Great inclosed child playroom, that is perfect for kids 1-5years old. The child's side of the library is also separated from the main library, which is nice for both the kids and adults on the other side. Librarians are very nice and helpful. read more

I visited the Farmingdale Public Library to study with a friend for a couple hours yesterday. At around 10 am on a weekday, there was plenty of parking available and many open tables to work at. I haven't been to the library in ages, and it was a joy to see other patrons making use of the space, especially the little kiddos coming to borrow books from the children's section. I didn't get to explore all the different sections, but I did find the ladies' room to be very clean. My one complaint is that the main area with all the large tables did not seem to have working air conditioning, while one of the sections without any tables was very cool. On a hot day like yesterday, the AC would've been so nice. read more

This is a much needed , overdue review , but a difficult one to write , as this once magnificent library has gone so frighteningly downhill over the last 20 years due to awful management dovetailed with a combination of public indifference and ignorance . Most people take libraries for granted , as if they manage themselves , but having served as a trustee for another local library , I am well aware that decisions made by directors , reference librarians and library boards are what make for huge differences in what is offered to the tax paying public . LIBRARIES WITHIN A SIX MILE RADIUS THAT ARE EVEN EVEN ONE FOURTH THE SIZE OF FARMINGDALE HAVE THREE OR FOUR TIMES THE SIZE OF ITS SCIENCE , ART AND HISTORY HOLDINGS ( check Plainedge , Wantagh , Seaford , Bethpage , Plainview , Hisksville ) ! Empty shelves are what characterize this visually stunning , physically comfortable building . Farmingdale Library is a " school district library " , which means that although it has a separate tax levy and elected board , the boundaries and polity of the district are identical with Farmingdale School District ; this is all the more reason why residents should be outraged at how horribly their library has been mismanaged . The set policy I was provided with by one senior reference librarian was that if a book had not circulated in three years , it would be removed and donated to venues that provided free books to other countries . But most of these books cost upwards of $30 , and every penny , taxpayer's money ! I took a lot of time last evening ( (4/13/22 ) to provide photographs illustrating what you will really see ...and not see....here . Please take a look , and pardon the glare from the ceiling lights ( as with most libraries , Farmingdale is certainly well lit ) . POSTSCRIPT : The photos did not upload in proper order , History , Fine Art and Science should be first , contrasted with the large SCi Fi , Manga and Mystery collection . There was no room left for my photograph of the huge Cooking section ( of which the library is very proud ) , the immaculate lavatory , the soaring roof or the beautiful basement display area , but again , the empty shelves are my only reason for having taken many hours to inform you , the public , about the reality of Farmingdale Public Library . I do hope this review rallies some public indignation over the gross mismanagement that has long characterized what was once the finest gem of a library within a 15 mile radius , Port Washington having been the only one north of Merrick Road equaling Farmingdale when this modern building first opened . THIS POSTING IS ABSOLUTELY A PUBLIC SERVICE , there being no issues at all with the patient and considerate ladies employed at the circulation desk . read more

Great library! Impressive looking from the outside and just as awesome inside. Huge open library featuring 5 meeting rooms one which features a full size stage. Big children's dept which has an enclosed play area with some nice toys and a huge salt water fish tank. Staff is friendly, knowledgable and helpful. read more

The people behind the desk talk behind the customers back after they leave. A lady walked in stressed out with her two kids and had a problem with some $2 late fee they were trying to charge her and after she left and as I was cruising through the CD's, all I heard was the front desk people ripping on this lady for 15-20 min straight. They also put plastic security covers on their cd's which cause friction when played or ripped and heat up in your cd drive causing the drive to malfunction. I peeled a few of these off and they threw a fit and charged me $2 for each plastic cover. We pay for libraries with our hard earned money through taxes and to spend your free time in there only to have it wasted is petty. When I spend an hour flipping through music cd's and go home and am ready to enjoy them, do you really think I want to have to deal with problems occurring do to frivolous measures taking by the people of this library. Not all libraries around Nassau do this with their music, so just be warned. I really hope my CD Drive isn't damaged. read more

