IQ. Allison also sweetly informs me that the books can be extended if not finished in two weeks. I smile back at her. I know my boy devours books he heart for. Thank you Allison for enriching my son and showing him altruistic tendency.

One thing…read moreI don't like abt this place is that some (not all) of the workers talk very very loudly with other workers. Way above normal conversational voice. You are working at a library!! This person walked in and started talking (more like screaming to me) like she was making a presentation to a crowd. Small conversations or stepping outside for a chat would be a nice, logical normal thing to do. Not to mention polite thing to do.

About a library, no less…read more Currently, I'm rocking some fast wifi, plugged into a nice lamp outlet (on every table) and watching the sunset over Cold Spring Harbor. What?! Aren't libraries supposed to be damp, dusty dungeons? Not when you're dropping CSH taxes :D. Besides this room there are small meeting rooms, tutor rooms, a children's center, a porch with chairs, plenty of computers to use, and a main room that looks like an awesome lodge. There are some fatty leather chairs around this place that I would take home and put in my house. The dvd selection is large, you can download e-books to your tablet and rumor is there are some books somewhere around here. No joke, this is the best library I have ever seen. Take a second to enjoy the quiet and the view here anytime you can.

Not seeing an address or place to write them up on Yelp, I add this review of their show. The band tonight consisted of Julio, a Singer/Guitar player, a bassist, keyboardist, 2 drummers & a Conga player playing tall 3 ft x 1ft floor standing drums. Together as musicians they brought the sounds and feels of "Santana" to the audience as well as each taking time to just jam. Upon thier introduction, Julio said to the audience, "Remeber, you guys make the Joy". They certainly did, as many were moving, clapping, tapping, dancing and enjoying the beat. Why inside on a Tuesday at 6? Blame the weather as they had been repeatedly rained out. A chat with Julio, told me a bit about the band and how he got involved. The Band started in 2005. He was a singer. Guitarist came and went. Finally, they said to him "why don't You just play" as well. So, he did. Being Porta Rican and fluent in Spanish he's able to cover all the Spanish songs as well. He started playing guitar at age 11 here in the states as he was introduced to the sounds of Rock & Roll, Beatles and all the upcoming types of music and changes there after. I grew up with the children's section and now as an adult love taking advantage of all the HPL has to offer. Tons of events are happening every month, check out the bulletin boards near the entrance for interesting and fun things, be sure to visit the basement as well. Might catch a book or art fair, maybe even a lecture depending on the day. Always clean, well organized and spacious, despite the open layout there's usually a quiet corner (within a large two floor setup) to retreat to if needed.

I have gone with my daughter for the mommy and me class. It is incredible. The kids all have a great time and it flies by. We don't stay afterwards, but there is a great area for young kids to hang out and read...or more likely be read to. It's a nice place and they are working on some construction there too, so I presume it will be even better. It also has a great classic look. I like it and they have tons of cool things going on.

Tonight's event was making Summer salad. 2 different salads were prepared by Sheetal Alreja - for a seating of about 30 women in the Community room downstairs (Recipes were placed on the table from one of the librarians or assistants) (see pix) -- with her husband Gotham helping to serve and share the two very different salads. While her mom was on the sidelines holding her jewlery and rings as she put on gloves. There was pleasant interaction with the audience and it was a nice hour and a half event for the night. As there are so many types of salads and foods that can be made and shared it would be nice to have them back again.

Local Library. I…read moreconsider myself lucky to have such a well stocked and well manned library in my town. They usually get the latest books fairly soon after publication and if it is not on the shelf they have a quick and painless set up to request it when it becomes available. They also have a large selection of movies and audio books as well as a vast array of periodicals. To round it all out, they maintain a very comprehensive website. Big parking lot on the side.

I actually gasped when I walked in the first time after they reopened. Everything is neat and tidy with each section clearly marked. The Teen Zone is my personal favorite - all cozy and fun in its own space on the main floor. The staff are great and more than willing to find answers to your questions. You sometimes have to bounce to different specialists for certain questions, but I've always been able to find someone who could help me with what I need. I'm glad I live close by. It's a great excuse to visit this charming little place every so often!
