Cellphones, dial up, and I had to ask the librarians to be quiet so I could work. Then, they had the audacity to be snippy about me in earshot. They should be embarrassed, they are a disgrace to the profession. I won't be back. There are other far nicer libraries.

We've taken the AAPR drivers Ed classes once every 3 yrs. You learn a lot bc traffic laws change and you get a deduction on your car insurance bill. I go there mainly to get my hands on new best sellers in historical fiction. But they have a good selection in every genre. If they don't have what you request, they will find it for you. I love reading almost anything. Libraries have that special smell, is it the books or the feeling of education? I'll be ordering soon (love the online action) and then stopping in to say hi and look around. And just for the record, ANYONE who bans books or destroys them is a criminal.

It was taught by National Traffic Safety instructor, Thomas K, who was thorough and direct, and he encouraged class participation. Some students shared fascinating tales about their driving experiences. Today's class took place in the Dina A. Reilly Community Room, and it lasted six hours with a few 15 minute breaks and one half an hour lunch break. Thomas engaged the class with audio-visuals. For example, he put on a short film, featuring a family grieving about the death of their relative. He was a highway construction worker who was killed on the job by a driver who failed to obey a "slow down" sign. Course completion certificates will be mailed with an expected arrival date of six weeks. Point reductions and insurance discounts will be retroactive to today's date. Some students brewed beverages from the coffee and tea Keurig pods that were placed on the coffee table. Some of us helped ourselves to some Entenmann's milk chocolate chip cookies as well. Deer Park residency is not a pre-requisite for the class. Stop by the Registration Desk to register. The class costs $25, and one is held several times a year. The four star review is due to feedback from my classmates. Many found the class overcrowded and preferred that it be held in a larger room. Others found Thomas boring and think that he could have showed us more short films.

I know we had COVID , but .... really , it is time that this is over . It cannot be THAT much trouble for the staff to take care of this . Also , why no Friends of the Library ? Again , Deer Park sets themselves apart by refusing to have this very valuable resource . I believe that the head of the library does not want patrons to be involved in any decisions . The current selection of adult programming is a huge success. I especially appreciate that the library is offering different and engaging programs--such as cooking, crafts, and Bingo--those patrons genuinely enjoy, unlike some of the less popular offerings in the past. My 80-year-old mother attended a Bingo program last year and had a wonderful time, which was the first time she truly enjoyed a library activity. I also want to specifically recognize the exceptional staff: - A new Indian Librarian is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and always smiling. I have been impressed by her efforts to engage patrons, especially by demonstrating how to use digital resources like Libby for audiobooks and reading on tablets, as well as accessing databases for Civil Service exams and language learning. She efficiently assists multiple patrons at once, and her teaching style--like showing people how to print from their phones--empowers patrons to be self-sufficient. - Laurie at the Circulation Desk is also excellent. She is always helpful with services like faxing, copying, and handling other circulation-related questions. The hard work of the librarians and clerks is truly enhancing the library's reputation in the community. I hope these dedicated and hardworking staff members remain with the library. Thank you for your leadership in making these positive changes. I am proud of our library and hope it continues on this excellent trajectory.

I lived in Wyandanch for many years before my family and I moved out east (The Hamptons).I attended programs at the library when good, educational programs were being offered. A few years ago , a new Children's Librarian started coming in a few days a week . She was such a breath of fresh air .Friendly and cheerful with the children , offered programs that were fun and inclusive . Most of all, she was ever ready to discuss and offer suggestions to parents. She had so many resources on the display table and maintained a clen, friendly atmosphere within the children's section. She was very good at art too. Each month , she had a different display and would make posters for Black History and Women's History month . Her collage on the display board were extremely beautiful .She is a bundle of talent . Last year she made a very beautiful Women's History Month display collage with news papers and included pictures of famous women inspiring quotes, authors, politicians, inventors, performing artists and more. It was simply inspirational ! Every one that sees any of her creations always had a good comment. My family and I were at the library before we moved away last year and we were shocked at how disorganized the section has become . Worst still, the desk was equally untidy . The Librarian who is there now should be ashamed , so should her Supervisor. I have never expressed my opinion publicly before , this is the first time and it's all because I heard a new library director has been appointed. Scholastic knows this and we also take our profit in scholastic dollars. Setting up my fair today Scholastic BLOCKED us from offering the kids a discount. They literally put a block on our register. When I called they said there was a back door way of doing it that is absurd and to time consuming. It's disgusting the way they treat their clients and worse children. We will no longer be able to offer a discount and just an fyi no one had the consideration to tell us of this block. If I hadn't been giving a tutorial on the register to I never would have known until Monday. It's really a shame how wrong they are.

We got a Groupon for this place, which makes the price a lot more reasonable. They don't open until…read more1 pm on the weekends, and on Saturdays they don't even give guided tours. Instead, they give an "augmented reality" audio tour which is kind of hit or miss. The house was preserved for the historical significance of the Townsend family, one of which was a spy for George Washington. I didn't feel there was a ton of information on the family though. Pointing their phone at the different objects in a room turned on audio about them, but only a couple of rooms in the actual house were interactive. The rest didn't have signs, and one loan employee was around to answer questions at the end. The exhibit in the visitor center was nice though. I just don't think the AR experience was really up to replacing a person, both in amount of information and the uncanny valley, unnerving portraits. There is street parking and a nearby lot that are free on weekends. The gift shop is minimal. It was an okay spot to visit, but I would recommend coming on Sunday or whenever they offer actual tours to get a more thorough understanding of the house and the history of the people who lived here.

We went here on a winter weekend, and were fortunate to have the builsings to ourselves. The…read morehelpful staff took out modest admission fee and explained that they don't do tours on Saturdays but they do have tour devices using augmented reality. That means that when you walk through the buildings, you scan the cell phone device on important paintings and artifacts and they talk to you with further information about who or what they are. The small building that contains the entrance is packed with paintings, dioramas, documents and artifacts. Next you walk to the main house, built in the 1730's, and housing the Townsend family. At the time of the Revolutionary War, Samuel had to make room for a British colonel. In spite of the fact that he sympathised with the patriots, he maintained good relations with his "Guest." At the time of the war, the house had eight rooms. One of his sons was one of the leaders of the Culpepper Spy Ring, Placing the home on the National Registry of Historic Places. Each room was elegantly decorated, with the exception of the space for the enslaved housekeeper. In spite of the fact that we didn't get a formal tour, the staff member tagged along with us and kept up a spirited conversation - even giving us a bonus look at the Victorian wing which doubled the size of the structure.