This library is huge! It has everything that should make it great , but things do not come together as they should. First of all, the video section. They are seperated into 2 categories: domestic and foreign. Thats all. The VHS, DVD, TV shows, movies, and every subject in between are all mixed in with eachother. An absolute alphabetical order of everything ever put into the video format . Also, the books themselves are hard to find. The labels for the aisles are hard to read, they are not all on the edges of the aisles. As I see it, you have to look through each aisle to see what is inside. In addition, the computer catalog and reference are out of the way entirely. You have to walk at least 15 feet out of anyone's way just to reach this area. These should be the brain of a library section, not an extermity! The checkout counters are a little too wide as soon as you walk in. Maybe it creates a claustrophobic affect? Whatever it is, it takes up too much valuable real estate in the library itself. Many libraries have a specialty. I have no idea what it is here, but the architects suck. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I will no longer come to this library. One of the staff members was extremely rude to my daughter when she went to the library to study! We do not have strong wifi and her school wifi was down so she needed a comforting place to study so I suggested the library. She went in and her mistake did not read the sign saying that she can only stay there for 30min. Her mistake. But your librarians did not have to catch an attitude and be EXTREMELY rude to her. She understood she made a mistake and said she was sorry and the librarian didn't care to say oh no worries or change her tone but just got a little louder in her words. Moral of the story the people behind the counter don't care and are so impolite. Learn to control your workers to be a little more kinder to those who don't have a comfortable place to study. read more

I never thought that I would use a library as much as I do. This library is huge. I've always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. I rent movies here. I use their online app Libby to borrow digital books. I use their free museum passes. I use their copiers and printers. I haven't taken advantage of any of their programs for myself. However, my son takes part in their Triple p (special needs mentoring program)which is amazing. and Teen Video Game club. If there is something they don't have, just ask, they will help you get it. If there is a program you would like the library to provide, suggest it. They are always open to suggestions. My son left his reading book for school home. I called the library to ask if they had a copy, they did and held it for me so he wouldn't miss his assignment. I like that they have snack machines and many areas where you can sit and relax. in the basement they display the work of local artists. Its one of my favorite places. read more

I have no idea why anyone would give this library less than 5 stars. The library is beautiful, the staff is friendly and helpful. They are always around for any problem with the computer, printer or fax or anything else that you would require help for. The library has great resource material - computers, books, concerts, movies, classes, printers and faxes. I see people who aren't even from Farmingdale, so not paying for library that they are using - writing negative reviews. Don't like the library you come to free of charge? Don't come. I do pay with my tax dollars, and just like the school tax which pays for schools that make a neighhood great, it's a bargain!!! read more

This library has to be one of my favorites, if not my favorite library to study at. The library is huge, has tons of places to sit, and a very large selection of books to choose from. When I first got here on a Sunday, I was doubting this place because it was oddly crowded. All of the patrons are very respectful, quiet, and friendly. The staff is super friendly and knowledgable, and one librarian even checked in on me to see if I needed help with anything else! If that isn't great customer service I don't know what is. The parking lot is large, and the walk from my car to the door was not bad at all. I will definitely be coming back to this library on a daily basis to study. read more

Some of the reviews here are way off base. This library is very large. It has an excellent children's area and lots of events and activities. I moved to the area 4 years ago and one of the first things I did was find the library. The staff here are very kind and courteous. I realize they may talk about annoying patrons but that doesn't mean it's a bad library. Who among us can say they've never complained about a difficult patron? I've found their dvd & blue ray selection to be excellent and well catalogued. The cd section could be better organized but it's really just a problem with crossover artists. There are a few large tables in the middle of the library where I see people studying every time I go by. There are also private rooms available. There are approx.15 computers available. This does not include the computers in the children's area. I think there are 5. There are also numerous small desks located throughout the library. They all have power outlets near or on them. They must work because I always see people using them. And library catalogue search stations are easily located in each section of the library. It's a nice place. Check it out and see for yourself. The new front is nice.... But it's fenced off. Only a handful of study tables and maybe ten computers. Tried an outlet, I didn't work. Kids section is 1/3 of the place but since I don't have kids- idc. Some bookshelves half or completely empty but tai chi on Tuesdays... read more

This library is excellent. You are giving a one star rating to a library because you overheard a staff member ranting about a annoying customer? That is an extremely generalized way of looking at things. Excellent selection of DVDs and children's material are located here, with a beautiful garden sitting area, as well as many "quiet" study areas. To me and my daughter this is one of the finest and spacious libraries in Nassau County. read more

I love my Library--I even volunteer to keep the shelves in order. But was so disappointed for my teen granddaughter who entered the Gingerbread House making contest and put in so much time and effort to show her interest and participation in her Library's program and was rewarded First Prize of a $5 gift card to Charlotte's on Main Street, Farmingdale and a kiddie coloring book.
