Call me a weirdo or old fashioned or something else (no expletives) but I just love a good library. Growing up on Long Island in Nassau County had me frequenting one (or two) specific locations, though I had popped into other book havens within the area and always found them comforting. Though I never really had the chance to enter a Suffolk County library until I moved to Ronkonkoma and learned that my home library is the media Mecca that is Sachem. If you're at all familiar with the Best of LI awards that are divvied out each year, then you'll know that Sachem Public Library has almost exclusively won this accolade over the past decade. I honestly never cared too much about this fact because Sachem seemed so far, but now my newish abode is only 5 minutes away from this superb book spot. Even before I ever entered Sachem Library's doors I was already impressed. That's because I feared it would take some time to get a library card with my change of address and needing an updated license. Nope! Sachem allows you to register for a library card on their website and then they'll send you this little key chain library card tag to your home. I was amazed by this, and already excitedly looking forward to my first trip there. This came over the summer when they were in full swing of their reading programs, both for kids and adults. Even though the event was halfway over, I was able to easily sign up and was given a little welcome bag and a chance to win some prizes for my reading. Unfortunately, I was a little too busy this past summer to read at a speedy clip (wedding planning will do that to you), but this just added to the enjoyment of Sachem. When actually exploring the interior and what Sachem has to offer, there are tons of books, movies, video games, and programs available. I'm also massively impressed with Suffolk County's digital borrowing program over Nassau as well as what's out there to be inter-loaned from other Suffolk libraries to Sachem. My first trip there was to actually pick up a couple of movies I had ordered and came in for pickup quite quickly. That trip, the summer sign up, and my experiences since have also all resulted in friendly staff and a desire to return again and again. Overall, maybe libraries are a little outdated or they feel like something you haven't visited in years, but I promise you that Sachem Public Library has so much to offer (I forgot to mention the beautiful serene garden across the parking lot that you can walk through and read in!). It's easy to see why Sachem wins awards each year and effortlessly puts other libraries to shame (like my hometown one, sorry not sorry). So consider this library weirdo somebody who will continue to love Sachem. read more

Very nice library. Private room can be booked for quiet remote working although this is timed and open to sachem residents only. Otherwise, there's ample open quiet study spaces. Not checked out their programs yet but will. Oh btw, there's a studio in this library. I think a printing studio. Huge! On a minus side, the doors could do with some WD, there are several doors to the side of the reading hall and each time, a door is opened, you hear a loud squeaky sound which can be so annoying. Otherwise, it's a great library, well thought through and planned out to suit all ages. Kudos to the Board of trustees and the librarians out there. read more

I used to love going to this library nice quiet and peaceful. Now , very noisy since cafe opened loud crowded hang out . Also , never have any good new books in stock anymore . I'm saddened over this as I miss my quiet time I used to enjoy there . And also , now that everyone is out in the ole. On computers , it's quite uncomfortable to be able to pick out books . Liked it soo much better the "old" way when there was a separate room to do your studying and computer work . I am a senior woman and I guess now this library has become a place more for children and the Gen Z folks . Unfortunately I will now have to find a new library close by to recapture the past library experience. read more

Best library!! Bright, cheerful, friendly with all the newest bells and whistles. They even have a small cafe with fireplace. I have taken classes there and they have a great variety of events each month with lots during the day as well as evening. I also use their online site to get kindle books and if I recommend a book they don't have they obtain it within a couple of days. Great community resource. They also have ongoing photography/art exhibits which change every month. read more

Great Support from Library Staff on any issue. Media area provides Current New Relese DVDs, Audio Books on tape, and many Computer Games. Reference area for tests is broad. Wireless Network spans the entire library, and Technology Center provies about 40 Computers usable to the public with high speed and your information is protetected. The library has grown over the past years to support the changing local population. Sachem has added another high school to the area. read more

This is the BEST library I've seen in this part of Suffolk County. Beautifully appointed, plenty of materials, nice coffee corner and snack shop. Went for the first time today to their Christmas Market. They have a teen room, art displays,nice restrooms on both floors, elevators, and a large selection of books for sale.( My local library won't accept donated books any more and I miss that.) Never got to fully explore the stacks or the entire downstairs, but what I saw looked great. Nice parking lot too, pleasant staff who gave us a free tote bag and post-it set with our book purchase. Didn't stay for the light show, but will try to stop in during the season to see it. read more

So I love libraries. And honestly, Sachem Library is really nice and has a great selection. My only complaint is about the library programs, mainly the adult programs. They book up a day after registration. I feel that the class availability and size isn't proportional to the amount of Library patrons. Other than that it's great. read more

I'm a student so I frequent the surrounding libraries you might say. This library is pretty cool, they recently renovated it. Although I can't understand why the study area in the back with all the tables in the main room has a dingy smell to it, like mildew. Found it distracting and had to move. Would definitely prefer Middle Country Library. read more

I love this place. Clean, spacious, and relaxing atmosphere with a helpful staff. I have taken computer classes, attended seminars, listened to live music, all of these free of course. My kids enjoy their enormous collection of DVds including TV series on DVD since we don't subscribe to cable, plus they have a large CD music selection. I am never without an audio book since I listen to them in the car on my commute. They have a lot of computers for use and you can print up to 10 pages for free. There is a lounge area with comfortable chairs in front of a "fireplace" where you can unwind while reading a magazine from the vast selection. There is a cafe that offers food and drinks. Honestly, this wonderful library is where I feel I get the biggest ROI from my tax dollars. read more

Sachem Public Library is one of the best places in the area. It has good programs, studyrooms, and media options. It is also a good hangout spot. The place has changed alot, I remember when they used to have vhs tapes here, but now the media section is gutted. I sadly don't come here as much as I used to, but it's a great place for all ages. read more
